How in the sweet fuck can you ignore Dennis and Dune for best Director, that film was simply incredible and it was all down the director

Yeah, reminds me of 2010 when King’s Speech won Best Director. Never mind it winning Best Picture (I mean, I thought it was a pretty good film at best, but to each their own), but the directing of the film was definitely nothing noteworthy. And this was a year where David Fincher, Christopher Nolan (who wasn’t even nominated), Darren Aronofsky, and the Coen Bros. all had films in the Best Picture nominations. Fucking amateur hour right there.

I heard about the japanese movie Drive My car, apparently its a slow type of movie but really great. Want to see it. Other than that, no idea about the rest. Give everything to Dune, and wait for journalists to call Oscars racists again.

Dune has the most nominations, and Denis was snubbed.
Agreed. Dune's directing was absolutely top notch - a true masterclass in film making from the first frame to the last. I suspect Dune will be getting stiffed on most of its awards on the night.

I am pretty sure the Directors Guild is the only group that can vote for the best director award. So their peers chose Kings Speech over David Fincher and Christopher Nolan.

Power of the dog sure has a lot of nominations. Guess I need to see it.

But yeah, Dune needs to win a good portion of those. Probably won’t win best picture because that’s just not what those Hollywood jackoffs go for things like this.

And yeah…. That’s about all I care about the whole thing.

Having Don't Look Up nominated for Best Picture is the Academy screaming from the rooftop, "yeah we're liberal as fuck, so what"... Of course it was a hit among that writers guild.

Dune should win every category it's in.

Actor Oscar Isaac was interviewed shortly after a confusing post by Neogaf user ZywyPl today in which he insulted all of the Oscars of the world but then immediately rallied for Dune, starring Mr. Oscar Isaac, to win every award. The actor attempted to unravel and comprehend the contradictory, borderline insane statement but unfortunately after many overly long hours things did not go well:

Man I might have watched even less than last year. Once I catch up I'll only have seen like 5 movies on this list.

Tried watching Power of the Dog as I'm a huge western fan and it got good reviews but I couldn't get through it. I'm not the type of person to turn a movie off either, Power of the Dog was just one of the most boring movies I've ever seen. Couldn't keep my attention. Don't get what everyone was smoking when they watched it. Villeneuve was robbed not being nominated. Also find it funny that We don't talk about Bruno wasn't nominated for best song with it going to number 1 on Billboard.

Not even a nomination for Titane in best international? What are people smoking?

Mostly watched horror and shlock last year so no real opinions outside of "the Oscars are always bad". No Time to Die had a great theme, Dune should (and will) scoop a lot up.

Titane was definitely something of a film! I agree it should be there… it seems the Oscar’s are going more traditional and going after movies that please everyone?

Snubbing Villeneuve for Best Director has to be the worst in recent memory. I've been "into" the Oscars for probably ~15 years now and this is easily the worst snub since I've been following it.

The Oscar awards each year are getting worse.

So they guy that finally succeeded in making a great movie out of the the unfilmable book, doesn't even get a nomination for Best Director for Dune? I guess Jane Campion just has to win.

Fun fact: from the best supporting actor field, Troy Kotsur created the Tusken Raider sign language in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett.

I hope CODA wins something. It was a really great movie. Had me crying at multiple points.

Man, how bummed is Will Smith to have to go up against Denzel Washington?? On the one hand Denzel has some wins so maybe they will take pity on Will but on the other hand Denzel needs that third oscar to break into the top ten of all time list and he is running out of time. But on the gripping hand I haven't seen any of the films the best actor or actresses have been in and only 2 of the best film so this year I am particularly unqualified to comment.

Try King Richard and Macbeth. Both are really great! And try CODA too! You'll be crying happy tears!
