Online Account Purging

I keep a spreadsheet of all the websites where I have accounts (to keep track of credentials as well as how many accounts I have) and recently as I was looking through it I realized how many online accounts I've accumulated over the years. Many of them I seldom use anymore so I've been going through and having the ones deleted that I don't need anymore. For example, for some of the online stores that I shop at you can shop just fine as a guest without an account so that's an opportunity to delete that account and then have less of my data out on the web.

Do any of you do this periodically? It's crazy how like every website, app, store, etc... these days wants the user to have an online account.

No, but I do purge subscription services I don't really need.

For example, for some reason, I was paying a company £3.49 a month to monitor the humidity on my testicles.

Now that I've cancelled, I find there's nothing to sweat.

I've done it, mostly for forums I'm no longer involved in. Especially forums I was involved in when young, dumb, and thought the internet was a wild west of anonymity :P

Fortunately I use a randomly generated username for each site.

Yep. I do this with websites that I no longer have a need for. Apple makes this easy since I use their relay system, email forwarding, and sign in options when I can. It's as simple as looking through a list of websites and deleting the forwarding address.

I also do this with coworkers. We have a lot of turnover in our district and once they leave, I delete their contact information in my phone. I'll never hear from them again so I like to keep things decluttered and organized.

Internet Footprint. I kill it from time to time, so I don't have to deal with an influx of "your PW was stolen" etc. I am down to 15 websites. That's all I need and I feel I may go down to 10.
