Are those air pistols really so loud that you need hearing protection? Or is it just for concentration?
They totally should cameo her in the show.
You don't really need hearing protection for air pistols or air rifles. They aren't whisper quiet but they aren't super loud either. If you were to fire an air rifle or pistol your neighbors on a few surrounding blocks would hear it, but not the whole town. It sounds like a loud crack, a very loud whip almost.
I've used several springer air rifles to their deaths over the years (thanks for the fun times Gamo). I'm trying to scrimp and save for one of these:

But I would need to buy a proper pump, and also a proper nice 3-9x scope. There always seems to be other things requiring $ in the way. Can't decide if I would want it in .177 or .22. It would be much easier and cheaper to get pellets in .177 then .22, but .22 would have a more powerful and chunkier hit. Never used a PCP air rifle before but apparently they are about the same level of noise as the springers .177 air rifles I have been using.
The thing with the target rifles and target pistols that these shooters are using, they are designed to have as little wasted energy as possible. They want the shooter to have as much control as possible so the amount of air being used is consistent with no wasted energy that can effect the projectile after leaving the barrel. These are not trying to fire at 1200 fps, they are trying to use just enough gas to get the projectile to leave the barrel at the desired speed with as little gas escaping as can be done. So it's possible target rifles, and in particular these target pistols, are actually pretty quiet. Maybe only several surrounding houses would hear you firing one.
Can't confirm that to be the case... but i've used my fair amount of air rifles over the years. They are fun and the ammo is cheap, wonderful for plinking. There are lots of junky ones out there though, and don't bother with BB's... go for pellets. Pellets are more accurate and hit harder.
