I haven't seen any problems with Metal Slug's framerate, nor have I heard/seen anyone else complain about it. Smoke and explosions looked exactly the same as they have in older versions, Marco's "Victoly!" laugh looked just as stupid-smooth as it always has...

There might be some "Huge explosion occurs, a little bit of slowdown at a non-interactive time!" but I think, by now, that's on purpose, for dramatic effect.

There's a new Game Room pack out today, too. No talk over it, eh?

I find the permanent price drop games to be... kinda meh. 3 on 3 seems kinda new for such a drop, and Cloning Clyde is SOOO old... Braid is cool though. Hope SNKP gets to drop the price on a few of their older titles before 2002 UM and NGBC come out, as I figure that's one of the reasons Clyde has dropped, to help promote Ancients of Ooga.

Suprised there is no list of Aqua's avatar items yet.

Game Room is uninteresting because of the era it is focused on.

There's a reason there isn't much chatter about Atari and Colecovision nostalgia in general. There's also a reason that the video game industry crashed out and pretty much wiped all this shit to novelty-status. People were bored of everything the industry had to offer even when there wasn't anything better to compare it against. Trying to resurrect it now - when there actually is - and expecting anyone to be excited is ridiculous.

Even ignoring the whole MAME/$3 argument: if they were slamming out 90's arcade games, people would be geeked. I'm sure there are those that would point to their amazing Firebird score-run in protest, but the majority of people seem to consistently agree - pre-NES video games are only interesting from a historical perspective.

Well, yes, we can consider Game Room out of the public eye, potentially because of it's long distance between releases, but that doesn't mean people "in the know", like those here on Gaf, have to forget it, right?

I really think part of that stupid "long distance between releases" was possibly because gamepack 2 was mistakedly released earlier than expected. I remember waking up to more games than they had mentioned being released on day one. With nothing else prepared, they just went with the "Urr... yeah, enjoy all those games!" stance, and then had to work up to get the next pack released.

And even on the FIRST new pack release date, they mysteriously didn't make it, only to then re-appear a week or so later.

Now we're on full sail, it seems, but there's been too much bungling.

I'd think GR could easily be saved with a good sale, and some better later packs (I'd assume what we'll see for the next 3 or 4 weeks is probably already planned out, going by the leaked game pack images from the windows live version). Would also be great if they included some GR hype in the summer of arcade promotion somehow. "Buy all S.O.A games, get a token for 2 gameroom games of your choice for free!" or something.

I'd be for a price drop on the atari-era stuff too. When you're selling me Atari games for the same price as an Indie game like Mamotte (Protect Me) Knight, something's wrong!

(Mamotte >>>> Geo-wars!) -ahem-

----

Metal Slug XX: bought it, really like it. I dunno, when I played 6 on PS2, I constantly felt like something was cheap about it. It might be because I played through them all in a marathon session that day... I felt like it lacked identity and even though I loved the new character stuff, something felt off.

Here, with 7, save for the pre-rendered backgrounds (which aren't all that bad, really)... It all feels right. I'm enjoying the music, I love seeing the KoF guys having multiple "stage clear" poses, special melee attacks are fun (Galactica Phantom and Gattling Punches rule), the stages feel like they have a nice rhythm (up to stage 3 so far)... it's actually clicking with me very well.

The "unlock full game" option from the trial changed to "downloadable content" in the full game, so I hope this means we'll see Leona, sooner rather than later ^_^ Heck, I'd love to see more content for the game, but that might be expecting too much.

Combat school is pretty fun too; Cynthia is nicely animated (to that "so smooth it's creepy!" level, which is kinda fitting for MS), and though the missions are pretty much just like bonus modes in fighters, I rather appreciate it here. It's one of those things that helps make this release feel like a fleshed out console release, rather than just a straight, no-frills, direct-from-arcade deal.

And for anyone wondering after 98UM, yes, the game is actually in English! :lol

I'm just happy to finally get MS "7" on a TV with co-op, though. I know I woulda paid at least this much for a PS2 version, so I'm happy all the way.

Game Room is pretty much dead, a failed experiment.

Your face is a dead, failed experiment.

