One last stroll through E3 2005

Yes, I know, E3 is long gone and everyone's gearing up for TGS already, but the amount of work that went into this rather cool look back at the show compels me to post it.

And before anyone says anything about me pimping Kikizo, I would have posted this regardless of the site it comes from. I really enjoyed it.

If you've got the computer to run the high-quality version, I highly recommend it.

Kikizo wrapped up its E3 2005 coverage weeks ago, but we've been saving this for the right time. "Right time" meaning, of course, when we finally got round to doing it. Because packing the story of E3 2005 - the biggest gaming event ever - along with its very finest babes, into a ten-minute video is not a trivial task (nor, it has to be said, a particularly urgent one).

But just like every year (since 2001, fact fans), we've done one of these funky montage video feature things. And this one is the biggest and best to date. It's kind of a "souvenir video" to keep, sealing our previous 10-hour E3 ultimate video coverage and all the video interviews (some still to come) as the finishing touch to the mind-blowing, free package.

The story behind the biggest gaming event ever in this 10-minute ultimate videomix, complete with the very finest babes of the show. Ultra hi-quality version HD 4MBPS 60FPS

You know what they say - Better late than never and all that.

And my favourite part of the video is the heckle from the Nintendo conference right at the end. Kudos to whoever that was.

Let go of the past.... 2005 was a crappy E3, let's just all forget about it.

And man, is Kikizo late or what? Don't they realize even the magazines have wrapped up E3 coverage months ago? :lol

Um, E3 closed its doors just under two months ago, so to say that magazines finished their coverage months ago already is bullshit.

And if you read the post you would see that we weren't especially concerned with getting this out immediately.

We also wrapped up our coverage a while ago, but it takes time to edit a video like this (KyotoMecca will show you the blood, sweat and tears) and there has been plenty of other stuff to keep us busy.

This is a free souvenir for those that would like a well-produced video keepsake from the show.

Thanks for the comments, though.

i basically wasted 3 days of my life going to this years e3. thats how bad it was. well...they 360 controller and full auto made up for attleast one of those days. :)

Yeah... when the biggest E3 news comes out only a month or more after the show itself, then that's not a good show for the fans. This year lived up to the mission of being for the industry insiders only..

Nobody wanted to take a "last stroll" through E3 even when it was still going on. Like half the people I've talked to didn't even bother going on the third day.

Am I the only one confused as to why Kikizo labels 640x480 video as "HD"?

Stop trying to convince yourself you don't regret skipping the show for the last five years.

To people bitching about E3, it was lackluster for most because of the lack of stuff right on the floor you could just walk up to. Four hour zelda lines, 3 hour PS3 lines, Square-Enix tickets being gone 2 minutes after the show opened, etc. all lead to a lot of frustrated people left to only what was immediately accessible.

Going as press, however, makes it feel like a totally different show. For example, I easily spent 3-4 hours playing Zelda...which was a great great experience.

Also, I'm a big DS fan, and the DS showing was second to none. So, for me, that made E3 worth it right there. I also have and like PSP, but the lack of any good games, save Burnout and Namco Museum (imo), left the PSP-biased pissed off at the showing.

Was it the E3 all the hype lead one to expect? No, not really.

Will next E3 be amazing? Yes, I think so...second round 360 titles, hands-on PS3/Revolution, and maybe a decent PSP line-up.

I've skipped since 2002 or 2003. I am sorry to have missed the related social gatherings, but the show itself has gone way downhill even with the introduction of new hardware (DS, PSP, X360).

Obviously it's because you aren't there anymore.

Last year's E3 was great. This year's show was lacking, you could feel the hardware transition vibe in the air. Next year will rock cinder blocks, for sure.

Plus hanging out with assorted GAF crew is always good for the soul. :)

Hahahaha, it's so true. I think at one point, when I went to sleep...I cried a little. =(

This was the second E3 where I felt everything was just out of place.

E3 '04: DS and PSP revealed, only brief concepts and lame tech demos to keep us happy.

E3 '05: The 360 was revealed over a month before, the PS3 showed off concept videos that may or may not be running in real time and the Revolution was shown in a very early stage with not a hint of actual news to go off of. On top of that, us PSP users are left out in the dust as Sony practically forgets all about the handheld it said would lead us out of the "handheld gaming ghetto."

Consider me officially jaded.

Ha ha ha! You mean the same way the IGN(Insider), GameSpot(Complete) and GameTrailers all refer to 640x480 videos as "HD"??? Because what they really are are high bitrate (thus clarity thus "definition" i.e. nothing to do with "resolution"). Well I have news. Kikizo's vids are higher def (in terms of bitrate) and where necessary, 60fps progressive. Which kind of makes them the most HD of all. You show me any website with true HD (res) vids that they do themselves right now. Nobody does becaue it's impossible. Any 720/1080p vid on any site right now is provided direct by developers. Even the watermarked ones like DOA4.

So anyway, this was Kikizo's personal E3 swansong.

And anyone who says this year's E3 was shit... obviously wasn't cool enough to be at the important parts ;-)

Just give us the video love that we clearly deserve.

Like the E3 DVDs coming out just this last week?

Kikizo did 10 hours of E3 many weeks ago at the sort of quality that panned IGN and GameSpot - and even the "keeper" DVDs that are releasing right NOW. This montage video just wraps it up... just as these DVDs release! That is all.

then that's not a good show for the fans.

E3 is "supposed" to be for the industry - not the "fans". And this video is not "news". Come on guys! Talk about missing the point. Does anyone even read/watch anymore?
