OPM: Big leap in PS3 coverage for April issue

Of course the obvious question that has been missed is: What would cause a sudden leap in PS3 coverage in the April issue? Since it releases in mid-March, something would need to happen this month.

Hmmmm...... :)

What man! 360 is 399.99 (as it should be, given the technology + inflation), and if PS3 was also 399.99 that would not be expensive considering what its tech is!
Generally, if I say something is expensive, I'm not referring to whether its worth the price or not, just that it's a lot of money. Expense vs. value

Price is the only way Sony will lose significant marketshare next gen. Surely they can't be that stupid.

Unfortunately, MS has shown Sony that people WILL pay $400....

Sony's monopoly is ridiculous....I mean wtf...X360 is already out, but I don't feel like im in next gen gaming yet, as I know a lot of companies are holding their games back until the ps3 is out. There better be Halo 3 this e3....

fyi, you are quoting for the win a post that got someone banned... might want to rethink that :)

I doubt that though, since that's par the course for next gen machines with actual good technology.

i see what you did there

yeah, but like... 399.99 is 2000's 299.99. I don't consider that 'expensive', even by dollar value. A paycheck or two if you're working for minimum wage.

499.99, now, that's pushing it. But I understand your point.

So game prices really ARE going to go up? Bummer. I guess it's a good time to pad my PS2 collection and play lots of unplayed games though.

It doesn't have to mean sales will go up to. People need to vote with their dollar here. If gamers hold out, it'll force publishers to bring prices back down. It's not we're morally obligated to fork out 60 or 70 bucks per game.

You know for the official magazine they do their best to do the PS brand no favors sometimes.

How Expensive will it be? We have no clue, but: Expensive!
Games: 70 dollars per game could happen!

I pray for MassiveAttack's immortal soul if he's wrong about this. GAF will not be kind. :lol

No, they're just honest. OPM isn't a propaganda mag like Nintendo Power is (or used to be, haven't looked at one in years).

So I was heading to bed, and suddenly this voice said to me, "somebody is talking out of their ass on GAF".

Lo and behold!

They are probably one of the more objective 'official' magazines currently on the market. They gained my respect a few times over the course of the past year especially, giving ample respect to competition and the features they excel at.

400 won't hurt Sony. 500 or whatever we want to imagine "expensive" is will. 70$ games won't help either (I don't believe this). I don't actually believe any of that.

I might be in the minority by saying this, but I would pay $70 for a game if I really thought it was worth it. I even prefer shorter games (around 10 hours), but if they really made me want a $70 game then I'd do it.

:lol i tried to warn him

the sad thing about 70 (and especially 60) dollar games is, the market can support it. i dont see people buying significantly less games cause of a price hike (as shitty as that is being on the buying end of that).

Seven days MassiveAttack.

Are Sony going to announce this show or what?

It's going to be INCREDIBLY interesting to see how Rev vs. PS3 (pretending 360 doesn't exist for a moment) this fall/Christmas season.

I think pricing is going to be a huge deal.

Rev will, at the highest, be $250, with games (I'd assume) at pretty normal price tags.
PS3 (more than likely), will be $400 at the lowest, with games at the least, $60, maybe even $70.

I'd love to see how that plays out.

I really don't mind paying $60 for a game. I used to have to do it for SNES/N64/early PSX games and I used to buy less shit games because of it. The only real problem is when you don't research a game and you wind up with Rise of the Robots 2: Resurrection. I learned my lesson.

K-K-Kutaragi? Is that you? :p

I'm not asking people to work harder or extra. I'm just talking about what I consider 'expensive.' Even 399.99 I won't buy systems at (299.99 or less for me), but i don't think it's expensive.

What the fuck is up with these jacked up game prices? In the past I would be joking if I said that Nintendo has a chance of regaining some of it's marketshare, but if Revolution's games are $10 - $20 cheaper than Xbox360/PS3 games, then they just MIGHT have a chance.

i should probably save my Nintendo rant for another thread. Let's just say that they're going to have a hard time going mainstream with that magic wand for a controller.

There's not even the remotest of speculation of anyone going to $70, so just frigging relax. The die is cast for this gen.

