First Screenshot Surfaces of Puzzle Quest 2

media

We're getting our first look at Puzzle Quest 2, thanks to a teaser from GamePro. The January issue of GamePro magazine is set to give more details on the sequel, and for now we've been given a high-res screenshot (above) that shows a battle sequence. It seems to carry a lot in common with the original Puzzle Quest, with the addition of a new glove icon. No platforms have been announced yet, but given the sharp screenshot it's a safe bet that it will be on PC, Xbox 360, and/or PlayStation 3. The previous installment had lower-res versions for PSP and DS as well.

D3 Publisher went on to make Puzzle Quest: Galactrix, which was well-liked but not quite as well-reviewed as its fantasy counterpart. We'll see if going back to the original formula does its job at recapturing fans who were put off by the hex-puzzle-based space puzzler.

Honestly, I don't see Perfect Dark being this month, I see it coming in January and/or February.

2 unrelated games, yet calling it a final fight collection? Don't quite get it, but I'll get it when it's released! XD

My sentiments exactly.

I love Magic Sword, but sheesh Capcom it's not like you don't have a shit ton of great Final Fight esque beatumups to include. Final Fight + Captain Commando. Final Fight + ... oh wait, come to think of it every Capcom beatumup from that era had a license. Alien V Predator, Dungeons and Dragons, Punisher, etc. etc.

I would pay 5$ a pop for anything on the CPS1 or 2 board with online play and achievements, though.

Ditto. It's just a hunch but they've been way too quiet about it recently to drop anytime soon. Maybe a Christmas week surprise but I'm not holding my breath.

For someone who never had Perfect Dark, but loved Goldeneye, do you think the game stands up now without the rose tinted glasses of nostalgia? I always felt like I missed out on something and can generally look past outdated graphics if the gameplay is remarkable.

I played Perfect Dark with using an Emulator about a year ago, it was still fun. I remember the shooting mechanics feeling good, my only major issue with it was having to use the N64 controller. It's not nearly as dated as Goldeneye, plus it's multiplayer has a lot of stuff that hasn't really been topped yet in a console game. There were so many options & cool weapons and shit. It also had that adversarial mode where player 1 would be Dark and the other players were the enemies, it was some cool stuff, hopefully that mode will be LIVE enabled.

Can't wait, I really hope they surprise us and release Perfect Dark before the end of the year.

If we get Doom II or Quake Arena. Microsoft could market December as Shooter December or something.

Yeah, it's still a pretty great game. Objectively better than Goldeneye in pretty much every way. Subjectively, it's a little harder to say. I think Goldeneye is more of a 'classic' than PD is, but the campaign and MP were absolutely top notch for their time. And the amount of options and variables in the MP still outclasses about 95% of games TODAY. I would be extremely hard-pressed to come up with a reason to NOT get PD once it hits XBLA.

Perfect Dark should be even better on the XBLA what with not having to deal with those damned framerate drops and having online for the multiplayer.

Final Fight 2 and 3 were SNES only, I assume there are a few problems with their reproduction on XBLA. Don't know how honestly since they were able to reproduce Castlevania: SOTN on XBLA without any fuss from Sony. Bet all those "Licensed by Nintendo" messages are a complete bitch for all these companies now :lol

That doesn't mean anything. All it means is that the product was tested and approved by Nintendo. Nintendo cannot stop Capcom from releasing them on any other console.

About bloody time. Bet it'll bomb like mad though. Thanks for keeping us in the loop Taito!

The Japanese blog doesn't specify a release for this week, so I assume it's something that Japan isn't getting at all.

This week's Deal Of The Week is Sonic 2 for 240MSP, and The Maw will be DOTW on the 28th for 400MSP.

Operation Anchorage will be 560MSP next week.

Operation Anchorage again?

Is that their first repeat?

Hmm, was Operation Anchorage released in Japan at the same time as the US? Might only be a Japan deal - they get a different deal if the one in the US wasn't released there.

Zatun Announces The Legend of Vraz , may be coming to the XBLA

8l741vmit8.jpg

Zatun, an independent videogame developer from India, has announced they are currently developing a 2D Platform game, The Legend of Vraz, for Windows. The Legend of Vraz features exciting gameplay of a suggested six to nine hours amidst fantasy worlds created with stunning hand painted 2D art and inhabited by mesmerizing characters.

