One month from today: BioShock Infinite

If you pre-order on GMG, you don't get the Steam pre-order rewards. I wondered the same thing, but it was confirmed on the GMG forums. I can't complain though, as I pre-ordered Infinite for £23.99 and got BioShock 1 and 2 for free. GMG are currently offering a free game with Infinite for £23.99, with a choice of 5 or 6 different games.

Thanks, shame though, really wanted XCOM. Maybe I'll get the Mafia II pack but it's 38€, not as good of a deal as the UK one.

BioInf is $45 on Steam in South American territories; SalsaShark should be able to sort you out. USD$45 is roughly 35 Euro, so as well as getting XCOM (when it's backfilled) you're also saving a few eurobucks in the process.

I'm soo excited for this game!
Me and my girlfriend set it up so we have the whole 3 days after the launch to play the game non-stop.

IGN said PC is definitly the version to go. They have nothing but praise for this game.

Also have you played Bioshock on PC? this game runs butter smooth and so will Infinite.

Well yeah, let's see in a few weeks i guess. The problem is the name "Tomb Raider" alone sells. People are like, "dude a new Tomb Raider game is coming out soon" "Oh cool will buy"

I don't know why you keep comparing those two games, but unlike many of its predecessors, the new Tomb Raider is getting a lot of love.
People aren't buying it because it's called "Tomb Raider", (I'd argue that the name actually wasn't helping the game in the first place) they buy it because it's a good game.
Bioshock Infinite on the other hand is not some kind of underdog. What I've seen so far doesn't impress me at all though.
"Best fps game of the decade"? I'd be satisfied if it ended up being a good FPS game, unlike the first Bioshock. But given what I've seen so far, I highly doubt that.
It's got a beautiful art design and will probably tell an interesting story. But that's pretty much all one can hope for. Remember, the one-two punch!

Are you guys sure that the number of preorders to get tomb raider rewards is the same for infinite? Because it could be a different scale (so the OMG TR MORE POPULAR could be a little exaggerated). Plus, the preorders will ramp up near the end like they did with other high profile games (xcom iirc).

I doubt we'll see the same fervor on GAF as we did leading up to the first Bioshock. Threads and posts everywhere just littered with "BIOSHOCK BIOSHOCK BIOSHOCK." Such an awesome time.

If this is really how big it is, cot damn

I agree, it's cool to be hyped up for a game again. I predict a bunch of nerds waiting patiently at their PC's so they can all hit the "install" button as soon as it's ready.

Anyone want to trade Steam id's?

Mine = Dylaniskillin

Anyone know how retailers in the UK will sort out pre-orders considering the game releases on a Tuesday here?

By that I mean will they start sending out copies toward the end of next week or will they send them out the day before launch?

Seems like a lot of people are buying Tomb Raider.

Max of 30,000 concurrent is a pretty substantial number.

Fun fact, 15 people are playing Bioshock Infinite right now and Andrew isn't one of them

Upon watching that 15 minute playthrough, I really like how Infinite seems to be taking a page from The Walking Dead
with the timed choices. When you're in that gift shop with all the fireworks and you approach the toy barrel, you are given a choice of three upgrades each one corresponding to a button choice: A - Melee Upgrade, X - Ice shield, Y - Sprint shoes. You can clearly hear a fast sounding ticking timer in the background.
Now, I don't know if this is still included or what, but I like it,
especially if the choices you make are permanent.

Assuming you're talking about that E3 playthrough from a couple years ago...

I could be wrong, but I believe that's a demonstration of a system that is no longer in the game. Nostrums have been replaced by Gear.

Scroll down to the "Original Concept" section.

A Vigor like Enrage is in, it's called Possession. As I mentioned previously it combos nicely with other Vigors (e.g. Shock Jockey a Patriot then Possess it and he becomes a chain lightning conduit). When the Vigor wears off, weaker foes will use their own weapons to suicide (watch for these).

My hype for this game is almost unbearable.

Damn! It seems you're right. I really liked that older idea though. It's a shame they couldn't have done a mix of both

I'm really looking forward to seeing the encounter design. A wacky toolset is cool, but if it's punitive to experiment, then it's mostly superfluous, people will just figure out what they're comfortable with and use that, but the encounter design everyone has to experience, regardless of their personal taste for experimentation.

BioShock 1 really didn't play enough with their various enemy types being in the same encounters, and/or interacting. Bio 2 did some of that near the end, and it was pretty crazy to see.

That's gonna be my jam. I always get a kick out of that stuff. Every game should have some sort of "fuck with the AI" mechanic.

I'm fine with the change.

I liked the ticking clock choice thing in The Walking Dead, but I wouldn't like it in a game where I was dependent on those choices to succeed or fail later on.

In The Walking Dead, the choices matter emotionally, but not in terms of gameplay or being able to proceed. You make a bad choice, you feel bad and move on. In Infinite you have to live with it and its consequences pervade your ability to negotiate the action in the game. So I'd want time to think about those choices.
