One month from today: BioShock Infinite

I wonder how long it will be actually. If it's seven or eight hours, I'm happy, I don't need fifteen hours because it doesn't have MP or whatever, but just asset wise, from what I've seen, I can't imagine they have that much material to keep people moving at a quick pace for that long. I wonder if we revisit areas often.

EDIT: Top of the page, lame, now it lacks context and looks like I'm bitching.

Ken Levine has said that it's about as long as the first Bioshock.

So, we are looking at about 12-15 hours.

20+ for me. Playing on Hard while finding every audiovox will take awhile. Also want to knock out as many combat trophs as possible in one run.

Which is basically how long the first BioShock took me.

I got a test this week, and then Spring Break next week.

The planets are aligning for perfect, uninterrupted Bioshock week.

Think of it this way, Minerva was fantastic BioShock DLC (and arguably some of the best this gen) and Levine had nothing to do with it.

=D

Good point.

This is just my opinion, but DLC is usually a very poor investment.

Consoles are a little different than PC, but for $20 I could get 4 amazing games for a brand new experience or some half-assed DLC. Which one do you think I will pick?

Quality DLC is just so rare, you tend to really hear about a quality piece of DLC because people usually get some mediocre experiences.

If you want, I just published the full BAFTA Q&A that Ken did this past Monday. It's about about 105 minutes long, and is mainly about Elizabeth and the process behind creating AI companions.

Note, there may be some slight spoilers, so if you're on blackout, you may want to skip it. The second half of the video is a Q&A as well with the audience.

Enjoy. :)

Wow, the sound booth recording session was fascinating. Awesome stuff.

I've only partially been following this game though I'm really excited to play it. One question - I see a number of different looking versions of Elizabeth, some young looking, some older. Is that because she ages in the game? Or are these iterations, and if so which one have they settled on?

Yeah, we've had some cool BioShock Infinite stuff on @IGN lately, but next week IT IS ON with BIOSHOCK WEEK. Monday starts with...you'll see

Yes can't wait.

FUCK. I WANT TO SEE ALL OF THE STUFF OVER THE NEXT WEEK BUT I WANT TO AVOID SPOILERS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.

One of the most important things I want to not spoiler is the opening of the game. I know sorta what happens, but like, I want to listen to this interview and I've already noticed that he's going through the first five minutes. BAH.

How spoilery is that BAFTA thing?

So because I didn't like the last development video there is no pleasing me?

I asked legitimate questions...

There WAS a development fiasco, accept it. Asking why Bioshock is in the title when it looks NOTHING like Bioshock is a legitimate question. I'm still waiting on answers, if you can't answer my questions then I would ask this WHY are you hyped?

I want to be hyped for this, just not seeing much to get excited about. Maybe i've missed a few things. I'll have to watch the video a poster linked a few posts back.

After watching trailers and the IGN footage, I definitely get a Bioshock feel from Infinite's visuals. However, I don't think it has to look or necessarily even be related to Bioshock 1 and 2 to use the Bioshock name in its title. I read somewhere, and this may be inaccurate, that Ken Levine said the concept for the franchise is that each game shares themes and archetypes, but isn't necessarily in the same location, or even the same game world. That's far more interesting to me than just having sequel after sequel take place in Rapture. Off topic, I actually wish they would take Silent Hill more in this direction, where Silent Hill is treated more as a state of mind, and each game centers on an emotionally damaged person, rather than all that Silent Hill lore nonsense.

Shows much more than just the opening of the game, I'll say that much.

edit: I will say, Levine warns when spoilers are coming up. Just skip ahead like 3-5 minutes.

Ah shit. I'm glad I don't go to IGN anymore. Or my blackout would never work.

Perfect for this kind of game. But this is a world where you just have to stop, take it all in and enjoy exploring every little inch. So it could potentially be even longer for many. Not to mention that it looks like it has very high replay value.

Could someone be so kind as to rip/summarise from the site and spoiler tag? :D

I'll keep it a bit short though.
Murder of Crows : unleash a swarm of crows that will attack enemies. The trap version is referred to as a Crows' Nest, which will unleash crows upon any enemy who walks across them.

Devils Kiss : is a fire-based Vigor. Players throw a fire ball that burns nearby enemies, or can create a burning trap that lights up any enemies who walk through it.

Bucking Bronco : allows Booker to briefly raise enemies into the air and hold them in place for a short time, allowing him to attack them without them fighting back.

Shock Jockey : an electric power that offers the ability to stun enemies, similar to the Electro Bolt Plasmid in the original BioShock.

Possession : gives Booker "irresistible charm" and allows him to confuse enemies into fighting for him instead of against him.
Possession only affects machines at first, but can later be upgraded to affect humans. Players can also purchase Possession for Less, which makes the Vigor require significantly less Salts to use.

Undertow : is a telekinetic power that allows the user to pull an enemy closer to them.

Charge : is a high-impact melee hit that allows Booker to target enemies at a distance and then charge toward them.

Return To Sender : absorbs incoming fire (projectiles, etc.) from enemies and allows you to redirect it.

Just start watching the BAFTA vid like 40 minutes deep. It avoids Infinite and goes into Q & A and his method etc. Really good stuff.
MY MAN. Thank you!

That's good to know. Thanks. I've seen most of the media that's been shown so far, but the closer it gets, the less I want to know. I was going to go into a media blackout a long time ago, but I sorta failed at that. Whomp.

Man, I so wish I had enough money to build a PC to max this game out. =(

I KNOW, AARRGH.

Have you seen the "Lamb of Columbia" trailer? or "the AI video with Elizabeth"? that is what Levine shows off besides that not much spoilery but very interesting i'd say. They show the many different emotions of Elizabeth, she can be sad, angry, happy, nervous, scared etc. really cool stuff.

I found the first part more interesting.

I found the first part more interesting.

Well, he didn't want to be spoiled in any way and the first part has some potential spoilerage for some if you're on a blackout.

I liked the second part more actually. Ive heard him talk so much about Infinite. I like listening to him answer tough questions about the way he works or past projects.

Yeah, I watched that. It was raaaad.

You people are really weak. Stop spoiling the game for yourselves.

Eh, everyone has different levels of spoilerage. I'd consider the game spoiled to me if I was shown crucial parts of the story or a boss battle or something. I dont mind seeing gameplay and learning about the combat and mechanics beforehand.

I am kinda strong, I have not watched the last two trailers, didn't watch the first 5 minutes, and I don't even know what the vigors are about!

I'm proud of myself. :)

They've been doing a good job with the spoilers so far. We only know about how the game begins, the Vigors, and a few of the enemies we will fight, but that's it.

I dont know if I really like the concept of Booker using
salts
to refill his Vigors
much like the EVE hypos

I mean what if they're
bath salts
?