Vraz the Prince is in love with Princess Avi and to marry her has to complete the five tasks set by Avi’s father while battling with the evil lovelorn Vizier and his shrewd accomplices in exotic worlds filled with dangerous obstacles. The player controls Vraz as he jumps runs, ropewalks and fires arrows. Vraz can either jump on enemies or use the arrows to neutralize them and has to collect keys to open locked doors and use levers to operate platforms or start/stop objects.

The gameplay is forgiving and game has no blood or violence. There is no concept of lives in the game and Vraz does not die; if his health is low he faints and restarts at the previous check point or starting point. For Health, the player can use mangoes, milk cans or go near the cow which recharges the health when the player is near it.

The legend of Vraz will be releasing soon and will be available for download on Windows. In addition, Electronic Theatre can reveal, thanks to an active participant on the Electronic Theatre Forum, that The Legend of Vraz is also expected to be made available on Xbox 360 via the Xbox LIVE Arcade service. Further information and screenshots from The Legend of Vraz can be found on the official website, http://www.zatungames.com, and Electronic Theatre will keep you updated with all the latest details on this and future projects from the upcoming developer Zatun.

Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter is still steaming...and the Xbox Live Arcade version isn't even released yet - but Croteam has officially announced Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter is coming to PCs and 360s next year.

The remake of the game's sequel will be unveiled at the 2010 World Expo in Shangai China which starts in May of 2010.

Croteam is touting a brand new "Co-Op Tournament mode" where "teams compete with one another." Unless there's some other trick to that pony, someone needs to give Croteam the memo, that's called team based versus - not co-op.

Matt Hazard: Blood Bath and Beyond is a flood of carnage that the classic 8-bit side-scroller era didn’t want gamers to see. Recreated today with next-gen 3D graphics, it’s nonstop run-and-gun action at its finest. Take a suspenseful ride in single player or co-op through a pirate hideout, an ancient Japanese castle, the Old West, Siberian ice mines, and even the moon

Matt Hazard is going back in time to protect what matters most - his own 8-bit self.

Matt Hazard, the star of renowned videogames like Conflict of the Deities and Haz-Matt Carts, has been a videogame icon for more than two decades. Matt lived on top of the videogame charts for many years until an abrupt retirement brought him down. Now fresh from an epic battle with Wallace Wellesley and the revitalization of his career, Matt has a chip on his shoulder and is ready to tear down General Neutronov and a back catalog of timeless and ageless videogame foes.

Dexter Dare

Dexter got his start in one of Matt Hazard’s games in the mid-90s (Matt Hazard Must Die!) as a character who saved Matt from certain doom. He was so popular that Marathon Software made him Matt’s permanent sidekick in the Matt and Dexter series of platforming shooters.

Although initially grateful for the opportunity to share the spotlight with a gaming legend like Matt, Dexter soon began to harbor a great deal of resentment toward his mentor. He also developed a crush on Matt’s then-girlfriend, Kitty Abundanza, and resented Matt all the more for being so successful with the ladies.

All of this led a to a Mana abuse problem that ended the partnership and put his career on the rocks. He disappeared from the gaming scene and retired to his palatial virtual estate, where he assuaged his loneliness by building an army of female robots, all of whom were modeled to look like Kitty. (Despite his many difficulties, Dexter was always quite good with money.)

Dexter spent years blaming Matt for all of his personal problems and knowing deep inside that he, Dexter, could surpass Matt as the best action hero in games if given the chance. So, when Wally Wellesley offered him a starring role in a next-gen action title in exchange for destroying Matt, he jumped at the opportunity to exact revenge and become the hero he always wanted to be.

After Matt spares Dexter’s life—in spite of the fact that Dexter tried to kill Matt—Dexter’s life turned around. He kicked the Mana habit and resumed his friendship with Matt. Although his bitterness at being a sidekick for the rest of his life still comes out from time to time, Dexter is always ready to do some serious ass-kicking when the need arises.

General Neutronov, one of Matt’s nemeses has reactivated all of Hazard’s greatest enemies from classics like Matt’s original adventure, The Adventures of Matt in Hazard Land and Chest of the Pirate Queen in an attempt to destroy Matt’s former self in the past and end his present. Matt has no time for a leisurely stroll down memory lane in Blood Bath and Beyond as he chases Neutronov through the games of the past in order to save his future.

