Due to release on Xbox Tuesday, June 7, 2005 in North America, and Friday, June 10, in Europe, the Xbox version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, like the updated Double Pack of Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, features upgraded graphics, with 480p and 16:9 Progressive Scan support, higher resolution textures, new lighting and shading models, and increased draw distance.

This means the vast roster of characters, vehicles, and backgrounds will appear sharper and clearer in all parts of the enormous three-city landscape, and the draw-distance will increase, thus affording players a better, more realistic state of disbelief. For non-believers, check out our two exclusive screenshots (HERE), or go take a look at the GTA: Double Pack on Xbox, which really does show the differences of the two systems.

Sound wise, Xbox owners will receive the generous ability to customize their own soundtracks. Not that they would necessarily want to, given the incredible eight-disc set of songs available in this action-adventure romp. But on Xbox, you will have the choice.

Finally, GTA fans also will be able to utilize a new 30-second instant replay feature specifically incorporated into the Xbox version. Thus, self-indulgent gamers (isn't that everybody?) can re-play radical stunt jumps, near-miss crashes, and particularly cool gunfights and bloody rampages to show off to their friends -- and they'll have proof to show them!

Thank you Rockstar! Can't wait to play this in June! :D

You gotta love R*, release GTA:SA and make tons of money THEN release the superior version. :D

Xbox version of San Andreas is going to obliterate the PS2 version. Glad I sold my PS2 version off last November and waited!

June can't come soon enough! :D

I thought ps2 version was just fine but...WTF IS THIS CAR I'VE NEVER SEEN IT BEFORE.

I think it's new, because I can't remember grabbing a car like that or having that paint job in the PS2 version. I hope there's new missions to go with these new vehicles :D

This is one game I wouldn't wait half a year for. I played 90 hours of the ps2 version, I think I got my money worth, and these new features aren't worth waiting months for imo.

I actually played the PS2 version for about 15 hours. The game is fabulous. But the choppy frame rate kept on making my eyes hurt. I tried so hard to play through the game but I couldn't. Once I caught wind of an Xbox version I sold the PS2 one off. It'll be worth it to play a smooth version of GTA.

I wouldn't be surprised if I drop 90 hours into the Xbox version. :D Between this, Conker, and Madden I'll be set until Xbox 360 comes out. :P

Yay?

I for one would, and did wait half a year for a superior version. Patience is always a virtue.

funny, I thought the frame rate was fine! It only dips when there are a lot explosions going on and stuff. Game is really good though, best GTA yet. I hope they cut down on the swearing for the next one :\

i waited as well, havent played one minute of this game yet, and i'm glad. cmon june!

I bought it the day it came out on the PS2, and I haven't had much time to play it. Plus the visuals irked me too. In so many ways it's better than 3 and VC, but the framerate was pretty bad.

Just traded it in because I knew I wouldn't be let down by the Xbox version. It looks great!

Looks like I'll be buying Xbox again this June (hopefully I can find one dammit). So glad I didn't beat the PS2 version.

I played the PS2 version for just a few hours. I made the choice to play some of my backlogged games before playing more San Andreas... Looks like I'll be playing the Xbox version now, it's coming up so soon.

I doubt there is new cars. They would have told us or something. This car is indeed in the PS2 version. Here's a capture of mine (bad quality sorry)
And i chose a better looking paint job imo ;)

yeah if there is any genre (franchise) that could benefit with next gen hardware its this one

(framerates, lighting, model quality, physics, enemy AI, hell even make it remember what cars are around you AND BEHIND you for more than 3.5 seconds)

I'm waiting for it, and I'm finally happy to know that I'll be able to play a superior version thanks to my patience. But obviously it depends on your priorities: there's even people that thinks it's worth to wait *one year* for an ablsolute masterpiece like RE4 on PS2, even if it surely won't be superior to the GC version ;-)

:lol

My bro bought me the PS2 version for my birthday along with the strategy guide. I only put about a half hour into it before hearing about the XBox version. So I flipped it along with the crappy Smackdown vs Raw for GT4. Visuals aside (and I thought the PS2 version looked fine), I prefer playing the GTA games on XBox anyway...the triggers just take a dump on the regular PS2 buttons.

i'm sold.

it looks much cleaner than the muddy ps2 look. at the end of the day it's a great game whatever the platform.

I didn't even look at the PS2 version in anticipation of this, what I knew would be, a much better version. Not like we didn't have tons of other AAA games to play instead anyhow. Fuck the PS2's chop-chop framerate.

How about the PC version? 60 fps anyone?

