Your work has a shitty network if they allow porn through the proxy. If you're connected via VPN then standard proxy filters should apply. I wouldn't worry about it, it's been setup by a moron.

Nah, probably not. I do it all the time, and I'm the IT guy. Then again, I'm sure we're not routing all internet traffic over VPN, so you might want to check on that. There's no real benefit to have all that traffic going through the office network, unless they're particularly interested in seeing what you're doing/cranking to.

someone may have mentioned it, but as long as you qrent downloading something like utorrent on the machine whilst logged in, its not an issue. most orgs wouldnt want the vpn app installed on a non work device either

going to xxx sites they dont care unless you work in a government setting where they do actually download your history on the machine you used.

protip, use edge or opera.

Depends. Usually most organisations will route internet bound traffic outside the VPN rather than tunnel it through their limited bandwidth, so it will usually bypass any proxy/filter. They don't want people from home downloading windows updates via their VPN, or incurring contention for people with GAF etc. open. That's the ideal config anyway, but lazy organisations may just blanket push down a policy via certificate and route everyone through their default filters as they count your device as on their network.

TL: DR - check your proxy settings and see what's in there. It will differ due to policy and tech staff competence.
Reality - No one is going to pick up or pro-actively scour records for a porn link in the IT. Dept. Reality is your manager will have to request a report via HR/Information Security then IT will give the report to them.

This, but there is also the possible that they've set up a flagging system, alerting then IT department when blacklisted sites are visited.

One of the IT guys at the company I work at told me they care way more about monitoring potential leaks and illegal activity (drugs, extorsions, etc) than porn.

Get CCleaner and wipe your temp history. If they ask, tell them it was a bad pop up. Run a virus scan and you’re good. Just chill, but definitely run CCleaner.

Will they know what I was doing?

Take it from an IT, we don't care that much to actually look.

If you aren't taking up too much bandwidth on the network with anything, we don't question it.

Especially if you're working from home. We understand that this shit happens, just don't fuck up the bandwidth and we don't have to waste time investigating.

Wonder if any president cranked it to pr0n while working

Probably not. People that powerful don't need to look at porn. I would bet more presidents have had sex with prostitutes or secretary's in the white house than have looked at porn. Also there is a different mindset among older people. "Only losers look at porn or touch their penis, real men get laid."

Most companies set up split tunneling so you should be good. Check if your public ip changes depending whether you're connected to the VPN or not.

I used to work for the FDIC. In a moment of total mental lapse I hit up a porn site from my work laptop.

The site got blocked but I was positive I was logged and going to get called in and fired any second.

Literally nothing ever came of it. Go go federal government inefficiency!

Ours searches for keywords and will automatically email the relevant manager the details. So yes searching Google for "Rouge the Bat getting fucked" would be reported and it would be classed as gross misconduct, you don't strictly even need to be looking at porn. It's all very great firewall of China.

Was it during working hours?

If not, just say you finished your work and forgot to turn the VPN off.
