At least you get messages, without having to send any. when I used it, if someone wasn't responding to a message I sent I wouldn't get any, period.

I've never actually used any online dating sites but I had a girlfriend of 2 years when I was younger that I met on...the Dashboard Confessional forum :-\

In my defense I was like 17-18 years old, I was allowed to like that shitty music.

OH! My sister did meet her husband on Match.com though. The dude is a really good/awesome guy and that was the first time my sister had that much success with a relationship, so I at least have evidence that it can work well.

I also met a girl from Okcupid the day I signed up. She messages me, we talked on AIM an arranged a date for that day. She was also pretty cute and we boned that night despite her being only the second girl I'd ever hooked up with.

Dated her for a couple of months. Bitch was CRAZY in the end. Never met another girl from Okcupid but I did pull a good 15 cute lays from Koreancupid and Ublove when I was in Seoul for a year. Those two websites are like fish in a barrel.

I've had pretty bad luck with OKcupid. I think I've actually went out with one person. Maybe had conversations online with 3 people. I dunno if I'm being weird or something, I usually just message people that I feel I have something in common with.

But glad it's working for other people.

OKC is good but online dating takes patience and learning how to use it like everything else in life. Sometimes you get lucky and right when you sign up you meet the right person and you're set. When you're new, it pushes your profile out to many people and it's easier to get noticed. Sometimes it takes a while and a ton of dates and a lot of patience to learn what works and what doesn't, just like real life dating.

I've been in two relationships (including current one) through OKC and had some really great dates (and met some real crazy people
who were also real hot
). It's the definition of "don't knock until you try it" site.

The girl I'm seeing right now was a 99% match with me as well. I think the 1% is my willingness to get down on the first date, whereas she wanted to wait until five dates. Eventually we reached a compromise on four dates, and fun was had by all.

Can you give us some samples, your descriptions here are vague as hell.

I would almost always get responses back by striking up a conversation on a common interest and asking questions to which I actually cared about the answer.
For instance, my girlfriend of 18 months had mentioned Simon Pegg movies on her page, so I introduced her to Spaced and we went from there. Keeping things short is all right, as long as you give her a reason to get back to you.

And it's not that the girls are flaky, it's that they're getting messaged by a ton of dudes. They don't have a duty to tell you that they're talking to other people so you never know when one might end up seeing someone else.

I noticed that my girl stated that she doesn't like Mac and cheese as something most don't know about her, so I messaged her informing her of my similar hatred of the dish. Just kinda snowballed from there.

It's still early yet, but I have a good feeling about her.

I was on OkCupid for 6 months and got nothing, but I'm not really surprised. Deleted my account. I too had a friend who kept telling me to make an account so I have her to thank how much she made me realize how much of a loser I am. Heh.

If you are waiting for women to message you all you will get is fat ugly women and by fat I mean 275+. Any woman at a 3 or above out of 10 will be so flooded with messages that they won't even actively look for men on the site. Most of the women I met on dating sites never even used the search function. You have to actively send messages out. Just create a mass message and send it out to every woman that interests you in a 25 mile radius and then keep up with messaging the new additions to the site on a daily basis. You will get enough to where you can easily have dates every night of the week. It was getting to where too many wanted me to take them out on the same night. The issue then becomes money because it is fucking expensive taking women out on dates.

Sound advice. But for those that REALLY appeal to you, at least read their profile and try to mention something from it in your initial message. Copy and paste messages tend to be very generic and a lot of women can tell (in my experience).
