Does Carcassonne's multiplayer ever work? Everytime I go into quick match I get a timed out error message. The game is really fun. I've been playing it a lot the past few days.

Ooohhh Frogger 2, yay :D Been playing the first one XBLA, the new graphics I have to say, do look really great, they just do.

If Frogger 2 is 400pts i'll be there day one!

Again, I have to ask; do we really need to bring that attitude back to the thread? It was a dark time that should be forgotten, not brought back.

There is some shit and some good, just like there is at retail. If Rocketbowl does come out before Rez, what's the issue? That's like moaning about Ninjabread Man 3 coming out before Smash Bros Brawl.

I'm interested in what exactly "Frogger 2" is though.. I mean, there technically is a Frogger II but it was published by SEGA entirely, much like Ms. Pac Man was originally made by Midway.

BUT I don't think it's.. ever been re-released anywhere. It wasn't even in the Arcades, it was a Commodore / Atari game. I don't even think Konami owns the game itself..

It's apparently being made by "VOLTEX", which I can't find ANYTHING about whatsoever. Google comes up with nothing.

So.. who knows. Here's hoping it's some elaborate recreation of the game re: Pac Man CE! A man can dream.

:D Ah who knows, it's purely speculation. It's not Digital Eclipse for one, so who knows?

In that order. Go.

I guess I didn't make myself clear, I'm looking for a game in the vein of Arkadian Warriors, but is actually good. For the record though, I have Puzzle Quest, Catan and Carcasonne already (would LOVE another game similar to Catan and Carcasonne).

PRESS RELEASE: Hudson Entertainment Dates Omega Five For Xbox Live Arcade
Press release supplied by Games Press 15:24 (GMT) 03/01/2008

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

REDWOOD SHORES, CA - January 3, 2008 - Hudson Entertainment, the North American publishing arm of Hudson Soft, today announced that Omega Five for Xbox LIVE Arcade will be available to consumers on January 9, 2008 for 800 Microsoft Points. Published by Hudson and developed by Natsume, the game is an entirely new original IP featuring a side-scrolling shooter set in a gorgeous 3D environment.

Taking place in a far-flung future, Omega Five delivers hardcore action never seen before on the platform, while providing visually stunning graphics that pushes the limits for a digital download game. The game is set in multiple 3D environments and features incredible special effects and enormous battles, all in high definition. Omega Five is distinct in that players can choose from multiple humanoid characters, each with their own unique special attacks and upgradeable weapons, which they can shoot in 360 degrees. Omega Five also includes a local co-op function so a friend can join in on the aerial mayhem.

Hudson also released details on the final playable character. R.A.D. is another of Omega Five's unlockable warriors and is very similar to Ruby. Her skintight suit allows her to move much more quickly than Ruby, letting her weave through waves of enemy fire, though it also slows down her aiming.

. Weapon Type A: Vulcan Laser Cannon - R.A.D.'s initial weapon blasts enemies with rapid-fire laser beams. As the weapon is upgraded, the rate of fire increases, allowing her to unleash a non-stop barrage of laser fire.

. Weapon Type B: Reflecting Laser Beam - R.A.D.'s second weapon is a continuous laser beam that allows her to cut a swath of destruction through lesser enemies. Upgrades increase the power of the beam, splitting it in two, which also reflect off of certain surfaces. This lets R.A.D. attack enemies from around corners.

. Weapon Type C: Lightning Gun - Her final main weapon is a high-intensity lightning gun that roasts enemies. Upgrades increase the power, letting R.A.D. slice through enemies at will, as well as adding secondary lightning bolts that shoot out from the main beam at nearby enemies, doing incremental damage.

. Alternate Attack - R.A.D. has one alternate attack, which sends out satellite that can instantly destroy lesser enemies or anchor onto stronger enemies. After the satellite latches onto an enemy, it deals continuous damage, and R.A.D. is still able to fire in any direction. Additionally, while the satellite is floating around R.A.D., it can block enemy fire.

