Rating: Everyone

Content descriptors: Alcohol Reference

Rating summary:

This is a puzzle game in which players switch two letters at a time to form words to solve a word puzzle. Some modes of play prompt players by providing hints to guess the correct word (e.g., "aisle - Like 'passage'" and "anguish- Like 'hurting.'" Among the thousands of available words, a handful may contain references to alcohol (e.g., "beer – Like 'brew'" and "alcohol – Like 'spirits'").

Hey Shard, is there actually a chance that Toy Soldiers will hit in January? Is it up on partnernet?

How about Things on Wheels or Greed Corp?

There's more NGBC pics at Cyberfanatix.

I'm really impressed with how NGBC looks; the filtering looks near-'94 Rebout quality, the new backgrounds look nice, and 16:9 is always welcome.

But it's the online play that make or break the game, and SNK's track record has been horrible in this area.

No, you're not. But over time SNK will drop more gems on XBLA. I just hope one day they can get something going for the Hyper Neo Geo 64. I'd pay whatever to play both SS64 games and Buriki One. I just have the strangest feeling that KOF XI is next up.

Next up is 2002 UM. I'd love to see Tenka given the NGBC treatment.

Toy Soldiers: Possible but unlikely.

Things on Wheels: Honestly, it should already be out, but I guess I am not surprised that such a troubled project is still having difficulty getting released.

Greed Corp: A very good chance for it to come out in January.

I'm happy that SNK is releasing these fighters but what about other type of games? Games like:

Magician Lord
Last Resort
Eightman
Sengoku 2
Ninja Combat
Blue's Journey
Ghost Pilots
Sky Adventure
Top Hunter
Blazing Star
Mutation Nation
Rage of the Dragons (Yes I know this one if a fighter)
Aero Fighters 2
Aero Fighters 3
Baseball Stars

I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to see some or all of these games on XBLA.

They're releasing a "SNK Arcade Classics Zero". Maybe some will be there.

Sweet, thank you!

Joyride: When the game comes out, you will know about it beforehand, something that hyped isn't going to be just dropped out beforehand.

Nice achievement there. More than 60% of the purchase price of Chime will be donated to charities around the world, which is a very good idea from a digital download game hope it does well.

I just found Worms 2: Armageddon for 400 MS Points a couple of nights ago, great price but I've only got 200 points left. :/ Anyone know of any freebie deals online?

It's time for another big announcement: NinjaBee is working on another game for Xbox Live Arcade with playable avatars!

The Project
We're going to make the official announcement with more details about the game at the end of the month, but every week in January we're going to give you a look at what we're working on.

Just check back each Tuesday and you can get a first look at concept art of what we've got in production. (Note: This game is NOT Ancients of Ooga, another new game we're bringing to Live Arcade in 2010.)

Can you figure out what this game is all about?

Here's to hoping for an RPG with avatars. That's what I'm getting from the concept art, and I like it.

That is the vibes I am getting from it too, they do sorta have the experience for it with the avatars abilities to cast magic from the Band of Bugs dlc. I kinda want a zelda like adventure game but if its a rpg I can live with that too.

I never thought of that before but it would be rather cool if done right, easily enough variations to make city and town npc's with some customs or friends avatars as the main characters (pre set or random chosen on new game so they don't change every time you play)

CES 2010: Microsoft Confirms "Game Room" Virtual Arcade

http://xboxlive.ign.com/articles/105/1058712p1.html

January 6, 2010 - A leaked internal video interview has spoiled at least one of Microsoft's surprise announcements at this year's CES show in Las Vegas, Nevada. The company plans to introduce "Game Room," a virtual arcade featuring retro titles for the Xbox 360

Microsoft's president of Entertainment and Devices Division Robbie Bach is seen discussing the to-be-announced plan as a way of bringing classic arcade titles, such as Centipede, to a new audience.

