One month from today: BioShock Infinite

Am I the only one who thinks Elizabeth's character model is hideous ? Her face is completely wrong, what kind of effect are they after ?

Ken Levine's next BioShock is primed for a "strong release," according to Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia. Today, Bhatia increased his first month shipment forecast for BioShock Infinite to 3 million copies, citing "accelerated" pre-order activity at major retailers.

"Our recent channel checks have increased our confidence in the potential for success of Take Two's upcoming title BioShock Infinite. The title has been generating good buzz for some time. With less than three weeks before launch on March 26, we sense growing retailer optimism for this title," he said.

Unlike BioShock 2, which was developed by 2K Marin, BioShock Infinite is being handled once again by Irrational Games, which could help the title to "significantly outperform" BioShock 2, said Bhatia. He also noted that the limited edition of the title, which retails for a sizable $150, "appears to have sold out at most places."

The voice actor for Booker. That's pretty much it.

Did you watch the whole thing?

I think they either majorly changed the way Elizabeth's character works in the game, or wanted to keep that hidden until later.

And both voice actors are different. The original Elizibeth VO sounds like shes been smoking too much.

If it looks and runs as good as the console versions I'd be fine with that, don't need all the PC-exclusive bells and whistles just don't have a 360 or PS3 right now and need to play this
I would advise you to get the 360/PS3 version instead, a GTX260 will run the game for sure but I can't see it performing to well even at 720p/medium settings.

Besides, as you can see PC games can be broken at launch and given that BS Infinite is part of the AMD "Gaming Evolved" program chances are Nvidia won't get enough time to optimize their drivers.

Choice is yours but consider that before placing your order, PC gaming can be such a bitch sometimes it's downright sad.

I should've mentioned that. I would be really surprised if that character model is featured at all in the final game.

Awesome it looks like we got a new "comfy couch" argument against PC gaming on this forum.

But it's true isn't it ? I'm not saying all games are of course but I wouldn't necessarily advise anyone to get the PC version of a game, it's definitely far from being a trouble free platform and the gaffer I was responding to has to bear that in mind.

If he expects a full "plug and play" experience then he would be better off with a console version. PC gaming isn't suitable to anyone, it can be so complicated and off putting.

Sounds like you're taking the Tomb Raider issue and inferring that it's the norm for PC games instead of the outlier it actually is.

He said he doesn't have access to a console at the moment.

Most games on PC run just fine at release, and at most need a tweak or a driver fix to be released.

AMD and Nvidia have been pretty good lately about releasing solid drivers day 0 for popular games.

No, I'm not saying every PC release is as broken but even in the case of "good" ports there are people who are experiencing problems and technical issues, hence why anyone interested in a PC version should be very careful. You never know what's going to happen.

In his case a GTX260 won't do miracles and recent PC games don't tend to run extremely well on lower grade machines, I would feel dishonest to outright tell him to get the PC version instead of the consoles. If he does not care for graphics then it makes the choice even easier.

He said he doesn't have access to a console at the moment.
Good point, I read too fast.

Most games on PC run just fine at release, and at most need a tweak or a driver fix to be released.
That's the problem right there : from a PC gamer perspective this is a non issue, active PC guys are used to tweak and deal with drivers problems but if he just wants to install the game and play then he may be in for a rude awakening.

This is just a possibility, nothing tells me BS Infinite will run like ass on launch but it shouldn't be flatly excluded.

That is a valid argument.

Not like its difficult though.

Nvidia/AMD website > Download Driver > Double Click > Custom/Clean Install

Wow!

Wow!

But it can still be seen as frustrating, I don't know if the gaffer in question is a seasoned PC gamer or not, I don't know if he's ready for possibility of experiecing a few problems along the way.

If he has no consoles for now then he shouldn't skip over the PC version.

