Origin Thread of trying to get EA games for free

Just wondering, besides the typical EA hate, what are the actual reasons so many people are so negative on Origin? Anything I should be concerned about?

I don't hate it. I just think Steam is a better service. The more Steam-like Origin becomes the more I'll be interested in buying games on it. Right now, the only reason I buy games on Origin is if 1.) I can pick up a cheap key on Amazon (since Origin never seems to put any of their DLC or games I actually want on sale, at least not to the degree that Amazon and Steam do), and 2.) if I can't find the PC version of the game anywhere else (e.g., Dead Space 3).

Bottom line is that I simply don't trust EA with access to my PC/ccinfo/personal info. Time and time again they have also started the most anticonsumer policies in the industry and there are simply too many good games to directly give them money over anyone else. At this point if I'm interested in an EA game it comes from gamefly or a 5$ used sale or I just skip it.

I do enjoy steam a great deal but also have a bunch of drm free games right from the devs site which is by far my preferred method of buying games.

That said I didn't come into this thread to troll but out of curiosity of EA did anything about the 20$ off everything exploit, but I figured I would answer your question as well.

Its a decent little service, and the Mac client on the way has me excited to never fucking use Gametree again as a download service for mac games.

wtf is going on?

IT'S A DD SERVICE EA, YOU DON'T NEED DISC's

Other thread people are talkign about games not working as well.

Curious to see if these are isolated or if EA is actually canceling the games.

I guess I'll try Crysis out too. That was one of the few I got that I actually wanted to try out. Would be a shame if my free game didn't work.

I could have gotten so much more than I did. Still got about 16 games. On Friday night I had so many in my cart but decided to split up orders, and after my first the coupon stopped working for awhile.

I did not pick up bf2 or bf 2142 but since I owned both at one time, I should be able to just find the client and log in right?

Hey guys, I want to get achievements on the dragon age games, how would I do that since I have the download codes?

Based on what I've played:

Medal Of Honor: zzzzzzz, almost feels like I paid too much
Shift 2: Pretty solid
Red Alert 3: Great, full co-op for all three campaigns is awesome

Fifa 11 is surprisingly fun, in fact, incredibly fun. Most fun I've had with a sports game since I first bought NHL 09 and played with my brother.

Dragon Age: Origins/Awakening just makes me sad at how much potential was wasted, but it's great on PC, much better than 360, runs and looks better as well. And dem mods.

Mirror's Edge is alright, I can't imagine playing with a kb/m though, I was honestly expecting it to be better, maybe I'll have more fun in the time trials.

Battlefield 2 is just as fun as it ever was, great that I get a new copy after I lost my discs years ago. Hopefully DICE does BF4 justice, but I doubt they will.

And Dead Space 2 is stuck an activation loop.

I reckon Mirror's Edge controls best with a mouse and controller :P
analogue movement is so good with that style of character motion.

edit: might want to mention in the OP that older games like Crysis, Mass Effect and Dead Space won't transfer keys from Steam.

I regret not getting DA2 for shits and giggles.

I felt the same way when I tried DA:O. I enjoyed it, but it was lacking everywhere. Never bothered to buy it after but now I'll jump right into Awakening eventually. I don't know what mods my friend had but he had some sweet non-vanilla stuff. Definitely had a cool mod scene.

Mirror's Edge is all right? All right? They didn't make it for you! In all seriousness, though, it controls so well with M/Kb. Give it a shot. I should've double dipped for the DLC - apparently the Steam version doesn't allow you to view cd key to activate on origin.

edit: oh shit, I don't know what happened but I was met with a "Not connected to Origin" message just now. When I selected "go online" I held my breath...but it's all still there. Thank goodness.

I'm in need of a few more Origin FIFA 12, C&C3 friends. If not, I could use a few more contacts for BF3. Same ID as my Steam.

Well, hot damn! If I calculated correctly I received $595 of free games.

Honestly this whole ordeal has rubbed me the right way, like when I play off-road racing games with the controller in my lap. I do believe I'll be actually paying-buying games from Origin in future.

LiquidMetal I'll play some C&C3 and FIFA 12 with you sometime! I don't have them installed right now (I think I'm running out of bandwidth lol) but I'll add you. I plan on downloading C&C3 overnight, anyhow.

You will spend more time downloading than playing. Was not my cup of tea.

Dunno, I enjoyed the first game and also the mass effect series which I heard the 2nd one is kinda similar too in some of its role-playing mechanics.

I guess playing it LTTP, without the pre-release hype and having heard bad things about it might make it a pleasant surprise when I play and like it.

Or maybe you'll be right and I'm going to drop it like an hour after playing it :p

Don't forget to download the 1.04 patch and the high-res texture pack.

Also, I will never understand why Bioware doesn't allow PC gamers to use gamepads. It's so amazingly annoying.

Thx for the heads up. Too bad about the no gamepad support but not to annoyed about it.

So for people who got Crysis, what's the recommended / best way to play it? I've heard that various configs / mods make the game look and perform far better. I'm thinking of using CCC 2.21.

I will preach how crappy dual analog is for fpses but its really fine for mirror's edge. You don't focus on precision aiming at all in that game, so its pretty fine with a controller.

Is there any way to see all of the games in your Origin account without actually loading up the client? I'm on OSX right now and don't want to boot up bootcamp just to update backloggery. I've tried looking on the website but I can't find anything that shows me the games I have.

Try here. It just for your order history you can check. Not ideal but it should give a look.