Good question. I may buy the PC version and a Logitech Rumblepad just for the modifications. Don't know about the previous versions but the PC version is actively going to support modifcations. Don't know how but it says so on the web page:

http://www.rockstargames.com/sanandreas/pc/

Under Features

Player Modifications Support, giving PC gamers the opportunity their own world within San Andreas

Man I hope that means Rockstar is going to be giving gamers tools to create their own maps! :D

Here are some PC shots:

Found a PC version preview at IGN. Frame Rate isn't mentioned, but this could be good news dark if the game is running smoothly on the hardware rockstar sent:

Thankfully for us San Fran kids, Rockstar was gracious enough to open up a local office just a few miles away from our fortified compound in Brisbane, and they even had a copy of GTASA for the PC to flash at us like shiny bling last week. I was tasked with heading up to North Beach, where we got a nice little presentation and some hands-on action. This build was on a laptop sporting a mobile version of the 9700 Pro (and using some Omega drivers, interestingly). San Andreas seems to support widescreen just fine, and I didn't notice any slowdowns, despite running hi-res wide--I recall it was 1650x1000. And thing loads incredibly fast. The game itself takes less than ten seconds (with a 3.2 GHz P4 and 1GB of PC3200 on the laptop), outdoor/indoor transitions are instantaneous, and cutscenes load whip-smart.

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmn. Hope he isn't bad at juding frame rates.

Here are the system requirements for the PC version:

Minimum System Requirements:
1GHz Intel Pentium III or AMD Athlon Processor
256MB of RAM
8x DVD-ROM Drive
3.6 GB of free Hard Disk space for a minimal install
64MB Video Card with DirectX 9 compatible drivers ("GeForce3" or better)
DirectX 9 compatible Stereo Sound Card
Keyboard & Mouse

Recommended System Requirements:
Intel Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon XP processor (or better)
384(+) MB of RAM
16x DVD-ROM drive
4.7 GB of free Hard Disk space for a full install
128(+) MB Video Card with DirectX 9 compatible drivers ("GeForce4" or better)
DirectX 9 compatible Surround Sound Card
Game pad with twin axis analog controls (USB or Joystick Port)
Keyboard & Mouse

Yeah man. I hope they cut down on the violence and guns and drugs as well in this M rated game.

The previous two GTA's didn't have as much swearing as SA does. Vice City didn't even use the F word.

I was going to bitch and argue, but I remember this already came up in the last San Andreas thread, so fuck it.

I'm curious to know if they added anything new beside some "technical" changes. Like new outfits and maybe even Cars.

No. Content is the same. Xbox and PC users get custom soundtrack option to use and the replay feature. But everything else is the same. Just upgraded to a great degree!:D

Do i see shadows?

Yeah the Xbox and PC versions are going to have real time shadows casting depending on the time of day.

I would love to play this on the Xbox or the PC but there is no way I'm investing that kind of time again to this game. I've put over 30 hours into the game and I'm only done the first area.

"Sound wise, Xbox owners will receive the generous ability to customize their own soundtracks. Not that they would necessarily want to, given the incredible eight-disc set of songs available in this action-adventure romp. But on Xbox, you will have the choice."

That's the best feature. I was disappointed by SA's soundtrack; I usually listened to either the country station (extra funny if you're a harmonica player) or the West Coast rap station. Vice City had a much better soundtrack, and I usually hate 80s music...but they picked the absolute best stuff. SA missed out on most of the best 90s music.

Is it just me or does the Xbox version look like its more touched up than the PC version, at least in those shots? Slightly sharper textures, a little more detailed models, softer lighting etc. Look at the trees in the Xbox version, they look like they got spruced up a bit whereas the PC flora looks like a straight PS2 port.

I dunno, maybe its the blown up res on the PC caps thats misleading, or its running on a medium setting.

Uh oh. That's like saying Beetlejuice 3 times with the Sony fboys :lol

The PS2 ROXORS or something like that!

If there's some good mods I will probably buy the PC version. I doubt I'll play through the single player again, games like this are long enough to begin with.

I thought K-Dust was pretty kick ass. Tom Petty and Grand Funk Railroad are all sorts of awesome, as is Eddie Money. I was surprised that it had Heart, since that doesn't fit with most of the GTA demograph. Then again, most classic rock doesn't.

I've preferred the PC version for each of them just because of mouse aiming. I'm even pretty good at driving with the mouse - though I agree the gamepad is better. Anyway, the game looks great, can't wait to play it - sorry if it's been mentioned. Is there a ship date for the PC?
