Oldschool space shooters, online?

Subspace maybe? That was more of a multiplayer battle thing.

Is that even online anymore?

Edit: Cool Tekuno, downloading now. :D It's been years since I've played this. I've gotta be careful not to become an addict again, though.

I used to play subspace and some variations of it (cosmic rift? wtf was it called), but that's not really what I mean.

I want to play something like gradius, ikaruga, r-type, warning forever, perfect cherry blossom, giga wing, etc. cooperatively with another player online.

God I was a Subspace addict.

LOOKING TO JOIN J12 FREQ.

If there are any decent zones up, we should get a GAF squad going.

And Pereira: I don't think there's anything like what you're looking for, although it'd be a cool idea.

If you start a GAF subspace squad, look me up, I'd be somewhat interested.

I think zsnes/zbnet and games like darius twin/etc. might be the only option.

In that case, anyone up for some zsnes action?

Is that the e-laser that you have available once you finish the game once? I'm still slowly progressing through that game. I love it so much that I don't want to cheat and use continues like crazy.

As for your question, I think you can also look up the version of MAME that can be played online through Kaillera. Needless to say, there's craploads of great shooters in MAME.

I haven't yet found any good repository for mame roms. Does GAF allow people to post links to rom sites?

Okay, back from my first Subspace session after 5+ years. Now I remember why I quit: almost 3 hours have flown by and it's almost impossible to stop playing, my fingers and wrists ache, and my eyes are watery and red.

Ah, memories.

It's like heroin without the whole paying for it thing.

I think most shmup lovers agree that shooters aren't meant to be multi-player co-op. It's no fun to play a shooter with someone else who can steal your power-ups or jostle the camera if you're at the edge of the screen. They only cause problems for you, the player.

You're better off playing something like Geometry Wars for 360, which has an online leaderboard, so you can see where you rank compared to other players around the world. Believe it or not, I'm beginning to think Geometry Wars is a Game of the Year contender.

That sucks. Scores are great but having a competant teammate would be a blast.

I really miss Armada 2, was supposed to be online and all.