"Game room in some ways is sort of a retro approach," Bach said. "There's a generation of people who grew up with a set of games like Centipede. They look almost like casual, fun games today. At the time, they were high-end, edgy games. Game Room is the idea of bringing that back to the market, and bringing that to a very broad audience.

"What we're going to find is that when people can get 30 or more of these types of games, they're going to love it for the experience, and not just casual players, even people who would call themselves "hardcore gamers" are going to say, "oh wow, this is fun," he added.

Microsoft's CES conference starts at 6:30 PST tonight. We'll update this post with further details as they are announced.

Update During Microsoft's CES keynote presentation, a few new details were revealed about "Game Room."

The arcade will launch this coming Spring for Xbox 360 and PC with 30 original arcade and console classics, including "Centipede," "Asteroids Deluxe," and "Super Cobra." Players will be able to invite friends to your own custom arcade to challenge each other. The retro games will appear in their original cabinets and can be placed anywhere in your arcade.

New games will be released every week, with over 1000 titles being available over the next three years. Titles will be priced between 240-400 points for download, while 40 points nets players a single play.

Purchasing a game allows players to play it both on either Xbox 360 or PC.

"Game Room" will support Avatars, Voice Chat, 1080p, online multiplayer (Gold membership required), and cross-platform leader boards and achievements.

Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgment Blazing Online Later This Month

Konami’s Vandal Hearts prequel is almost done. In fact, Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgment is on track for a January release.

January 20 for Xbox 360 owners, to be more specific. The release date was revealed today on Xbox Japan’s product page. Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgment is a multiplatform PS3 / Xbox 360 game so the PlayStation 3 version will be ready on Thursday, January 21, perhaps?

CES 2010 Hands On: Toy Soldiers offers World War I action with little plastic men

http://www.gamertell.com/gaming/com...s-world-war-i-action-with-little-plastic-men/

I know I was not the only kid who took those plastic army men (sold in bulk at most dollar stores) and found various ways to destroy them.

Developer Signal Studios has your hookup with Toy Soldiers, a real-time strategy game featuring little plastic men on the big stage of World War I. This title is coming exclusively to the Xbox Live Arcade in Spring 2010.

It features both authentic WWI units such as biplanes and also fun concepts such as the Tsar Tank, a gigantic two-wheeled vehicle that existed in blueprints but was deemed too impractical to actually be built.

Video game designers aren’t bound the actual laws of physics, so now the Tsar Tank will finally get its chance to determine the fate of battles in WWI.

I’m a huge RTS buff and I am definitely pumped for this effort. The showroom demo was easy enough to pick up and play but looked to have some greater strategic depth. That’s a winning combo in the RTS world.

You can control things from the perspective of the battle at large, or pick individual units to control. The biplane I boarded even came with a “bomb’s eye” view of the carnage. If WWI participants had the advantage of the Tsar Tank and Bomb’s Eye View, the conflict would have probably lasted all of six minutes.

I expect I’ll spend a lot more than that with this game when it hits XBLA. A caveat, though. If this game doesn’t feature a Martika-laden soundtrack, there better at least be an Xbox achievement called “They All Fall Down.”

lol vandal hearts is 1200 points lol

I'm just glad it's not 1600. The game has multiple endings, and a decent looking graphics engine for an arcade release. It at least looks about as good as Spectral Force / The various other Strategy RPGs that have been released as full retail in Japan, so 1200 seems comparatively cheap.

Just glad it finally has a date ^_^ Before Tatsunoko VS Cap, and well after Darksiders and Bayonetta have lost the "BRAND NEW!" shine.

CES 2010: Final Fight: Double Impact Hands-On

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/105/1059621p1.html

Retroheads are the target audience for Capcom's upcoming Final Fight: Double Impact for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network, a double-header download that includes ports of two arcade classics: Final Fight and Magic Sword. At CES today, Capcom offered first hands-on with both games, not only to test the fidelity of the ports, but also to check out the series of zooms and filters that affect the general look for both games.

