So, Ikaruga is HD remade like Rez, or just upscaled?

( or it's just using filters to "look like HD" like Metal Slug does? )

If it's HD, i just can't wait ...

Anyone else get TRON?

I did.

It's TRON.
Tank levels still kick my ass.
Oh well.

Tonight after work I'll be snagging it, won't be the same outside the original blacklit arcade cab and the combo spinner/awesome glowing flight stick though.

So the emulation is pretty good?

Thank God Stainless wasn't involved.

Really excited for this AND Omega Five.

I agree 100%. I've never played their XBLA offerings but I did pick up the Atari Classics "Evolved" collection and man the Stainless versions freaking suck. They add so many unnecessary special effects it's hard to keep track of anything(Playing Tempest for more than an hour straight will make you go blind I bet).

I might just download a gamesave to unlock all of the Atari 2600 games to be honest. I'm already sick of fooling through these shoddy remakes(you can't unlock the..um.."accomplishments" playing the normal non-evolved arcade games, and you have to unlock all of them to get the 2600 games).

Digital Eclipse isn't perfect but at least they don't go out of their way to screw things up. The dual analog setup for TRON works pretty decently. I haven't tried the multiplayer or enhanced graphics mode yet however(got sidetracked by Omega Five).

Kickass. At the moment I think the one part of the game that I'm apprehensive about is the MCP level with the Grid Bugs. Can't wait to check it out.

You are dead on with the "I can't see SHIT!" issue surrounding the Stainless remakes, I bought Asteroids and the updated Evolved version is basically unplayable thanks to the BS flashy (Yet horrible) updated spark effects and crap all over. The Tempest demo I tried is even WORSE.

I should mention that I've heard complaints about sound issues and text being hard to read =/. I haven't really noticed either because it's been a couple years since I played the game(this local gamestore I used to go to had a TRON cabinet).

Figures it wouldn't be perfect. DE never is when it comes to ports it seems.

It seems like the demo for TRON is a reasonable chunk of game.. you can at least get a feel for how stuff controls.

I used to love the game in the arcade, but I couldn't get into the demo at all.

(And I thought there were sound issues too, nothing that bad, though).

I'm a bit behind on my XBLA games. Finally got around to playing the Switchball demo. I liked the game itself quite a bit, but I encountered quite a bit of tearing. Tearing typically doesn't bother me, but it was pretty constant in the demo. It also froze on me for several seconds a couple of times. Anyone else have performance issues with it? I don't imagine this has been patched at all?

Rerendered in higher resolution, if I recall.
# 800 MS Points
# LIVE Co-op + leaderboards
# Replay mode
# Horizontal mode (windowed) is higher resolution than even the arcade version
# Vertical modes (tilt) supported, both left and right rotations.

yeah it's a tearfest. I haven't had any in game freezes in the final version though. What doesn't seem to work are the leaderboards. My 360 often freezes when I try to access them, really fucked up. I don't click on them anymore.
anyway consider the full version though, the first 3 worlds of the game are really great and so are the co-op levels. I had the most fun playing those tbh. Worlds 4 & 5 are a bit of a bitch because you really start to notice the flawed camera system in those more complex levels.

If anyone else is disgusted by the poor audio and control issues of TRON there is a petition to get the issues fixed. As a huge fan of the old arcade I was a bit pissed off at the lack of quality in this release.

http://www.**************.com/alan1/petition.html

This is not MY petition but I thought other retro XBLA users may want to express their problems with it.

EDIT: I didn't realize this site was on the crap list. heh.

Eh I'm having fun with TRON(though I may never get that "User" or the "Exterminator" achievement).

The lag issue online is really annoying though, looks like I'll have to make a friend to get the online achievements with.

The right stick controls aren't exactly great either, but I guess it's to be expected since the original arcade game had a rather unique control setup.

What the? Is this coming sooner that expected? Like next week?

That is actually a strong possibility. On the other hand, we know the game is up on Partnernet, so Team XBOX could have just upped and reviewed that.

Tron is the worst game on XBLA by far. I never paid attention to the screenshots and assumed they were going to up the graphics and everything. Boy was I way off.

It can't be... it's not available in Japan/Korea, and the free game is going to be a worldwide one.
They can choose a different game for different regions. They did that with the 5alive thing.

I think the idea that it might be Undertow could make sense... give a game that's been well-received but not widely downloaded, that could really be big with a massive online community, etc.

Reason why it might not be -- not first-party...