. Dimension Field - All characters can quickly teleport to another dimension for a brief time, allowing them to avoid enemy attacks, though at the expense of a small amount of life.

. Ultimate Burst - All characters can unleash an enormously destructive nuke-like attack, after having collected at least 100 p-chips (the pink triangles that appear after defeating enemies) to fill one p-jail (the golden triangles at the bottom left of the screen).

Additional assets from past releases, including screenshots and trailers, as well as information on other characters (Ruby, The Tempest, and Sensei), are also available.

ESRB Rating: Everybody 10+ for Fantasy Violence, Mild Suggestive Themes.

Is Switchball worth the 800 points? The demo looked fun and the physics were cool, but I'm concerned there may not be enough content to justify the purchase.

It's worth it, although the camera can get frustrating in the last few worlds. Attempting time attacks is fun and you need to play the co-op levels, they're pretty cool.

Yeah, sure. It'll drive you insane if you're a screen tearing whore though.

ooow yeah I knew I forgot to mention something! The tearing in this game is through the roof, that's a fact. Especially if you ditch the auto cam and go for manual control, what you have to do most of the time. I don't mind this too much but I can see why others do and it's a big issue in this game.

Same for me, though I can occasionally join player matches and have no issues hooking up with my friends.

What ever happened to PopCap developing for XBLA?

Arnt they one fo the biggest downloadable/casual games makers out there?
didnt the head XBLA guy go to head that division?

Have they just shut the doors on this?

gimme peggle & bookworm god damn it

Also how the hell has there not been a brickout clone on XBLA yet?

About Rocket Bowl - I played in on Gametap last year (I believe it's still available, for the curious) and while it's nothing to get excited about graphically, it's actually not bad gameplay-wise. It's a hybrid of golf and bowling.

Certainly more enjoyable than 3D Mini Golf Adventures.

Popcap is still developing for the XBLA, they have one known game in development, one Feeding Frenzy 2.

Quick match never works for me either. When I do custom player match I get a list of around 10 games, all of which vanish and sometimes leave 1 or 2, and I can usually join one of those. I don't know if it's a problem with Live recently, or a problem with Carcassonne.

Carcassonne really needs a patch anyway to fix the audio. I hate it when you close 2 cities in one go and the sound effect plays at double volume.

The Fast & The Furriest: Rare's latest XBLA project

Posted Jan 4th 2008 1:30PM by Dustin Burg

We just received exclusive information concerning what one of Rare's next gaming projects is and you'll be surprised to hear that it's both an Xbox Live Arcade game and it uses the Vision camera. Tie your running shoes, do a few stretches and warm up those hammies. Rare's The Fast & The Furriest is real and is coming our way.

After reading through presentation materials that were sent to us from one of our super secret inside sources (yeah, we got 'em too) we've learned that Rare is working on an Arcade party sports game featuring some of Rare's iconic characters called The Fast & The Furriest. The Fast & The Furriest will feature all kinds of sports based mini-games that include a 100 meter dash, bungee run, hurdles and tip-tup curling. Rare also has plans to release XBLM content packs that'll expand the event offerings including croquet, bowling, volleyball, fishing and various target games. And get this. Most, if not all, the games can be controlled using the Vision camera if one chooses (but not required). But back to what we said about Rare IP characters being used. Each player will be able choose a character like Conker or Banjo which will actually be a "suit" (think mascot suits). Players will then be able to scan their face using the Vision camera to skin the face opening of the character suit. Taking the whole face mapping thing a step further, they'll be using character faces as in game assets appearing on scoreboards and reflecting off objects like ice.

We also learned that Rare experimented with a wand type input device for gesture recognition (think Wii controls), but seems to have scrapped the idea for The Fast & The Furriest due to technology problems. It's possible we'll be seeing a special gesture controller, but not from Rare.

We've seen the presentation materials and have trust in our super secret insider. The Fast & The Furriest is real, is planned for the XBLA and in development by Rare. When the game will release, how much will change between now and then and if it'll even survive the development cycle is a book of mysteries of it's own.