Game Room is awesome again now that they've started releasing packs more frequently. This week's highlight is Time Pilot, but they also released the original Asteroids, Demons to Diamonds, Grand Prix, Space Duel, Shark! Shark! and Stampede. I'm in love with it again, but hope they get out of the Intellivision/2600 phase soon.

kidding about the face thing. just try game room again!

Is a game that's been on XBLA for years already and that version includes an improved version and achievements (If you care for them)

They are never getting out of the early stage retro gaming and to think that they are going beyond Genesis is wishfull thinking.

He's got a point. They're slinging better games at better prices on the Indie channel.

Another worry I have about Game Room is that fairly soon... maybe even with this game pack, most of the hardcore achievement guys who thusfar have bought every single game just to go for 1000 will stop buying games. I don't think that matters for the quality games, but all of the current games have inflated sales from this segment.

You might say "But how many people are like that? 5000? 10000?" and that's true, but I don't suspect many of the lower tier Game Room games are intended to sell more than 10,000, so it's kinda a big deal.

Is anyone else stoked for Snoopy Flying Ace?! It looks like the closest we'll ever get to a sequel for Crimson Skies. I'm hoping it comes out next week and that it's 800 points. But I'm fully prepared to drop 1200 on it.

It's already been confirmed for June 2nd at 800 I believe.

the Konami games in Game Room look the most interesting....Can't wait for them to totally go into late 80's. I want to buy something, but I can't do it when the games are this damn simple.
I wonder if Konami would put out a fighting game on the service....

Day one. I played it at PAX East and it was SO good. I miss my flight combat games.

Arcade is a big disappointment to me. The PixelJunk games on PSN are memorable by comparison. Things like Aqua, I feel like I've played that several times already in South Park and that WW1 game. I forgot what it was called now but I paid 1200 when it was released and played it for a few days

You need to play more xbl games. Every single one has a demo, so there's no excuse, and that was a pathetic list you just gave.

are you seriously offhandedly dismissing the entire ginormous game collection of XBLA in one swoop like that

seriously

the hilarious thing is that pixeljunk racers was pretty poorly received and while pjm is a solid tower defense game, so's defense grid, so really he's using the two PJ games that don't have direct analogs to dismiss all of arcade.

I'll take Toy Soldiers over PJM any day of the week. Not to mention the fact that it actually added something to the tower defence genre.

Pixeljunk Monsters is the only really good Pixeljunk game, and both Defense Grid and Toy Soldiers are at least as good if not better.

Eden!!!

But yeah, XBLA is absolutely amazing in its breadth of games. I think I own right around 30 and love them to death. I have a bunch on PSN as well (around 10 or 11), but overall, XBLA wins. Sadly, Arcade games are a bit too expensive lately. Oh well.

First games I bought for 360 were arcade games.

Shadow Complex -Easily the best game on XBLA
Trails HD
Portal Still alive
Defense Grid
Castle Crashers
Geometry Wars 2

ToW and Crazy Mouse are just not memorable. What a horrible platform XBLA is.

I realize your tongue is firmly in your cheek... Still I think ToW gets a bad rap, I loved the game. I take back what I said about it beating out Re-volt, it's too short but otherwise I really had fun with it.

Do we actually know what's coming out next week at all? I can't remember. I'd imagine World Of Keflings is super close though since they released a ton of Avatar goods under its name yesterday.

I was talking with a friend in a party earlier and he said that, if you have the MSXX demo and you launch Modern Warfare 2, at MW2's title screen go back to MSXX and you'll get the whole game. Is this real? Cause wow.

Actually, you need to put Halo:ODST and MW2 into the drive at the SAME time, with the silver sides facing eachother. Launching MSXX then allows you to play as a naked Fio.

Aqua is really fucking good and a bargain at 800 points. Glad I dipped in to this thread to see what it actually was (had no clue at all).

Playing the trial, it seems alright. Definitely not something I'm buying right now though, got plenty of games to play right now.

Though the avatar item they tease you with in the trial is pretty spiffy.

Even if it is real (which I highly doubt), if you use glitches like that to unlock content you haven't paid for, you will get permanently banned from Xbox Live.

I heard it also unlocks Sparkster for Firefight

Yeah... Aqua didn't get my attention until a day or two before it hit and I'm really diggin' it so far.

You sure he wasn't telling you how to fight Sheng Long in Street Fighter 2?

EDIT : Any chance of Neo Geo Battle Coliseum this week? Those in the know?