I still think they should just plunk some points in peoples' accounts. I'd rather get 400 points than an 800-point game I don't want. I guess the question will be for Microsoft -- what can they do that's cheapest? (not the best criteria, IMO... hopefully they'll look at it as "what can we do that's cheapest but doesn't seem cheap)

...wow, way to completely miss the fact that Poker Smash is a thinly veiled Panel De Pon / Tetris Attack clone. No wonder nobody here is interested in it yet. :/
But...it's not really a Panel de Pon ripoff. It looks like it, but doesn't really play like it. You can move your "cards" freely around the board (except vertically) as you please and stuff. The game is really fucking fun, though. I binged on new XBLA games yesterday and I couldn't stop playing Poker Smash. I ended up messing around and wasting too much time with it, that I ran out of time to do the job I was there to do. :lol

Some impressions of what else I played!

Bliss Island: Cute and a little fun but I only played the first level and if that's all the game is, there's a Shrek-N-Roll situation there. I think LakeEarth said it earlier in the thread; "What? That's your entire game concept?"

Boogie Bunnies: Really fun actually, but a bit too easy. It's a Bust-A-Move clone without the aiming and bouncing off walls, and you can even run up the sides and place bunnies wherever you want, basically.

Brain Challenge: Slick and well-made Brain Training clone, but it's a shameless clone. I recognized several of the nanogames from BT.

Commanders: This is the Advance Wars-alike, and it's really good from what little I played. I adore the whole 50's sci-fi angle they chose for the graphics, and the 50's-style soundtrack.

Frogger 2: This currently reboots your console before it even starts, but I got far enough to see that it seems to be a brand new game. Don't know if there ever was a classic Frogger 2, but this definitely wasn't a Digital Eclipse emujob and the main menu was all like "Start New Adventure Game" and stuff.

Ikaruga: Remade in HD and looks and plays beautifully. Harsh achievements.

Lost Cities: Simple but kinda fun little card game. Very early build.

Pirates vs Ninjas Dodgeball: Meh.

Rez HD: Oh my, amazing port. Completely remade in HD and it looks fantastic. One of my favorite details was all of the visual and audio filters it had. I loved playing with underwater sound (the beats were really blowing our office up, so awesome) and my favorite visual skins were sepia, bloom (everything is glowy and fuzzy) and the awesomest: tile, where the entire screen is divided into blocks of colors and the entire game looks like...kinda like a giant Picross puzzle.

Rocky & Bullwinkle: This, surprisingly, was a lot of fun as well. It's by the Pinball FX guys, and it's a Wario Ware clone. Tons of wacky and fun little minigames and videoclips from the show, and the entire game carries on the look of cheap animation that the show had. Pretty respectful of the show, I thought, and it's amazing how few license-based games bother to pay any respects to the source. (I mean, when they're not adventuring, the Shrek crew hangs out on giant see-saw contraptions and roll balls all day? Wat.)

I might be going totally isamu myself. I was excited before, but now that I've seen what a good port it is, I...AAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!!

I'm disappointed I didn't get to see the achievement list, though. The option was greyed out in the version I tried, which I guess means they're not finalized. I'm curious to see what they'll do for Rez.

I guess 5 achievements for beating each of the stages, maybe one for 100% analyzation on 1-4, maybe one for ascending to the highest form of being without playing the last stage. Maybe 5 more for completely 100%'ing 1-4? I'm hoping there's one for freeing the girl. I never could bother to get 100% in everything in every level in the previous versions, and I'd like the motivation to do so.

400 pts is basically $5, which is essentially what you pay for, for a month of Live. Seems pretty fair to me.

I am rooting for small devs to do well on XBLA, and this is sad. :(

Thanks for the impressions though!

Actually from what I can recall they give you quite a few points for simply completing levels, one for analyzing 95%+ for 1-4, and a bunch of others. And it's strictly 200, and not the 215 or whatever a video showed.

I hadn't seen Frogger 2, did it look like they were taking the whole "anthro with backpack" Frogger look they're using now, or something more retro?

I was hoping it would be Undertow. I think that is the highest rated XBLA game that bombed on the charts.

I'd laugh if the free game was Rare's "The Fast and the Furriest". I hope it is now.

I'm with Sean on this one. I mean, if it really was something like Undertow (in other words: something that's already available), why do we still have to wait a few weeks before we can even get it? And remember: Jetpac Refuelled also came out pretty quickly after it was officially announced, so it could very well be "The Fast and the Furriest" if those rumors were correct.

The title screen is this little (and very cute, I might add) frog jumping around on leaves on water. No backpacks and no walking on hind legs.