Matt Hazard: Blood Bath and Beyond is a flood of carnage that the classic 8-bit side-scroller era didn’t want gamers to see. Recreated today with next-gen 3D graphics, it’s nonstop run-and-gun action at its finest. Take a suspenseful ride in single player or co-op through a pirate hideout, an ancient Japanese castle, the Old West, Siberian ice mines, and even the moon and relive some of the most classic and violent moments in Matt Hazard’s videogame history.

Matt Hazard: Blood Bath and Beyond will be available at 1200 Microsoft points ($15.00) on XBLA, and a standard price of $14.99 on PSN. and be released Jan. 6/Jan, 7 2010

Cheers. Major Nelson is confirming that now.

Ah well, I just won South Park and Encleverment Experiment (not as bad as I was expecting, actually, game has a sense of humour) so I'm good for the week.

More Kingdoms for your Keflings

NinjaBee announces first DLC for A Kingdom for Keflings

http://www.gamezone.com/news/12_01_09_03_19PM.htm

Worsening conditions due to overpopulation in Kefling Kingdoms has prompted drastic action by independent video games developer NinjaBee, announcing today it would act quickly and decisively to resolve the problem by providing four new kingdoms as downloadable content for its popular Xbox LIVE® Arcade title, A Kingdom for Keflings.

NinjaBee has also set a date, promising the new Kingdoms would be available for Keflings and avatars alike on Dec. 9, 2009.

“To be honest, it’s about time!” said one giant avatar who wished to remain anonymous. “It’s gotten to the point where you can’t even turn around without kicking one of those little guys. It’s getting out of hand, I mean, they’re like rabbits!”

The new DLC is the first to be released for the avatar-based XBLA title and will be released separately as Kingdom Pack 1 and Kingdom Pack 2, each containing two new playable kingdoms.

Kingdom Pack 1

This Kingdom Pack brings a fresh perspective to the original game with brand new Kingdom layouts. The Orchard Kingdom puts some new and interesting twists on the Classic Kingdom, and Kingdom Crossroads gives a new pace to your game. Luckily, the Keflings are still just as nice in both Kingdoms.

Kingdom Pack 2

The new layouts in this Kingdom Pack are not for the faint Giant at heart. The mysterious Relic Kingdom will force you to explore every inch of the map to find your way around, and the challenging Central Kingdom is definitely meant for the more advanced player. Previous Kefling management experience is a plus.

A recent update to A Kingdom for Keflings made the new DLC possible adding a new menu where players choose the map they wish to play. The update also made Keflings stronger, allowing transporters to carry three resources instead of one, and protected online games from griefers, making hosts and their friends the only players who can destroy buildings.

The Scourge Project Hits PC Next Month, Xbox Live Next Year

http://www.co-optimus.com/article/3..._Hits_PC_Next_Month__Xbox_Live_Next_Year.html

Independent developer Tragnarion Studios has announced their brand new Unreal Engine 3 powered game The Scourge Project. Billed as a 3rd person squad shooter set in a fictional futuristic world, players can team up for four player co-op action through a five hour campaign.

The game is set to launch on Steam in a few weeks, and then on Xbox Live Arcade next March. While a five hour campaign sounds short, it appears the game will actually be episodic, with expansions promised in the "Scourge Saga."

The screenshots look really pretty, as the team at Tragnarion seems to have set the bar high in terms of quality for a downloadable title. Lets hope it plays as good as it looks.

Of course you should! In fact, you should already have owned it by now.

I love this deal of the week. I finally got the last achievement on it (win ten zones online) after years of having nobody online to play against. Everyone was rubbish at the special stages, too, I didn't lose one in about 15 games!

If you missed out on a lot of great Genesis games, you might as well get Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection

Thanks but nah, I'm only interested in Sonic. I only ever played the series (on Genesis) at a friend's house and even then, just briefly. So, is the game worth 240pts or no?

EDIT: And how long is the game?

Its worth 240 points.. id say its an hour long if you're very great at it, and maybe 3 or 4 if you're a decent skilled first timer.

You really should buy the UGC though, its 20 bucks nowadays and has all the sonics as well as super gems like ristar.

Really enjoyed the demo of Call of Duty Classic. I have never played it before. Looks a lot better than what I was thinking going in. Great music also. Watched the credits also and damn that was cool.
BUT I CAN'T BUY IT. It's just too damn dark on my TV. I can't find a brightness option in the game so I put my brightness up all the way on my TV but it didn't help much at all.
=(
