One step closer to hopefully being canned: Highlander remake lost its director

This happened last month, did a search and didn't see anyone post it.

Hopefully Summit cancels the remake. I don't mind remakes if they improve on the original in some way, but the original Highlander was so perfect it doesn't need a remake.

Justin Lin is no longer directing Highlander, Summit’s remake of the 1986 movie.
The studio acquired the rights to remake the film in May 2008 and Lin became attached as the director in September 2009. This past spring, however, Lin’s career went into overdrive after the success of Fast Five, and his dance card began filling up with not only a sixth installment of the Universal franchise but also with such as projects as a potential new Terminator movie.

The new timetable didn’t sync up with Summit’s desire to move sooner rather than later on Highlander, and last week Lin opted to step aside. He will, however, be involved with the project as exec producer.

Summit is now moving immediately to find a new helmer. The project is a priority for the studio, which is looking to develop another fantasy tentpole series to replace its mega-blockbuster Twilight franchise, which will wind down in 2012. Art Marcum and Matt Holloway wrote the script. Neal H. Mortiz and Peter Davis are producing while RCR Media Group’s principles Rui Costa Reis and Eliad Josephson will serve as executive producers on the film.

The original Highlander starred Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery and Clancy Brown as immortal beings battling humans, hunting down one another and collecting more power. Lambert played Scottish swordsman Connor MacLeod, Connery portrayed an Egyptian and Clancy was a barbarian known as the Kurgan. The film -- with its "There can be only one" catch phrase -- spawned four sequels and three television series.

If they want it to replace Twilight, that likely means the McCloud will be a chick and fall in love with Ramirez and not be made immortal until the third movie when they have a hybrid immortal kid that the Kurgan falls in love with.

DO NOT REMAKE HIGHLANDER

Yeah, there is absolutely no reason to remake Highlander. There's already enough bullshit tied to the franchise. It aged pretty well too IMO. It's still 80s but thankfully the fx weren't too ridiculous.

What? There is only one Highlander film. They never did anything after that. They just let it be. A perfection.

Lin's priorities should be Fast Six, and then Terminator. Maybe do some Community episodes in between. That's it.

Which seems to be what he's doing, though not the Community part...as far as we know.

Could be good, could be good. It wont ruin the original as it will always be there and still be good. Jesus Christ, why do internet nerds hate any movie that may be a remake or adaption of a work? You don't know how things will turn out.

Yeah I think he's done with the show, which sucks, seeing as he always did a bang up job (he did Modern Warfare, fer Christ's sake). I'm glad he's sticking with what has the most potential... as long as he keeps Arnie far far away from Terminator.

There can be only one.

Remaking Highlander is like remaking Star Wars, Raiders, or Blade Runner. The movie is perfect and is in no need of remaking or reimagining.
