One of the DS bugs was the absolute fucking worst. Restart on the exact same puzzle every time you turn on the game. I heard some people just left their DSes in sleep mode and never played any other games to avoid the bug.
I'm sure THAT bug will be fixed, and I'm sure there will be plenty of new bugs.

Definite pass on Sonic 2... Puzzle Quest? Maybe. I have a level 50 Paladin on my PSP and I love the game so much, I might take the plunge again.

I wonder if PQ will be cleaned up at all. Both the DS and PSP versions are buggy as hell, and eventually annoyed me just enough to get me to stop playing when I was getting to the end.

I'm sure XBLA Certification will iron all of that out though.

They have addressed bugs for the XBLA version. Steve Fawkner said something along those lines on II's forums.

I didn't realize this was out of the ordinary. My DS never shuts off. I always leave it in sleep mode, unless I decide not to play it for a month. Sleep mode is not some bad thing. It's very battery efficient, and you don't have to deal with powering on every time you play. I've never seen this bug in PQ DS, and I played the hell out of the game (and saw many other bugs).

I don't know if I believe that. I have downloaded demos from both the Euro and Japanese marketplace. Unless you're saying that arcade games work totally differently.
I can't see how they could actively IP check reliably anyway.

Believe. Demos and game content are also region locked by IP if they are M-rated. It began last spring update. I cannot donwload DOOM, content from Gears of War, etc. It is easy to check your IP number to see if it fits in the region.

Of course you can use Internet proxies, but that is a pain to setup.

Strangely I didn't notice it for a while either until I restarted a few times in one day and went "hmm, this feels familiar." I have no issue with sleep mode, but having to keep the game in and in sleep mode to avoid this bug is a bit silly and impossible if you bounce around between a few games like me. Yeah, there are tons of other bugs too.

As some of you might recall the Xbox Live Arcade revival of Sensible World Of Soccer was supposed to get released back on August 29, well, obviously that didn't happen for one reason or another. (something fishy went down that week but it gave us Streets of Rage 2 so it worked out in the end) At any rate, some digging into the Codemasters forums website has yielded this post and it looks like the delay is going to last a little longer as the title has shifted out of Summer 2007(which doesn't officially end until September 21) in to the nebulous TBA slot. One "Rubbergenius" of the Codemasters forums assures the readers of his word that the title has not been pushed back to like December and seems to be hinting that the real reason for the delay is they are waiting for Microsoft to give them a weekend, but that is just speculation on my part.

That's really unfortunate. Oh well, last thing I need right now is another great casual game but I really wanted to play this one and was hoping it would come next week.

It still might come next week, the release schedule is that loopy.

Space Giraffe please. Jeff Minter posted on his forum a couple months back that it was done. I want to play it.

I heard it's still stuck in certification

Not sure if this was posted before, but damn, Jeff Minter seems pretty fucking pissed. Almost sounds suicidal at the end there...

ok, I think the thing here is that basically we have done our level best over the last year and a half to provide something that we think is a good deal for the end user. We've done that at considerable risk to ourselves, gone out on a limb, had no income during the process, and at the end of it delivered something that in terms of Llamasoft releases is simultaneously the most effortful (having taken over a year of two people's fulltime work) and the *cheapest* (costing less than anything we've sold since 1982).

On top of all that we've had the controversy, with clueless fuckers kicking us in the nuts before we've even launched and people swearing *blind* that we're just being wilfully obscure and that what we consider to be valid experimentation is in fact self indulgent wankery.

I know that's not true, but if i try and defend myself I get castigated for "not being able to take criticism" or whatever. I know loads of people actually like what we've done but there are others who just try to say that's not valid and all those people are for some reason just wanting to tell us what we want to hear as opposed to what is true.

And then there are people trying to exploit the damn thing, people complaining because something doesn't work how they want it to, people complaining because they are the customer and always right and demand a certain response for their £3.50, and good goat I can't take it any more. I really can't. I need to absolutely disconnect from Space Giraffe. I love it to bits and I will enjoy playing it but I can't bear being emotionally invested in it any more. Now I want to try and look forward to the next thing and to be brutally honest I am not even sure at this point I want the next thing to even be another game. Maybe I should just focus on the lightsynths, there doesn't seem to be the same level of vitriol involved in those.

I'm tired, tired of the goddamn Rev, tired of those who call me somehow evil for giving a shit, tired of the act of giving a shit itself, tired of waking up and feeling anxious and upset, tired of everything at this point.

I'll still be around, but I won't be talking about SG, about the design of SG, or the critical response to SG, or anything else related to it.

Whatever happens now you've had your £3.50s worth. I'm sorry. For my health's sake I need to look elsewhere now.

Holy effing shit.

I don't even know what to say. I wish the guy would make a million more games. I love how Space Giraffe is an "old school" game, only brand new. As if you went back in time and played a new game from the 80s. Like Pac Man CE.

Wow. I am filled with sadness now.

God Minter's emo. He can make games but man does he not know how to handle things.

Have you ever put your heart and soul into something only to have everyone tell you it's absolute shit? It's not like he was getting paid by some corporation to make this game. This was his baby.

Who are these "everyone" you speak of? The reviews have been mediocre, but the fan reception has been overwhelmingly great from what I've seen.

And it's not exactly news that reviews on XBLA games should be ignored, as they're pretty much always clueless. I don't see what Minter's problem is -- he has his own forum filled with people gushing over his game.

I tried Marathon again...yep still sick. Didnt notice a change in FOV, noticed they turned the sensitivity down as default though. And it seems like they added a survival stage for the trial..at least I think they did.

Wow @ Minter.

Seems Minter is unable to let any ounce of criticism roll off his back. The game's getting lots of praise, instead he focuses on the negative things (and what game doesn't get at least a little of that?). When I made a dig at Space Giraffe on a blog last year he freaked and made me enemy #1 on his messageboard and blog.

I better not mention that the demo didn't do anything for me then... (zips lips)

Can't blame the guy for getting upset though. But he should chill out a bit. Water off a duck, man...

Cyberball would have been one of the best games on XBLA had it had what the ORIGNIAL ARCADE VERSION HAD: 1 v 1 play and 2 v 2 play.

Instead you can only play against the computer and that's retarded.

That's hardly an excuse for his meltdown. He's obviously not very good at handling his emotions.

Oh look, Gerstman with another review I don't agree with. I'm a fan of Cyberball. Always have been. Yeah, it's a shame there is no versus online, but I wouldn't give the game a 2 out of 10 for that. I'm not going to pull a Minter and have t-shirts made about it... although a Gerstman-bashing t-shirt would probably sell well.

Oh, so I had to enable it? Crap...I guess I missed that. I think I already deleted the demo already

I just tried it. There's a "Classic view angle" option, which I enabled. But I couldn't really tell the difference (and it certainly didn't help).

jeff minter has some goodies for sp&llamasoft lovers on cafepress. it looks like he decided to take advantage of the oxm dan controversy :D .

There's no versus online OR local. Once you can destroy the AI there's no reason to play the game anymore

I wonder when it'll arrive on XBLA. Reallly looking forward to it, since N on PC is one of my favorite platformers ever (together with YI and DK: JB).
