Operation Flashpoint: Elite (xbox)

it was released in the euro-zone yesterday and destined for US shores on november 8th.

quick review: one of the best games for the pc comes to xbox, relatively unchanged (huge open areas, high unit count) and with some gfx upgrades (from the vanilla original pc game).
its a must buy.

impressions:
its great, i am very impressed with the work that BI have put into the game over the last 3 years. nothing has been left out. the draw distance is a bit shorter (perhaps its at 1km approx, as opposed to the 5km+ you can have on pc) but when you are on foot it matters not.

included with the standard campaign (over 20 missions ranging from standard infantry to armoured core, to spec ops, to air cav and close air support) is the resistance addon, where you play as a resistance leader (duh) against the soviet invaders.

the Live experience is guaranteed to be idiot free. this is not a pick up and play game. unlike GR and MC, you cant just pick up and play. there is a learning curve. not too steep, but you have to learn how to play the game.

nothing beats the feeling of taking down a Hind chasing you with LAW.

highlights:
flying a Cobra to take out a ruskie convoy.
driving in a armoured convoy taking out yankee helos
black ops slaughter missions
tank assualts
flying a Frogfoot over a town and leveling it

also, very importantly: the framerate is VERY stable. quite a surprise sometimes, especially when there is a lot of stuff going on. and i do mean a LOT.

I'm an OpFlash fanatic and the Xbox version is spot on.

Get it just to play on Xbox Live. This game rocks (as does its AI).

The game is also perhaps one of the most unintentionally funny games ever. The death cries "ACK!", "EIOOO!" or the whining "AUGGGH!" have had me rolling. One time in a co-op mission, I nailed a guy with a HEAT round from a T80 and sent him flying out to sea. :lol

its not spot on.its even better, soldiers got more polys, better textures and bumpmapping

What a surprise, I didn't know this was coming at all! And now its here...

I hope there are plenty people playing this on Live, or, will be..

Being a Mac user I missed out on OPF but this is my chance! (Now someone port System Shock 2 to a console..! )

in other opflash related news, the FFUR addon packs have been released this week and they are 2gigs of ofp goodness!

Che, xbox flash deserves a 10. make it so.

cool beans, perhaps we can organise a GAF missionfest. IU have a few missions made where heroic soviet forces have to repel an attack by the oil drinking reptisraelian US forces of doom.

I have it, but I'm not on Live again until the 360 launches. I got a new Xbox to replace my dying one a few months ago and never bothered to bring my Live account to the new box. No point in doing it now when I'm gonna have to do it for the 360 anyway. Let us know how the online portion is though.

Operation Flashpoint, damn did I enjoy the original version on PC.. I checked IGN, Flashpoint 2 is in development?
http://pc.ign.com/objects/566/566512.html
no words about a launch date I guess? Too early in development it seems.

But in the works was a sequel to the original. Unfortunately for Bohemia, Codemasters dropped the project along the way and own the rights to the name "Operation Flashpoint." Therefore, the game isn't actually called Operation Flashpoint 2 anymore and is now being called "Game 2" by the guys at Bohemia in lieu of a real game title. Regardless of the confusion about the title, the dev crew is still hard at work creating their next big wartime sim

there will be a flashpoint 2 but it's really early in development. and it's not made by bohemia.

flashpoint xbox is the first game and the addon resistance and xbox live multiplayer.
not the best visuals on xbox but great content - everyone who played it on PC should know that. framerate is good, controls are also quite good. I would recommend it to everyone who likes military based simulations... it's much more complex and sophisticated than anything else on consoles including battlefront...

Apparently one of the spastics in OXM gave this a 1 out of 10 citing it as being inferior to the first Ghost Recon and that even the PC version was inferior. :lol

Really? I know the guy who reviewed it for OXM and that'ts not really what happened at all.

Him and I go way back to when we were spooging on the PC version of the game together.

Didn't OXM give it a 7 something?

Oops it was actually XBM! :lol

so...can you create co-op missons and upload them to the people playing with you?

Yes and furthermore, it seems that it is possible to edit xbox missions on the pc mission editor and transfer them to your LIVE box. So basic xbox 'edited' missions will be superseded by much more complex user created content.

I am currently making the entire single player co-op for 4 players.

Okay...is this inexpensive and, more importantly, fun to control? I only have a vague memory playing a PC Gamer demo of Op Flash on the PC years ago... I'm kinda Jonesing for some tactical shooting action (that doesn't require me to spend money on new PC shit...so no BF2 or anything like that).

I just picked this up, and played it for a few hours last night.

Some things I like:

- Game still has the OPF charm.
- Huge environments.
- Tons of vehicles/ weapons.
- Unlimited replay value with the mission editor.
- Huge single player campaigns.

Some things I hate:

- View distance is terrible. This makes flying especially difficult.
- THE CONTROLS ARE TERRIBLE. I find moving, especially turning left and right to be too sensitive. I feel like im either running in a straight line or spinning in circles rapidly. As far as I know there is no way to adjust the sensititivy.

Overall worth the money, especially when you throw in the multiplayer content.

I stalled in my desire to pick this up due to graphics shock and the 360 launch but...I'm going to get it today. Another gamer was describing to me some of the many situations they created/found themselves in within the game already and his firm belief that if you could look past the questionable graphics that you would once again be in a game that far outpaces its contemporaries and next gen launch titles in content and gameplay. That's pretty unusual for a FPS, but I think that's the brilliance of this "old" game and one I need to go support.

I gave in and bought NG Black and MotoGP3, and now this?

SHHEEEOTTT!

I freaking loved OFP. One of my favorite PC games of all time. Why are they just now releasing this game when the 360 launch is nigh, and I have to buy a HDTV?!

:)

Before I think about purchasing this...any online impressions? Or, more importantly, is anyone on this thing online to bother? I picked up SW: Battlefront II and, man...the online performance sucks something awful.

Does this game get any better as you go along? I finished the first couple missions, but I haven't shot anything yet , and just drove around in a truck from point A to B.

Also, the graphics are pretty bad. Now, I realize this is a military sim, and this one's not about flashy graphics, but still. I thought I saw footage of some level where you're flying a plane shooting at tons of guys running around some airplane hangar...that's OPF, right?
