I'm not sure if this is too soon or not soon enough... depends on what she does afterwards.

I never understood why millions of people would listen to her eveyday. So long, farewell, and stop telling people what to do, Oprah.

It happens on every community, housewives give each other advice, and often have a leader, a woman that they, one way or the other, worship. And Oprah basically fits for that role.

Asking Oprah to stop giving advice, is like asking any housewife to stop giving advices, it just wont happen.

She's gonna be running a cable network and probably won't have time for a daily network talk show. However if it's anything like her magazine she'll still be on TV...like a lot.

Is she really ending her show for sure? I remember her saying she would stop her show before.

It better be for real, and not like sport stars who retire than unretire.

haven't her ratings been tanking lately? she might be seeing the writing on the wall and deciding to bail out before it affects her legacy.

Yeah, that makes sense...

Who announces they're 'bailing out' 2 years prior? I think you're woefully uninformed if you think her 'ratings are tanking.'

Damn this is like the end of the world. At least we still have Dr. Phil.

Wow at the misguided hate. My working black mother used to and still makes time to watch this show. So does my entire (male and female) family in south africa. She is a HUGE icon all over the world and has given hope to many people in African nations through her charity.

I grew up watching her because of my mom and I'm not afraid to say that she is usually interesting and is always altruistic in her shows and life (I mean she gives free stuff to audience allll the time). Her ability to grip an audience, have GREAT Christmas shows, and provide actually watchable programming will be missed.

Most of you guys' moms watch her and you should be instead lamenting the fact that the last quality thing your mom watches is going off the air. Now all that is left is O'Reilly and either the rest of the fox network or Dancing with the Stars. Good luck with that.

The fact that Oprah turned into such a mega-business is amazing to me. But there are people who won't miss an episode. Props to her.

It is a ploy to line up advertisers. Her ratings will go through the roof during the last season. A year to negotiate and book advertisers and guests.

I respect Oprah's success and all but she is the world's most influential promoter of pseudoscience. She has been a platform for the paranormal, psychic powers, new age spiritualism, conspiracy theories, quack celebrity diets, past life regression, angels, ghosts, alternative therapies like acupuncture and homeopathy, anti-vaccination, detoxification, and vitamin megadosing just to name a few. I'm not suggesting she hasn't ever done good things with her success. The problem is that she makes no distinction between general good advice and this quackery when extolling it to her over 100 million loyal viewers.

So, for that reason I say good riddance to her show.

My mom was watching CNN when they were announcing this and I asked her a question. She gave me an "OMG, STFU" glare :lol

Finally this bitch will no longer be on air.
What?

I'm going to guess her contribution to society/the world far surpasses your own.

Oprah gets my respect. I may not like some of the more ridiculous shows she's done but ultimately she's been a force of good.

For better and worse. See my post above.

It's a talk show, and as such was used to introduce and advocate a whole range of subjects. Some of those things clashed with my own personal beliefs, as well as those of her audience; my mom is an avid Oprah fanatic yet as a religious person she tuned out to the more spiritual stuff Oprah did. There's a general belief that the majority of her audience were mindless consumers holding onto her every word; in reality many of Oprah's more ridiculous segments lost viewers/popularity.

I think her overall influence has been and will continue to be positive.

Anyways, I never really watched her show, but I know there's thousands of people that do. Sucks for them.

I agree with this, and similar, posts in this thread...I don't get the hate. Sure there's some stances/topics to disagree about, but actual hate? The sheer scope of her generosity and charity is amazing. From grand gestures such as her schools in Africa, and giving every member in her audience a car(which wasn't a frivolous giveaway, every person was chosen because of their NEED for a car as a UTILITY, from needing to take their kids to and from school, to getting around town from interview to interview trying to get a job, etc), or helping to build houses after hurricane katrina, to one-on-one gestures such as offering full college tuition and room&board to a struggling homeless young woman who was forced to sleep in a car and had to drop out of school. Plus she's extremely generous to her employees, she's taken the whole production crew on an all-expenses paid vacation to Hawaii.

Her charity also causes a domino affect...plenty of times companies have gone on her show to donate goods and/or money to certain individuals or causes...and she's also motivated regular average joes(and janes) to donate through her Angel Network. I remember helping my Mom lug a heavy ass load of pennies to a local mall where Oprah made an appearance for the donation drive. The place was packed with people, and eventually there was so much money donated that one of the sides of the bin had shattered.

I'm hardly a diehard fan of the show, but even a casual observer has to acknowledge the sheer impact she has on several important causes. It may not mean anything to you personally, but plenty of people AROUND THE GLOBE have had their lives profoundly improved due to her giving nature...and that's a bad thing because...?