Depends on how they market it. If they play on the intuitive nature and focusing on "increased interactivity" then who knows? I, unfortunately, currently work for a game store, and in my experience, marketing does wonders for game sales, even if the game is complete trash. NBA 06 (featuring The Life) sold in droves because of Sony's hilarious commercials. Who says some ingenius marketing on "expanded interactivity" won't boost Revolution sales?

I don't expect much, to be honest. Magazines' love to make big claims. They'll just say "whoops, that info we told you we had, due to it arriving when the magazine was ready to print - expect it next month" and in the May info "exclusive: heres what the drunk at the busstop told us will happen at E3 [....] come back next month for our big E3 blowout!"

Someone has to say it...you deserve a ban if you're lying. Its now closing in on 4 weeks since you said it would be announced and 1 week 'til the event arrives. Its almost as intolerable as nighttrain pre-E3. Almost.

I agree, sometimes though, official magazine or not, I can remmber rolling my eyes internally over some the of the hyper negative slants of perticular editorials and colums within the magazine. I might re-read a few of the issues so I can actually cite some examples, but there are times when they come across as doom and gloom for the Playstation, in situations where sucha thing is absurd.

Isn't any date before 2007 'sooner then you think' in this case though? March is impossible, I'd say spring is more likely, few months after E3 or something?

I hope it's really good, and I hope theres a converter so I can use a Xbox 360 controller on the PS3!

Fuck no, it won't be March. That would be stupid. Sony needs to give consumers time to soak up all the details and make up their minds about whether or not they want a PS3 the day it comes out.

I'd be very happy with the euro-equivalent of $70 games :lol Most 360 games so far are over €70 ($83) here, some even over €80. Although I know the best I could expect would be €70 games if they were in fact $70 in the US :/

Nighttrain was just fucking with Ninty fans, and, quite frankly, everyone does that here. Now, he's fucking with the Sony faithful, they will have their revenge if nothing is said soon

Fortunately most game prices go down pretty fast. I almost allways buy games when they are cheap... There are only 2-4 games I buy at full price each gen or so.

This is ridiculous. Sony's first party stuff will likely be in the same price range as MS' stuff ($50-$60 USD). Third parties can do what they think they'll get away with. Like the X360, I could see collector's editions/special editions/etc. fetch for $70 USD, but I think it's pretty safe to assume that what you're seeing on the X360 is what you'll see on the PS3, as far as third party software pricing is concerned.

The system price...hmmm...I still think Sony's gonna launch at a higher price point than the X360 Core pack for its own base model.

Shompola said:

I wish I had restraint like that. However, since I place a premium on online play, I need to get it first day to play with others and we start off equals before someone ultimately starts wrecking shit and rocking everyone's ass online.

That's no surprise, 399.99 is precisely what the PS3 should be priced. It's anything above that would be terrible.

Does MassiveAttack have some infos or what? I mean, he seems so sure but he keeps saying "wait for the next week bla bla bla..." and nothing has happened yet, so what now?

I don't know. I'm sure someone could answer that though. I've wondered this too. I swear this is like Pre-E3 Johnny Nighttrain though.

Fuck higher game prices. Only way I would pay $70 is for collector packs, etc.

They pull this shit then they are just asking to drive the used game market popularity up. I sure as hell will make sure to buy more games used. I can wait.

I'm not buying the 70 dollar games comment from them. No way would Sony charge 10 bucks more for games when multiplatform games are available cheaper on their competitors console. Even exclusives would be cheaper compared to theirs. They aren't stupid, they know the power of having a cheaper game library with their 20 greatest hits and undercutting games compared to N64.

Having paid these insane prices already for games back yonder this has been wonderful to be paying the prices we are nowadays. 60 dollar games are not a big deal to me, but I understand where others are put offish by that. A 20 dollar increase is too much right now.

What happened with this guy (Johnny Nighttrain)? I wasnt there last year...

He basically presented himself as "teh insider" and led Nintendo fans along believing there'd be all sorts of stuff happening at E3 regarding Rev etc. but then obviously very little actually happened.

I don't know what the story with MassiveAttack is. People listen to what they like to hear, on the one hand, but that can be tricky when you've no idea really where that's coming from. Personally I'd stick my expectations to what's been officially announced - the next date on the calendar is GDC. If anything else happens in the meantime it'll be a pleasant surprise.