Final Fight is Capcom's 1989 hallmark side-scrolling beat-'em-up, released in the wake of the blockbuster Double Dragon, but not without casting a shadow of its own. Final Fight's heroes – beefy Haggar, Cody, and Guy – must clean up the streets of Metro City, recently infested by gangs that shop for clothes at Dee Snyder's closet. Across six stages, two players (what, not three?) dish up punches, kicks, slams, and slaps.

Haggar smash!

Magic Sword was recently reintroduced to American audiences in the Capcom Classic Collections. Previously, it was available on the SNES, but like the SNES port of Final Fight, only as a single-player game. This new port contains the full arcade original, where you rush through hundreds of monsters as the Brave One, a legendary warrior. As you collect keys, you open prisons to free allies, such as a giant berserker, wizard, and ninja. Each ally has a different weapon and attack pattern, making them ideal for different situations. The ninja, for example, throws a shuriken at a 30-degree angle, so you can attack tall monsters as well as those on the ledge above you. Magic Sword has fifty stages, although they are short.

Both games include dozens of in-game achievements that unlock bonus material, such as original game art and classic footage. But Capcom also offers a host of special filters and zooms for the ports. You can opt for a classic view that is appropriately pixelated, a faux arcade monitor filter that really looks like the real deal (and is cool when paired with the arcade bezel border), or use HD-primed smooth and crisp views that "smooth" out the visuals. Let's be frank – those last two filters are unattractive. They actually make the games look weird. After testing them out, I quickly changed back to arcade monitor and classic view. Call me a purist. Or old.

Magic Sword is a good companion piece for Final Fight.

Each title in Final Fight: Double Impact handled exactly like I remembered, and it was cool to rediscover a fondness for Magic Sword, a game I have not played in a long time. Both games offer online multiplayer, handled through a special signal filter that Capcom says will guarantee optimal connections and zero lag. Lag would really let the air out of Final Fight.

Capcom has not confirmed the download price, but Final Fight: Double Impact is currently slated for an early April release.

CES 2010: Mega Man 10 Hands-On

http://xboxlive.ign.com/articles/105/1059522p1.html

January 8, 2010 - Did Mega Man 9 have you questioning your gaming prowess? At CES this morning, Capcom showed off a playable Mega Man 10 with a new feature that should help: easy mode. The brand-new easy mode, a first for the series, offers a Mega Man-lite experience. You can still play though the entire game and see all of the sights, but some of the trickier platforming and boss battling has been blunted so you are not constantly staring at an exploding Mega Man. For example, easy mode will strategically place floating platforms on top of spike pits.

I tried out a new baseball-themed stage at Capcom's suite, checking it out both in normal mode and easy mode. Capcom did not allow me to play to the end of the stage and fight the master robot for the area (I can't even tell you its name), but it was interesting to note the differences between difficulty settings. There is an intermediary boss that lingers at the top of a room, pummeling you with massive fists. In normal mode, there are two fists you must avoid as they smash to the ground and then ride up to blast the boss in the face. The robot also bounces a deadly soccer ball around the chamber to keep you on your toes. The boss loses one fist and the soccer ball in easy mode.

Easy mode strips out that pesky soccer ball.

Not only does easy mode help out with platforming by covering spikes, but it also affects enemy placement and firing patterns. In one situation, you must time dropping off a ladder to avoid a robot crawling below. That robot is gone in easy mode. Another enemy throws balls at you in a wave pattern. In easy mode, the wave is wider, giving you more space to find sanctuary. Easy mode will surely offend the purists, but for a player that just loves the general spirit of Mega Man and wants to see all of the themed robot masters, having a little crutch is a lifesaver.

Capcom was also quick this morning to strike down the rumor of a new co-op mode in Mega Man 10. Mega and Proto will not be sharing the screen any time soon. According to Capcom, Mega Man 10 is slated to drop in March on all three download services. Expect a $10 price tag.
