Namco Bandai announced today that a new versio of the super-popular (and super fun) Pac-Man Championship Edition would be released to both the Playstation Network and Xbox Live Arcade under the moniker Pac-Man Championship Edition DX.

Promising new modes, mazes, and other enhancements, the game is apparently scheduled for a Fall release on both systems. Full PR below:

LOS ANGELES, Calif., (June 15, 2010) - Leading video game publisher and developer NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. announced today PAC-MAN Championship Edition™ DX for Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system's PlayStation®Network. The follow-up to the 2007 award winning title, the game bolsters the beloved arcade formula by offering even more sophisticated mazes, modes, and enhancements. It'll be a celebration for fanatics and a new generation of players alike when PAC-MAN Championship Edition DX is available this fall.

PAC-MAN Championship Edition DX continues to uphold NAMCO BANDAI's tradition of enhancing a classic franchise for today's gamer. Building upon PAC-MAN Championship Edition's original six courses, the new game features more than 100 varied and mind-boggling mazes to navigate. Several new modes will also be available to test a player's pellet-munching aptitude. In Time Attack Mode, players will vie for the quickest clear time. Fulfill a series of objectives in Mission Mode or compete to devour the most number of ghosts gobbled in Ghost Mode.

With brand new visual variations and music, plus all the great features found in the first PAC-MAN Championship Edition including mazes that dynamically change shape during gameplay, PAC-MAN Championship Edition DX is a game worthy of the rotund hero's 30th birthday.

OMG WHAT THE HELL. HOW DID I MISS THIS????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I may take a day off work for this.

Also, I'm REALLY hoping the new 4-player Pac-Man Battle Royale goes somewhere besides just the arcades. Sounds like a mix between CE and Pac-Man VS. But chances are next to no one in North America will be able to play it as an arcade game. Bring to digital platforms, Namco!!

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/monkey-island-2-remake-detailed

The upcoming special edition of Monkey Island 2 will finally allow players to control hero Guybrush with the analogue stick.

Last summer's Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition mapped points to A and clicks to B, but still went on to earn 9/10 on Eurogamer.

IGN, spotting the difference, also noted that alongside the three-tiered hint system is an L1-mapped helper that highlights objects you can interact with. R2, meanwhile, produces a radial menu of the actions that best suit an object rather than the whole lot.

What's more, Monkey Island 2: Special Edition can overlay new voice-overs on the original game in Classic Mode. And there's the option to turn them off altogether if you so wish.

Commentary from developers Tim Schafer, Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman will be accessible (prompted) at certain points throughout the adventure, and there are various concept art unlocks that await your eye.

Monkey Island 2: Special Edition will be released 7th July on Mac, PC, PSN and XBLA. iPhone and iPad conversions are expected later this summer.

Hydrophobia's 'Challenge Rooms' test powers slated for its sequel

http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/23/hydrophobias-challenge-rooms-test-powers-slated-for-its-seque/

Our preview of Hydrophobia from E3 2010 covered what we saw in the first installment of the planned trilogy; however, if you want an idea of what to expect in the next installment, we got a better idea by checking out the game's "Challenge Rooms," which unlock only after the player finishes the main campaign. What's tucked after the break may be considered spoiler-ish, so click on through if you're willing to take the plunge.
Hydrophobia

The Challenge Rooms introduce players to nanotech powers, allowing them to manipulate the water flooding the ship/city. Once again, according to a representative for developer Dark Energy Digital, these powers are not part of the first game, but are certain to be in the sequel, which is already in development and should be done in about a year.

If you ever played Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy, you've got a pretty good primer on how Hydrophobia's powers will work. The main difference being that instead of the protagonist's mind manipulating objects, she manipulates the water. She'll push boxes around with the water, lifting them up in the air to help with obstacles or tossing them across the room at enemies. One of the cooler things we saw is when she lifts the water around an enemy, causing them to drown in a six-foot column of H2O they can't swim out of.

It's a shame that these powers won't be in the first Hydrophobia, but it's nice to see that players will have them in the Challenge Rooms and can look forward to using them in the sequel. It's an interesting test for the developer -- for those who become fans of the Challenge Rooms, they'll have higher expectations for the sequel if they've been playing with the powers for a year. Of course, the developer will get pretty good feedback of which powers the players think work well and which ones need tweaking for the in-development sequel.

I'd pick up Risk but Puzzle Quest 2 is out next week. If Risk shows up on the radar with activity with the next live activity thread, I may pick it up at that time.

Just thinking about the amount of points I will need over the next month or two on not only XBLA titles, but Live in general is making cringe a bit. A lot of good stuff in the pipeline from Puzzle Quest 2, MI2, Summer of Arcade, the Dead Rising 2 prequel and I believe Hydrophobia sometime plus whatever else they throw in there, errr.

Man, the only thing stopping me from getting risk is that nobody on my friendslist is getting it. I just don't want to be playing it with randoms given everyone will be in party-chat.

So any reason in Canada I have to spend 1500 points to buy something thats 1200?

Moronic system. Haven't bought anything on XBLA because of it.

This is an issue with all three services; on XBLA you have to buy point bundles, on WiiWare you have to buy point bundles, on PSN you can pay exact change but there's the minimum wallet requirement thing.

It is not the best system, but you would be likely to spend those points at some time in the future. I assume the reason for forcing you to pay a minimum amount is that there is a credit card charge associated with each transaction. I do wonder how services like Itunes handle it with stuff that costs only 99 cents. I am curious to know if anybody has an idea.
