One month from today: BioShock Infinite

And poorly balanced skills, easily exploitable AI, the clunky UI.

It's also an easy game once you get past all of the "complexity".

Yet somehow Bioshock with all it's "streamlining" could not get this right either. No idea why the UI is clunky, you can hotkey everything and the entire system is explained within 5 minutes in a very quick tutorial that anyone can understand.

The game is also very challenging for first time players and extremely challenging on the harder difficulty modes. There is nothing that can make Bioshock a challenging game.

I'm playing through Bioshock on hard and have died quite few times. Didn't die once on my hard playthrough of SS2.

And BioShock on Survivor with the Vitas off is the only way to play that game for "difficulty" purposes. Even then though, the game becomes a cakewalk (to me at least) by the time you've reached the mid point of Arcadia.

Well if we were reviewing movies then I would care about that, but I don't. I don't need to hear a breakdown of some direct to DVD quality movie's story.

Dude... you are one of the most prominent supporters of Obsidian in GAF, in which their games are pretty known to have great story/settings/characters but usually lackluster gameplay.

Seeing you saying stuff like "I don't care about the setting/story, just the gameplay" is really weird :P

I said I don't care about some direct to DVD quality story, which is 90% of games including Bioshock. I didn't say I didn't care about story.

Yeah, unless you are a veteran player that knows the game like the back of you're hand I call bull.


Also, just because you are dying, that doesn't mean you are being challenged in a meaningful way. Current gen games have this habit of just bloating enemy HP and damage in their "hard" modes and calling it a day. So of course you will hit those moments were unless you know exactly what was going to happen next you will take some damage. That damage just happens to kill you because of the multiplier. After that it's easy to get past that section. This is trial and error at it's worst.

The challenge in SS2 was far more then that. This is why we have 1999 mode in the first place, to give those who want it, something much better then "hard" mode.

Also, Skyhooks make no sense. Anyone ever think what would happen if you miscalculated a jump and the next rail went between your legs? EH?

Or when you do successfully lock onto a rail, what kind of shocks do these things have to absorb the force and not dislocate your shoulder?

I'm so glad the alternate art exists, not just because I'm not a huge fan of the default concept, but I just realized how shitted up my PS3 version will be with "only on Playstation" and "Move compatible" and the Bio1 copy on the bottom. Looks like a GOTY cover.

Ugh, why can't they just be stickers that you can just peel off? I don't see the point in cluttering up the box art with this shit.

Ken actually explained that it had to be this way, let me quote from the back of my mind: "We have to have the cover this way, I want to keep doing these kind of games. But they need to sale, so that's why we need this kind of cover". Or something like that. At least we have reversible cover!

Dylan from Dino Crisis 2, Baird from the new Gears game (not sure if that counts)...wow, that's it other than Ken that I can think of. I keep thinking of Silent Hill, but that may be the woman from SH3.
 
I just realized my haircut is really similar to Booker's.
My freaking appearance is similar to Booker. I thought vidgames were a chance to be something fantastical.

A series history:

- BioShock 1 - Jack is generic... Well, unless the photos are a lie and he's really a disembodied pair of hands, in which case, awesome.

- BioShock 2 - THIS IS WHAT I'M TALKING 'BOUT. You get suited up in a badass robo-suit with a drill-hand. Yessssss.

- Infinite - Back to white-ass folks.

- Infinite 2 - You'll play as an empty bag of Wonderbread, billowing in the breeze.

Still missed the Duke...

I couldn't help but notice that BioInf's third reward tier dropped from 13% to 12% at some point within the past ~45 minutes.
 
Alright, so if we go at least 8% every day (11 days left) then we can reach XCom. So tell your friends to prepurchase!

Fun fact: The current average ~24-hour increase is 3.88%, though having said that there are still another ~7 hours before I note down today's increase.