Yeah troubleshooted a fair amount of PC game woes, was more looking to see if the card I have will at least have parity with the consoles than wishing to not have to deal with a PC game being a PC game

Bioshock Infinite is an Unreal Engine 3 game, we can compare it to other UE3 games and see if it runs them well.

Borderlands 2. 54 FPS @1080p

Mass Effect. 66 FPS @1200p

UT3. 82 FPS @ 1200p

Mass Effect 3. 60 FPS @1080p (don't fully trust this one since its not by an objective source, though seems to be verified by this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnRNnp-FQz4)

Batman: AA. 106 FPS @1200p

Dishonered on a 260: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2q9r9lI2dM

Bioshock is looking to be more demanding than all of these games at maximum, but you can easily turn down the settings and I am confident you will be able to get a playable frame rate at 1080p.

Seems like a pretty capable card if you ask me.

I would say yes, for what it's worth :
http://uk.ign.com/articles/2013/01/15/bioshock-infinite-the-pc-version-difference
Chris Kline: Playing the PC version on Medium settings is fairly close to the console version, though higher quality in a few areas. As you go up from there to the High, Very High, and Ultra settings the difference is enormous.
You should be fine at 720p.

Yeah, I remember a ton of interviews with Ken saying that the amount you use her powers throughout the game affects her overall health and well-being. I wonder if that's still the case.

edit: Reading this Polygon piece, I'd say it's slightly spoilery in that it tells you in broad strokes what happens in a moment and how you might feel about it, but not exactly what happens. Also, I've read so much about this game that I'm recognizing the same anecdotes and the same language being used by Ken in different interviews. Sigh.

I play at 1440x900 and ME3 sung on my machine. Thanks guys. Confident about getting this now.

900p? You will have no issues running this game.

Card seems very solid after I looked into it a bit. Seems to run all modern games at, or above, 60 fps with respectable settings. And if you are playing at a lower res, you can probably jack up some of the options.

Remember to get your drivers, select custom installation, and clean install. Wait until the week it comes out and they should have some beta drivers up for maximum compatibility.

You only need to install the driver, you can uncheck everything else, you won't need it.
You can check Physx if you wish though.

Atlantic just did an article on the concept of Columbia

When America Was Female

From the 18th century until the early decades of the 20th, Columbia was the gem of the ocean, a mythical and majestic personage whose corsets or breast-plates curved out of her striped or starred or swirling skirts with all the majesty of a shield. She was honored from the birth of the nation -- "Hail, Columbia!", whose score was first composed for the inauguration of President Washington, was an unofficial anthem until the "Star-Spangled Banner" displaced it as the official national one in 1931 -- to the birth of the recording and film industries, which is why we have had Columbia Records and Columbia Pictures.

Edit:

Also, those soundtrack titles, holy spoilers. Two of them in particular. No one should click on that link or read the track names.

Is the soundtrack going to be locked away like "Sounds from the Lighthouse" was and I won't be able to buy it from Amazon or other places? That's a huge bummer if it is. Is there a different option for those of us buying the digital version from Steam, Amazon, GMG etc?

I haven't been paying attention to this game in awhile but...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGXZ2VKRpwk

Has the game been drastically changed since this gameplay video? I remember hearing they changed a lot of things...anyone know?

  • Brooker's VA
  • Elizabeth's model and VA
  • Skyhook design more robust and mechanically sound in the final game
  • Prompts on melee striking and leaping from skylines have been added to the game
  • TK may no longer have the same effect, being more akin to TK from Bioshock and being called Undertow. Not sure if the cannon round reversal falls under the effects of Undertow
  • On that note, the effect in the bar now seems to be a part of the Weapon Slave vigor, though the weapon will float in the air and act as a turret rather than shooting once and being equipped by Brooker.
  • Handyman design
  • Design aesthetics are more bright and colorful in the final version. Less reliance on strong shadows and earthy tones that we see in this footage.
  • This was more of a showcase on what they wanted the game to be, rather than what the actual game was. Many of those sequences may not be present in the game, if any are.
  • The Electrobolt hand aesthetic used for Shock Jockey in that footage has been replaced with a new design.

