Oprah staged an intervention for Jamie Foxx

During the 2004-2005 awards season, Jamie Foxx was having the time of his life as rave reviews of his Ray Charles biopic, “Ray,” and a Best Actor Oscar nomination catapulted his career.

“I’m having such a good time and I’m not knowing I’m f–king up,” Foxx shared on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM show Tuesday. “I’m drinking … I’m doing every f–king thing you could possibly imagine.”

But his hard partying came to a screeching halt after Winfrey phoned the actor.

“‘You’re blowing it, Jamie Foxx,’” the 49-year-old remembered Winfrey telling him. “‘All of this gallivanting and all this kind of s–t, that’s not what you want to do … I want to take you somewhere. Make you understand the significance of what you’re doing.’”

In an effort to get Foxx on a better path, Winfrey organized a meeting for him with several legendary black actors at Quincy Jones’ home.

“We go in the house and there are all these old actors,” Foxx said. “Black actors from the ’60s and the ’70s. Who look like they just want to say, ‘Good look.’ They want to say, ‘Don’t blow it.’”

He finally learned the gravitas of the situation after meeting Sidney Poitier, who is the first African-American to win an Oscar for Best Actor.

Poitier apparently told Foxx at that crucial meeting, “‘I want to give you responsibility … When I saw your performance, it made me grow two inches.’”

At that moment, Foxx says, he broke down.

“To this day, it’s the most significant time in my life where it was, like, a chance to grow up,” Foxx said.

Foxx went on to win the Academy Award for Best Actor — the third ever in history.

And now he's hosting Beat Shazam and being visibly high at video game press shows with Zac Efron.

He blew it.

I really hope Baby Driver helps his image.

Probably should've staged another intervention after agreeing to take on this role:

He is doing fine honestly. Horrible Bosses put him back in the limelight. Every celebrity seems to host a game show here and there. It probably is a good solid paycheck for not a lot of work.

Bizzare oversimplification of one of the most successful careers in Hollywood.

Jamie Foxx is not in the limelight.

Playing the lead villain in the most recent Spiderman film isn't in the limelight enough?

You guys realise that just because an actor might not have the filmography of someone like Tom Hanks or Tom Cruise that doesn't automatically render them a washed up chancer within the industry?

Jamie Foxx is not in the limelight.

Put him back in the scene at least. He does have a couple of decent movies nothing crazy. Not like he went all Cuba. Spider-man and Rio are probably for his kids.

Is the game show even real, or is it going to be fake like that one where they drop the ball down the pins, or Deal or No Deal?

To me, hosting a fake game show is quite a fall for Foxx, who is a legit great actor when he wants to be.

It is a summer time game show where people have to guess a song before the app. Simple money.

Eric Marlon Bishop is doing just find by all standards. Get we get another R&B album Eric? Maybe bring back the TV show. Is Garcelle still acting? Bring her back as Fancy!

Doesn't this story kinda confirm The Chappelle show conspiracy that Oprah and a powerful group of Black Celebs invite people to 'mend' their ways or get blackballed...

Bizzare oversimplification of one of the most successful careers in Hollywood.

You are TRIPPING if you are going to try and convince anyone that Jamie Foxx has one fo the most successful careers in Hollywood. He hit gold with Ray and was never able to
recreate that proformance ever again. SmokeyMcPot is right in saying that Horrible Bosses, that fucking b list comedy that wasn't worth anyone's time, was the thing that pushed him back into the spotlight. He wasn't good in Spiderman, he wasn't good in AMWTDITW, he wasn't good in Annie. He's just there.

You guys realise that just because an actor might not have the filmography of someone like Tom Hanks or Tom Cruise that doesn't automatically render them a washed up chancer within the industry?

His filmography over the past decade, which is a bunch of kids movies, bad comedies, and bombed dramas are why I say he messed up. Ray was great. Law Abiding Citizen has its moments. I even kind of like Collateral.

But let's not start thinking that Jamie Foxx is doing well right now. He's not. And the movies he's in preproduction for do not instill confidence. The most exciting role he has is his place in Baby Driver and even then, I don't know how much screen time he's going to get.

I'd rather see Eddie Murphy in a role over Jamie Foxx at this point.

So it's a glorified advert for a mobile app.

He must really need the money.

A mobile app rendered obsolete by google almost 7 years ago.

Wait, he is?

Scientology's head honchos been trying to split them up. Their poster boy (Tom Cruise) is now without a reproduction vessel. His contract with Nicole Kidman completed. He tried to sign deals with Jessica Alba and Scar Jo but they declined. Katy signed a deal for a kid and some movie roles once when was done she decided to leave. This is not a good image for scientology so she will pay for her transgression. She has failed the First Dynamic of Self and the Third Dynamic of Group Survival.

She's the wife Cruise deserves, but not the one he needs right now. Scientology will hunt her. Because she can take it. Because she's not our hero. She's a silent guardian, a watchful protector of Suri.

No kidding. I saw the 1961 movie version of A Raisin in the Sun recently and he is utterly incredible as Walter.

I mean, he should be, considering he was Walter in the original stage play performance of Raisin.

I still watch "They call me Mister Tibbs" once a year.

You're moving the goalposts now by trying to make this about whether or not he was any good in the high-profile movies he was in, which isn't relevant at all to a lot of the high profile stuff he's gone on to do in his career. Again, he played the lead in one of Quentin Tarintino's most popular movies, played the main baddy in the most recent Spiderman movie and he's currently playing a main role in Edgar Wright's new film.

If you can't even judge that to be the result of a successful career, I can't help you.

His successful performances/movies have been very spotty, but they're there. That said, anyone pretending that a hosting gig on a branded game show isn't a real low point is fooling themselves.

Jamie does a lot of things. Makes music, does films, exec produce shows etc, So a game show is not out of the realm for him. On his old radio show he used to discuss how he would plan out his year in terms of work.

His also exec producing that TV show along with Mark Burnett so a lot of money would be on the table and it's based in LA where he already lives so it's easy money for him. Could probably do a raft of shows over a week or so.

Also having Foxx means other big celebs will come onto the show I saw Snoop Dogg and Mariah Carey in the clips.

Its not like he anywhere close to B list tho

He's doing just fine, it's bizarre that people think he's washed up. Now if the Black Crusaders could just get him to stop using an N64 cart to draw his hairline, he'd be all set.

I wonder if Poitier would've got to six inches after seeing someone rejig their entire career with the ACS OJ miniseries.

Paulson was the shit
