I just tried Outpost Kaloki. I had already played it on the pc, so it's gameplay was no surprise to me (seems pretty cool), but I was interested in how the interface was handled on the xbox. The controls are pretty intuitive, but all the GUI components were so small I couldn't see them! Fortunately you can increase the size of them in the options menu. So if you're playing this demo on a non HD tv and you can't see anything, make sure to go to the options and turn the size up to max.

Mutant Storm seems pretty great. It's like Geometry Wars and Robotron, although I from what I've played of the Geometry Wars and Mutant Storm demos, it seems like Geometry Wars is a bit more abstract, just shoot for score style game and Mutant Storm is a bit more like Robotron in the sense that it has levels and bosses. I might get both :)

Is there any cost savings difference between buying games on Xbox Live using points via credit card or buying them using a pre-paid card bought at a store?

I have the 79th ranked score on Geometry Wars. I guess that's not bad for about 30 minutes of playing last night. It's quite an addictive little game.

I got top 15 my first game... but I cheated a bit since I've been playing for a week now. :lol

Where's the Robotron and Smash TV?

This absolutely rules. I've purchased every Arcade game already except for the two card games. :D Gauntlet is a little wonky, seems to move a bit faster than I remember. 1 game of Zuma and I got 13th place (love that game). I'm saving the big dog, Geometry Wars, for later. Go go XBLA!!

XBLA games seem to be having staggered releases, a few a day.

Geometry Wars is awesome, but it gets very hard after 100,000 points. How do multipliers work?

Are they screwing over Canadians? To buy 500 points online its $5 American right? Why is it $7.75 Canadian? With the exchange right now it should only be $6 Canadian comparitively.

Yusaku... I don't have the exact figures, but these should be pretty close.

x2 - 1,000
x3 - 3,700
x4 - 11,500
x5 - 48,000
x6 - 150,00
x7 - 242,000

I don't know what's beyond that. Also, your multiplier resets every time you die.

LakeEarth... 400 points = $5

are there demos of these games, i really do not wanna buy games i have never heard of?
Its a rule. All Xbox Arcade games must have a demo.

And just so Canadians don't have to figure it out for themselves, 400 point games cost $6.20 if you buy points off of your 360.

What is the status of SmashTV? :D

Playing Guantlet made me realize we've never truly had an arcade perfect version of the game before! I want arcade perfect SmashTV. :)

Mutant Storm Reloaded is THE SHIT! I'm liking it even more than Geometry Wars. There's more to it. Same basic premise (left stick move, right stick fire) but more weapons, more enemies, a more complex scoring system and each level is mapped differently where Geo Wars is the same static square field. Highly recommended!

I see that GAF's Jesiatha is near the top of the leaderboard. #6, is it? I crawled up to #17 with my second game. Back to it now..

edit: 3rd game, 10th place.

That's great news! any idea how to get the demo before downloading the actual game?

Right when you start browsing through the games, you can download demos for all of them. It's very obvious, you'll see it right when you log in.

Exactly. Just click the game you're interested and it gives you a list...

Info
Game Demo.............................FREE
Full Version .............................. 400 Cs

VALIS, Mutant Storm really that good? I was interested to get it, but I don't like how its twice the price of Geometry Wars.

What was the name of that cool military game that played like SmashTV?

If you like Geo Wars, Mutant Storm is similar but a lot more deep. The scoring system is great - you have to keep going without dying to increase your multiplier, you also earn points towards rankings (yellow belt, red belt, black belt, etc.) the further you progress without dying. The achievements for the game are well done. Challenging, but won't take forever or don't just require pure luck, unlike some of the other achievements I've seen.

I've been playing it all morning. For the hell of it, my ratings on a 5 star scale...

Mutant Storm Reloaded 5/5
Geometry Wars 4.5/5
Zuma 4/5
Bejeweled 3.5/5
Hexic HD 3.5/5
Outpost Kaloki X 3/5 (but I haven't given it much time yet)
Bankshot Billiards 2/5

And then there's Gauntlet and Joust, but everyone's familiar with those already.

TOTAL CARNAGE!! Now that's my Joint and the main reaosn I bought the Midway Arcade Classics disc it was on. I prey every night that that game comes to XBL arcade. Dammit Sega where the hell is Quartet and Alien Syndrone!! ARRGH!!!

