I feel kind of dumb for asking this, but...! In some of the earlier bits, I see a wheel that I can spin, and a blue circle is closing in on it. What the hell do I do there? Spin it until it maxes, what?

There's a meter in the background you need to fill up. Quite hard to miss it actually.

If you keep spinning after you fill your meter, you can rack up some bonus points (1,000 extra for each rotation IIRC).

If you spin it within the circle closing in the meter goes up faster.
