I have nothing else to look forward to now that Trump has won except for the 2018 midterms.

You people who want to ensure we at least get control of one house need to start early discussions with people not too familiar with the importance of these elections, especially if they grow to regret their vote for Trump in the next year, as I expect they will.

Anyway, despite what I say, I have no hope whatsoever that the democrats will regain either house. If they couldn't get it during the GE, you can only imagine how much of an uphill battle it will be during a midterm.

This is my thread to vent and gain some semblance of hope in the face of a train wreck, although I'm not sure I'll find it.

Edit: Can a mod edit the title and remove "to"? It's bothering me.

I'm very worried about voter suppression. We already saw how it effected some states just in this election.
I could see it straightening and harming dems, Minorities etc even more now.

I'm afraid people will be burned out from politics after this contested election. I'm hearing lots of "gonna take a break from politics for 4 years" type reactions today.

What are the numbers in terms of how many seats from each party are up for election?

Currently, Democrats are expected to have 23 seats up for election, in addition to 2 independents who caucus with the Democrats. Republicans are expected to have 8 seats up for election.

I hope if it does get that bad under Trump we will have a repeat of the 2006 midterms or at least take back one of the houses.

But 2018 looks so stacked against dems (I mean just look at that Senate map for 2018) that I'm afraid nothing much will change until 2020

Democrats, get to fucking work now. You guys and gals need to grassroots campaign the shit out of the midterms.,

The Dems need to organize and get the movement going like the republicans did with the tea party after Obama was elected.

There's no way the 2018 midterms are any better. Most of the seats in contention are democrat seats. And with Republicans holding all the seats of power stuff will get done in Washington and people will see the party as effective. The ramifications of their policies won't be felt by 2018 and minority turnout will be down in a midterm. The democratic party could turn things around in 2020 but I have doubts about that too.

The problem is that you're calling them mid-terms. And no one cares about mid-terms since middle school.

So start calling them Senate Finals, and you'll get a better turn-out.

It's the best idea ever!

Unless trump is a complete fuck up (and even then I doubt his base will care) democrats will be fucked in the senate.

just comparing the maps if they vote the same way its a 9 seat pick up for Repubs, and we all know dems don't do midterms
Can probably say bye to MN and NM too

My immediate reaction was to slink away and stop following politics, stop volunteering for political gains, etc. I feel like that can't be an option, liberals have to stay engaged.