I'm surprised as hell how much I'm loving XBLA!! Boththe classic and original stuff thus far. I've got family in town for the holidays and they're eating this stuff up. Microsoft is on to something here, they just need to keep up the momentum. This stuff is simple, easy to pick up and play and absolutely fantastic quality. Check out my Gamercard, I've was up at 2am this morning hooked on Mutant Storm. :lol

Anyone know how to pass Survival mode in Hexic HD? I been playing for 2 days now (resume game later) am now on level 43. Do I have to clear the whole board?

survival mode is play until you lose. there is no win in survival.

Sure there is. Clear the board, or make it to level 50. In fact there's an achievement for beating survival mode.

Man, Xbox Live Arcade is soooooooooooooooo awesome. But holy shit is it expensive :( At first I thought 100points = $1.00 so I was like $4 for Geometry Wars and $8 for Mutant ~~ isn't too bad...maybe I'll grab them.

But then I realized it cost more like $5 and $10. $5 still being fair but at $10 that's kind of pricey after having just come away from spending so much on launch.

Oh well, I've just been a cheapass and playing demos :P I love the idea behind XLA, but if there's going to be hundred of games available, then I'd like to see the prices drop. Especially since most of this stuff would be freeware on the PC.

Yeah, like Kaloki and Mutant Storm. Oh, no, wait. They cost $20 on the PC and sell well enough to support the developers.

360 cuts the price in half and people whine.

Here, I'll fix it for you:

I think there's a bug in Smash TV.

I'm pretty sure it's supposed to stop you from progressing about midway through the first level. No idea what I did, but I got the screen to go away, and I've now played through two full levels.

Watching LOST now, so I won't progress again until 10:00 or so, but I've been playing this much longer than the other XBLA games.

I bought Geometry Wars, the game is twice as fun with acheivements to earn. Not only does it set you a solid goal, but there is one challenge "passive" where you have to not die during the first minute without shooting a single bullet. Getting that one was SO MUCH FUN! I hope most games have more challenges like that, but mostly all I've seen has been "beat this stage" and "collect this many points". More crazy challenges!

And crazy doable, not Hexic HD's "random fucking luck if you can set this up" crazy.

Where are the card games? I've been looking for them for 2 days now to shut my wife up :p

Yeah, sorry about that. I assumed they were on XBLA already since they were rumored to be among the first, but they haven't shown up yet.

Do games really cost that much? I only really play non-major-label PC games if they are recommend in threads and usually those tend to be freeware or shareware. I mean most of these games say "if you like the game please donate $10-20", which I think is a lot different than these games charging you $10 on XLA.

But whatever, I have the money and if a game is really good I'll pay $10 for it. But so far the free demo versions are enough for me. I can't even survive until the end of the Geometry Wars Retro demo, why should I buy the full game :P

Zuma/Bejewelled cost $20 on the PC if you want the full version with all the levels and modes and whatnot. Same for the others. The demos are usually just pretty extensive compared to normal console/pc game demos.

Really though, be honest: "non-major-label" = "raping tentacle 200X", right?

How are those ALG/Bluth games going to fit on a mem card? And, since we're on the LD game kick, where's Time Gal, Road Avenger, Super Don Quixote, Cobra Command, and Cliffhanger?

Wow, the Dragon's Quest games? That's really cool. Any mention of price for them?
no. but from what i know, no arcade game is supposed to be over $15. most are supposed to be between $5 & $10.

Yo Jesiatha -

HELP! Valis and I played like 5-6 games over LIVE of Smash TV co-op but we couldn't figure out how the extra guy system worked. There were times that the game ended on us when we still seemed to have guys left. Other times our extra guy count would grow without us picking up a Afro guy (extra guy icon)

Is this gliched right now?

Yeah, co-op seems glitched right now. Several times we were in the 1st level boss screen and the game just ended without both of us dying. 1 player seems fine, though.

Cheers. I still don't know how much they'll cost here in Britain but I'd guess about £10 max. (hope so, anyway, otherwise it's going to be too much IMO)

btw I meant Dragon's Lair, not Dragon's Quest. It's early in the morning and I'm sleep deprived :D

Thanks :) £17.50 for 2100 points? That's not too bad but I doubt I'll be spending very much on it, especially at launch

gauntlet over LIVE:

There are no continues in co-op, and you can't give yourself health,

This can't be right, can it? Surely you don't all just die and can't add health? The health ticks down even when you don't get hurt (money grabbing Atari bastards...), so that seems stupid?

This sounds more like Digital Leisure re-re-re-re-rereleasing their shitty DVD video versions of those games, as 'compatible with the Xbox 360' and has nothing to do with XBL Arcade
