Oldest GAF member accounts that are still active?

What are some of the longest-surviving GAF accounts that are still posting here? EviLore obviously, and ManaByte. Who else?

I registered in 2009 apparently, but I know I've been lurking since about 2005. Was there a vetting / invite process to get an account back in the day? I remember there being a logo redesign contest for the forum in '05 or '06, back when it was just called "GAF" (no "Neo" yet). I designed a bunch of ideas, and I thought about emailing them in, because I didn't have an account at the time lol. No idea if I still have those anywhere.

I only joined recently so, I can't really say much about that. But if it's not Evilore... I think there were several users with thousands of posts, at least before 2017.

Yes, there was a vetting process. You had to use an authorized/independent email, as in something that wasn't Outlook or something. I still don't understand why was the registration like that, whereas now it's possible to register like any other forums.

I registered mine in 2012. I tried to register several years before and I was vetted out. I remember sending an angry email saying that I should get in because I worked at an important Spanish gaming site (which was true-ish, the site was important in the early years of the Internet but it was still a shit site). Make way for your king peasants 😏

Can't believe it's been almost 15 years since.

I joined in 2011 after lurking for a long while. Granted, that's nowhere near the oldest. I don't even know when gaf began honestly.

How long will it last? :P

13 years for me. I lurked for at least a year before joining as well.

Eh, i signed up before they started doing that, or at least when it became publically known, because when i signed up it was done within a day.
But then, the internet was much smaller back then and I already knew members from various aol chats and other message boards.

There were two GAFs before this one, btw. I wasn't part of the 90s one (maybe?), but i did get into the early 00s one.
I think anyone with a member number below 1000 or 2000 belonged to the forum before this reiteration (there were archives to the older forums, but they may be gone). The numbers these members have just means the order in which they were re-registered.
So my number being 379 doesn't mean I've been here longer than member 551, but it did mean i started posting on the new forum before him. It took a few days to get everyone re-registered.

I mostly lurk, because i still prefer the older ways of internet communication. I don't really talk to anyone from the old days anymore though, even those that left to resetera and the other GAF-split offs sites.
It's almost ironic that GAF feels like opa-ages now.

I lurked Gaf for years before I finally joined up in 2016.

I think I first came across Gaf around 2009/2010 when I was a die hard Final Fantasy fan following FF Versus XIII coverage.
I recall a lot of reliable gaming leaks coming from Gaf around then so I decided to stick around.

My account is 15 years old, so not the oldest, but pretty old. Since the NeoGAF was founded by its current owner Evilore, he will have (one of) the oldest accounts.

After neogaf took over from gaming-age I lurked for a while before joining. I don't remember exactly when I joined gaming-age but it was in the late 90s. Probably 99.

Here's what archive.org shows the forum list looking like back when I started lurking, circa Oct 2005. I wish I could find a snapshot of the gaming side topic list, but I can only find archives going back to 2011 at the earliest. The "1up: X05 Roundtable" topic seen in this shot predates the launch of X360, and there are actual 1UP employees in the thread. Chroist.

Going back to the first page on this forum is fun. Lots of people banned but also many people who simply stopped posting. MetalAlien MetalAlien was active then. Wario64 was super active then. He's not banned but I can't tag his name?

Let's pump the brakes a little. There's exceptions.

It's key to remember that we were only 'occupied' for about three years. That's a short enough time for some members to simply keep their heads down, or take an extended vacation.

Likewise, some members are coming back from bans.

Generally, unbanned old Gaffers fit perfectly into that... whatever it even was, and retain that posting style even today, I do agree. There's an example at the beginning of this thread. Being leery is smart. I am. But there are some people that completely flip that expectation on its head.

When did The Troubles start for GAF? Wasn't that like ~2015 and onward? As you can see from the posts above, GAF dates back to the late 90s.

Yeah, went off the rails mostly from 2015-2017. Things have been back on track for a similar stretch of time now.

No of coarse not everyone is like that.
All I'm saying is this place was one of the most despised sites on the internet by others even a couple years before it went bat shit crazy. I just wonder why people wanted to be apart of it back then.

Been around long enough to remember what Super Kyro is. But when the Forum switched over to neogaf I switch my username to this so it says 2004.

The way i see it, it's just returned to how it used to be pre-2008-2010ish. There's been a bit of an overcorrection and many GAFers have left, but i enjoy reading GAF again.

A lot of my friends, acquaintances, and favorite posters left before the purge, btw. Most due to just moving on, by gaining their own family and not really having to do with the politicking of the board.