Actually Jumper is just a regular title, it's based off a movie coming in a month or so "Jumper".

I see, it was the publisher that threw me off, usually XBLA titles have publishers with names like "Brash Entertainment."

I am saddened that the best-selling original IP on XBLA is 3D Ultra Minigolf. No love for Puzzle Quest. :(

Whoa, 360 sports... I like the concept and applaud any excessive use of the Vision camera, particularly for personalized leaderboards. Plus, it'll have Banjo in it. Here's to hoping there will be Killer Instinct characters as well. I wonder if the face mapping technology will somehow have a review board so the top 100 faces on the leaderboards are not all penises.

Total bomba for me, Arcade was in 08...didnt like most of the games

When is the new Street Fighter coming out?

Is there a schedule yet, for releases this year...or at least the first few months of the year?

I see everyone else likes XBLA, but its just so much ass to me...I thought we'd be getting some big titles on a much much smaller scale...but its like all they are releasing is quirky shit...whatever, I'll wait

Out of curiosity, what sort of stuff were you expecting on XBLA? I'm not sure what big titles on a smaller scale means. Like does Puzzle Quest fit that description? Or Alien Homonid?

Or is a better example found elsewhere?

As I said, just curious, nothing more.

I think what he's probably hoping for are smaller scale versions of original games from big franchises. Like say GTA: Missions, or Halo: Unknown Stories, or FF/NG/DMC/whatever spinoffs. Kinda like how the PSP and DS gets portable versions of big franchise titles, it would be nice if XBLA had the same, instead of ports, shovelware and occasionally new IPs that are pretty fun.

WiiWare's launching their service with a FFCC town building sim, I think that's kinda a nod in the right direction in terms of branding and stuff.

I'm more worried that wer're ALREADY seeing sequels to XBLA arcade games, classic games like Sonic and Sonic 2 or Pac Man / CE I can understand, but we've seen:

Mutant Storm Reloaded / Empire
Hexic HD / 2
Street Fighter II / HD
Feeding Frenzy / 2
Frogger / 2
Tron / Discs of

I like Ninjabee's idea of trying out all kinds of different development.

Xbox Live Arcade

its a mini arcade on your console, its not meant to be delivering full scale games at full scale prices, just cheap, quick, and fun shit

What's coming next week? I need to spend my spare 800 points on something and only something like Chessmaster or Ikaruga will do.

Omega 5.

Anyway, I triple dipped on Metal Slug and twice in a row I made it to the final boss on mission 4 without a "miss" and died to something retarded (wolf attack/gold attack).

WTB FUCKING LEVEL SELECT.

With a little more practice I should be able to do mission 5 without dying too, its those bastard vertical scrolling parts that get me every time.

RUMOR: Grand Theft Auto Classics coming to XBLA

The classic Grand Theft Auto 1 and 2 have now officially become an XBLA rumor as industry gossip Surfer Girl has stated on her blog that the pair of titles will be gracing console downloadable services this year. The titles would make a great marketing tool for the release of Grand Theft Auto 4, which is scheduled to be released sometime next year. Not to mention that the games themselves would practically print money on all three consoles. If you have not yet played either title both titles are currently available as free PC downloads. This whole rumor has gotten me thinking not will you I these titles, but what should the achievements be? Hijack all car types? Run over 1000 innocents? What do you think is the perfect classic GTA series achievement?

yep its just stilly, XBLA is starting to hit saturation with some genres and because of the nature of the service, the long tail, timeless factor in the games plus you cant trade them in, if a game isnt offering anything new or different there is just no point.

MS originally intended to have a wide and varried base for XBLA making sure they were doubling up on certain types of games, looks like thats policies on its arse.

Personally for quick puzzle games Im now done with XBLA (& top down duel stick shooters tho GeoWars2 maybe a expection). All the bases are covered for what I want to play.
