Online Java version of Lumines

Style and Music, Smoke and Mirrors?...

Seriously, I've been dying to play this, if I get a PSP over the summer this is the one title I'm interested in. I'll take this for now until I can take it again, complete with polish.

Thanks!

Neat, but it's annoying in the extreme that you can't see what piece is coming next. Is that a "feature" of the PSP version too?

but is it the gameplay minus the atmosphere?

No. You can see I believe the next three blocks that are coming.

No because the music is integral to the gameplay. Because the music dictates the flow and groove (i.e. speed and intervals) of the scanline that is tossing around the field and without it the fundamental aspect that changes it from "regular old puzzle game" to "intense zen-like rythmic puzzle game" is missing.

Good... Even from playing for a few minutes, It seemed kind of impossible to strategize much without that ability. :)

zen like? bwaha just put some good trance music on and play it :P

I've played this before. Its just not the same without the tactile sesnations and all the neat skins/effects/music. Of course, that's not all its missing. Its missing changes in bpm and special blocks, which are two mechanics that really change the game a lot. It even has a weird little glitch where if a block won't drop while you hold left or right when it appears.

Maybe you missed it when you were trying to find a way to downgrade the phenomenal Lumines, but uhm... the music is fundamentally tied to the gameplay. It is not filler. It is not "background noise." It not only dictates the flow and strategy of every skin but it is also the aural and visual experience that heightens the already fantastic gameplay to atmospheric levels.

"That's right. Version owns-the-world is already out in Japan and coming here in the US in a few days."

Sony told me to tell you the cheque is in the post.

I know. I was with you with the initial Meteos/Lumines whoring. My copy of Lumines should be here on the 25th, after I get home from work.

And noooooo claaaaaaass this weekend. Lovely. :)

Just sayin'. Version 0.2. It's like... an engine. Not a game.

What? Q is run by Sony Entertainment? I knew they weren't paying me enough money.

Also, I gotta remind myself to get a check from the "Quality Games" company. They shaft me everytime I comment on things like RE4 and God of War. I should be rich!

Dude, chill. Your being far too defensive, i never knocked the quality of the game. Its a good puzzle game to play here at work on my PC.

Hey, I'm just telling the truth. People who think this is even remotely indicative of the actual product are not only in for a rude awakening (in a good way) but will get no where in discussions being so ill-informed.

That version is fucked. It totally botches the handling of any combo more than two boxes wide. It also prematurely clears the combos that form when the erasure of lower blocks cause higher ones to drop (it clears the original combo and the newly created combo simultaneously during the same pass).

Visit Geneseo... a lot.

Geneseo is like a magical land in comparison to RIT.
Lets just say RIT defines sausage parties.

A better phrase would have been "pleasant surprise".

If you're gonna go to RIT, I hear garbage plates are rather appetizing... never tried one myself. UofR is a really really nice school tho, went there a couple of times for game tournaments.