This seems to be a recurring theme with film scores, too. I have no idea why.

I just wish Irrational tagged the post as such. "Hey, the track names are VERY plot related", something to that effect. I was fine with it until two names near the end (one in particular was egregious).

Reminds me of "Qui-Gon's Funeral" on the Phantom Menace soundtrack (but not to that degree).

You don't need to complete the game to access the mode. There is a code you can input.

I figured as much, given the recency of the post compared to the game's product page; I was just pointing out that the latter hasn't been corrected.

Edit: D'oh, I was supposed to edit this into the above post.

That is a valid argument.

Not like its difficult though.

Nvidia/AMD website > Download Driver > Double Click > Custom/Clean Install

Wow!

if it where so easy... does anyone know what/where to find the most updated amd drivers that does not require SP1..... amd is fucked in the clean install route you have to do it manually... My system works perfect with every game so far.. BL2 and dishonored, Batman AA worked perfect... but I'm using old drivers R5870 I soo dun want to be disappointed in this game not working for me... probably my most anticipated game in close to a year..... My computer refuses to install SP1 properly tried over 20 times.... which is needed for the newest amd drivers... Stupid windows 7 :( :/... lol I'm too existed for this game, which is making me worry about this more than I should... need to forget about this game for three more weeks....... I looove PC gaming more so than consoles now but really glad for next gen that it will be easier to choose on consoles.. but I love tweaking and stuff soo much lol. Wish I was more software savvy...

Save your files you want to keep, drivers, and program installers (Chrome/Firefox, Steam, etc) onto a USB stick

Grab your Windows CD key

Download Windows 7 with SP1 iso from their official site.
x64 home premium http://msft.digitalrivercontent.net/win/X17-58997.iso
x64 Professional http://msft.digitalrivercontent.net/win/X17-59186.iso

mount iso to a usb using this tool: http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

Boot from that usb, choose reformat, delete your drives, and install.

What exactly is going on with SP1 for you? Is it saying anything specific?
Sorry for the OT guys... :/
well when looking for the error I got a few weeks ago... and got this.. I never used this way...windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe Using Windows update it would install.. then go the configuring on the shutdown screen once at 98%, then fuck up, 20 times now lol over trying for 2 years off and on... and it would take sometimes 2 hours to reconfigure everything and let me use my computer again... no win 7 disc probably would have tried my luck with a reformat... which I've never done before, and getting all the right windows drivers will be a pain. lol need a 1tb external drive for all meh shit...
this too... :/ tried everything but a few.. number 5 scares me lol..... this being my 21st time not sure if I should bother or not... My win 7 is genuine bytheway...lol. Got the computer from IBUYPOWER and they didn't give me a win7 disc...its a great comp though i.5 2.7quad, 8gbRAM, R5870 1gb.. I know it will run the game but if my drivers are to old.. and sp1 will not download guess I screwed... I remember the day SP1 came out and its never installed 100% this shit really shouldn't be this bad... I do love win 7 though.

Check my post above. You should reformat a pre built anyways, they always come with bloatware and other garbage.

Sup? :)

Shit like that makes me sad.

BioShock: Infinite

7777tapjw.png

I already know Infinite is a gazzillion times better than TR. Watch 2K closing Irrational Games if this game bombs :( We can't let that happen, we just can't! Irrational doesn't make 0815 shooters, they always make something special and i have no doubt Infinite will be any different. I seriously think this could be the best FPS game this decade.

how can you KNOW Infinite is good?

I'm going to be in gaming heaven in March

@ weeks to soak up God of War Ascension, then Bioshock Infinite

So fucking good ; ;

I will make love to these game, yes I promise!

That image is misleading. Right now, it's 70 percent the way to getting the Team Fortress 2 stuff unlocked for preorders.

It's no free copy of X-COM, though...
