Basing it on the book universe gives them some more characters to draw from that don't appear in the show and possibly more importantly gives them a little more freedom in art direction in not having expectations for things to match the look of the show because of the license tie-in to it.

Basically, based on the books gives them some more freedom.
 
Well, this is seriously underwhelming. This show sounds bad now :/
 
Heh. I swear this place will never be pleased by an announcement again. Either cause the board spoils themselves piecing clues and this can't enjoy the surprise or the reveal will just be a logo tease and go "meh"

Just handle this event like all award shows. Don't watch live, get the cliff notes of award winners and relevant trailers. Can boil a 3 hour event down to a couple minutes and it's much more enjoyable.

Get off your high horse. People like different games and get excited by different games, and preferring to spend 3 hours waiting to see the trailers for 10 dollar downloadable titles doesn't make your pseudo-intellectualism any less pseudo.
 
Announcements look boring, will still easily watch due to quantic break, destiny and titanfall....plus new trailers for the witcher and the division.

Yeah, might just catch the Titanfall/Witcher/Destiny/anything else trailers later and do some studying instead. After looking at the schedule I feel it'd be best just to watch the highlights afterwards.

It's not hyperbole, it's not fanboy drivel. It is LITERALLY it for VGX. Spike has nothing left, nothing they can reveal tonight would fix the hole now created. There is no reason left for any one, hardcore or casual, to watch the VGX awards. Except if they want to see Quantum Break. Which will also come to youtube at some point.

Unannounced games = games that no one knows about so far ("new games" being revealed on the show) or games that have not been announced to be at the show (like a game we know about but wasn't confirmed to be on the show so far)?

Because I'd really love to hear more about the Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game (but it's nowhere confirmed to make an appearance on the show).
 
Why waste huge worldwide premieres on Indie titles? Such a letdown if those games are the ones that are used.

Don't forget Skies of Arcadia 2 and that Fire Pro Wrestling D - HD Remix reveal too. There is also Chu Chu Rocket Deluxe coming to WiiU but sssshhhhh don't tell anyone.

In an interview with Polygon GK said that they'd have the big three there (Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo). However, Sony is the only one not confirmed to actually show/say/present something so far.

Very few people here like the actual awards because few people respect the decision making of the awards.

These awards have become a venue to announce new games and that's what most of us here care about.
