Bit of a tangent, but which actor sums up the 80's the best?
Surely its Arnie! His film category in the 80's is insane how many classic action films he was in!
Honourable mention to Bill Paxton, been in ever Best franchise of the 80's terminator, aliens, predator ( grant he was in the sequel in the 90's, but still, what a resume)

Most iconic actor of the 80s has to be Arnie. Terminator 1, Predator, Conan, Commando, The Running Man, even Total Recall should count (its 1990 but it was filmed in 89 so it contains fashion, ideas etc of the 80s still). Thats an insane output.

mentioned Bloodsport, thats the movie of my childhood, I still watch it each 2 years or so. I just cant put it in a top with a straight face, but I do get it, it does have top music at the very least, I still get chills when the music starts while hes riding the bus after his friend get destroyed in the ring and then they show that Hong Kong vista.

Those are some good shouts. The Breakfast Club is one of my rewatched movies for sure. Love the dynamic between the characters. John Hughes was a genius when it came to that. Ferris Bueller is also great, pretty deep movie underneath it all. He was great at doing comedy, but at the same time having these really deep & moving moments in his films. This part is great in Breakfast Club:

Fun Stuff:
- The battle between Aliens and Blade Runner was exciting! For most of the thread Blade Runner was ahead, but Aliens eventually won out by dint of it being very high on the top-5 list of anyone who mentioned it (usually first or second place)
- Back to the Future and The Empire Strikes Back only cemented 3rd and 4th place after a relatively late surge in votes - prior to those votes, it was looking like The Shining (30pts) was on track for a well deserved top 5 finish.
- The Allied NPC award for most topical, but least impactful, vote goes to

who voted for a number of contenders, but whose voting order ensured that none of them overtook any of the others.
- The Sonnofabitch Award for solidarity goes to

for joining me in recognizing Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade as our favorite film of the 80s. Few others qualified for this award. I am glad to announce however that Crusade won the Indiana Jones mini-poll with 15 votes to Ark's 14.
- The latest mentioned film to garner a lot of votes was Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, mentioned in post #43 by

and going on to gather 13 votes.

I was expecting better performance from Ghostbusters and The Terminator. I was sure one of the two would be in the Top 5. Maybe in the Star Wars spot.
Wasn't expecting Aliens to be No1 also. It's a great film but i was expecting people who prefer the first movie to not give it many votes (or at all).
Who Framed Roger Rabbit is my favorite movie of all time. But i was expecting the few votes. It was a "one hit wonder" and then nothing much came out of it. Roger didn't even become a popular cartoon character himself. So it's not the kind of movie that gets talked about as much as the others. Especially since movies like Alien, Star Wars, Predator, Back to the Future, etc, got sequels or are still active and became big franchises, we even had a new Blade Runner movie recently. Roger is the only one of the bunch that never got a single sequel.
So That's why i posted it in bold to make it visible, since nobody mentioned it before my post, i figured people just don't remember it.

Very thoughtful of you! I've seen it once, i definitely enjoyed it but i think i came to it a bit late in my life and it failed to delight me like it might have others. The goonies suffered the same fate, for me. Great movie, but i didn't see it until i was around 30, so i didn't have a kid's imagination up for the capturing.
