Off to a credit union I guess.
In the process of moving my Wachovia accounts to the credit union. Gotta do it before the cutover next month.

Oh okay, wasn't sure about that.
Before the Frank-Dodd Act banks could set their own transaction fees.

Businesses complained because that was eating into their profits. They lobbied hard to have the fees capped, arguing that they'd be able to pass those savings along to the consumer or use the extra money to hire more workers.

Ha ha ha. Ho ho ho.

Joke was on us.

I have been with Wachoiva for 14 years now, and this will be what makes me switch. If it stays in just the states listed I am fine since I live in CT, but once it goes nationwide I am so gone.

Come on over, and get a Chase Freedom credit card too.[/QUOTE]
Just closed my Chase account. They suck too. The only thing I miss is the check deposit system, but I rarely get paper checks these days anyway.

Yeah - that was definitely an area where the invisible hand would have actually worked. If it would have continued to progress, they would have passed specific charges onto debit/credit card users (many stores do this already) and the usage would have declined and the situation stabilized. This was a scenario where both actors in the market could have reacted to any change in conditions. Consumers were going to get screwed in either event so the act didn't do anything for them.

Community credit unions guys and gals.

Fucking nailed it.

My credit union's board tried to get itself bought out by a bank.

Needless to say, none of that board is still around.

Such good service and such low fees.

What the heck kind of sucky test marketing is that?

I remember test marketing used to mean a cool new sandwich or something.

This is beyond stupid & I'm assuming it's in response to the debit card fees being slashed & seeing if they can recoup the money.

Shit. I'm in Georgia. I wonder how the picked the states anyway. It seems random. And I wonder if "select accounts" include student accounts. I can only hope so.

I'm starting to see my mom was right about the Wachovia buyout. $3 isn't much, but I'm afraid it could lead to much worse. I'm not very knowledgeable about banking, but even I can tell this reeks of them wanting more money.

Basically the test is "will people care if we screw them?" Honestly if I see that appear on my bill I would change banks.
