Overwatch: Year of the Rooster Event is live (Jan 24th - Feb 13), has CTF Brawl

Got my Winston Monkey King suit.

Pharah was great for the outdoor CTF map. Grab the flag and rocket the hell outta there.

I guess they changed their mind on not doing CTF then? I seem to recall them saying they wouldn't add it as a mode because the game isn't balanced for it at all.

Funny reading those D.Va changes too, I haven't touched Overwatch for a while but last time I played I read patchnotes stating almost the exact opposite of what these are saying. Classic Blizzard balancing.

Ended up buying 50 loot boxes. I was really lucky this time. Got both of Mei's skins and got Mercy's skin twice in a row. Pretty got all the skins except for Reinhardt, Zenyatta, and Dva. Spent my credits on Dva skin afterwards.

It's not really balanced. Most of my games have been draws.

I think a huge issue is the fact that you have to fracture your team between defense and attack all the time.

I just realized something. Everytime Blizzard does these events theres a group of people who spend $40 on loot boxes. Everytime. Damn.

I spent $40 on the first Summer Olympics event but that was it for me.

It's arcade-only for the forseeable future because it's not balanced at all.

They were right.

It's pretty bad.

I uh, well okay then. I guess they should have followed their own advice. Lol.

It's awesome because those people
me included
allow us to keep getting free stuff.

Yea, I can't even dive on Zen reliably right now, and people are NOT DYING,I can't damage them from certain distances anymore,I thought they gave her more bullets, but my accuracy has been about 13% lower than my career average so far. I can't hit these people lol
The more pellets per shot is actually a nerf.

She shoots 3 more pellets per shot but the pattern of the pellets are more spread out now which makes it harder to smaller characters or at range.

Also, the damage drop off after 10 yards was also nerfed and Blizzard responded that it was unintended but didn't say anything on it afterwards.

She also had an 8% damage nerf based when all pellets hit, however you are now generally doing even fewer damage to smaller targets due to the increased pellet count and how the spread works.

More specifically, in practice, her damage drop off is much worse to the point she does ~68% of the damage she used to past close range. So she's had her durability nerfed heavily AND has to be closer to do worthwhile damage (and, by extension, "just walk backwards" is an easy counter to her again). She's completely dumpstered against decent players right now, especially given she feeds way more ult on top of building her own slower.

I don't get why yoi would nerf her damage AND her ability to absorb damage effectively at the same time. It doesn't work. Now she's just completely broken and useless.

I played DVa a lot when she was OP, it was obvious they buffed her too much and in turn was going to get nerfed hard next patch.

Oh well, back to Reinhardt/Zarya/Roadhog for my Tank picks.

The problem with Jeff's reasoning in the developer update video is that yes, it still feels like Overwatch, but it also feels like a bad CTF.

(Also, the fact that players usually lose some abilities while carrying the flag was always a plus to me, not a minus, because it makes being the flag carrier more tense and satisfying, so their removing that feels like they missed the point of CTF)

Why would they release CTF in that state is beyond me. If it doesn't work, make something else. I guess they went :

"Oh shit guys, this mode suck ass and we have 2 weeks left, what do we do?"
"What do you think we can do? We're stuck with it."

I have yet to see a single flag carrier die unless they are just painfully stupid. Nobody can run one down.

Isn't that the definition of CTF or is me thinking that why I'm bad at the mode? Lol

Not with this type of ruleset. Defense doesn't have to worry about moving or flankers so they can just bunker down. If you can cheese getting the flag once it feels easier to just run down the clock than to try to go for it again.

Well, now she doesn't have the health or damage to be versatile in any situation.

It doesn't matter who you "dive" onto she either won't be able to kill them or survive their counter attack.

You can pretty much take anyone else and do a better job.

So, no, this is not what she needed.

The damage nerf wasn't needed, instead they should have incorporated an energy bar to force a cool down. That was the problem with her damage output, no reload vulnerability that everyone else with a gun has to deal with (Hanzo has a low fire rate to offset his lack of a specific reload window and Rein has no range).

An energy bar that would run out after a few seconds of persistent fire and recharge in about 2/3rds of that time would have been enough to put her in a more honest damage standing with everyone else.

And the health re-balance should have started at 300/300, not straight to a juxtaposition of the unbalanced 400/200 to a 200/400 ratio.

Eh, I'm enjoying CTF. Enemy team can hunker down all they like, I'll roll up with my attacking team and my Sombra and hit an EMP. GG.

Really loving capture the flag with Mei, that ice wall sure comes in handy

In other news you level so damn slow in this game, still only level 16

I was shocked that I could grab the flag and use my full abilities. I just assumed I would have to make a straight run back and rely on teammates to protect me.

Not really feeling CTF. I'm not sure what the real problem is but I feel like the tug of war goes on for a little too long. Either that or if one team get's ahead by one point you start seeing rage quitters because there may not be enough time to get through another round.

There was one glorious match though, we were loosing 1-0 for almost all of it until the game goes into overtime or the last few seconds or something like that. One person managed to get the flag and we were able to hold off the point to grab the second flag as soon as it spawned. Dear lawd dat adrenaline rush. The next match was a 0-0 draw :(

What are people's takes on making this new Mei skin thinner because she wears thinner clothing?

I definitely see it, don't know if it's intentional, but her thighs/arms/face still being thick/chubby/fat/whatever you want to call it, when her body is basically totally slim, looks super weird, and her spine is definitely bent out of shape. I don't think the "thick coat" argument holds up in that context.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the new outfit, but I was under the impression her legs and arms are still mostly empty space in there.

See the sleeves here:

Those are also very baggy pants.

I agree it's... I mean I don't think people would wear clothes like that, but I'm assuming they want to keep her silhouette.

Skin seems shoddy. The tube is floating and her ass is at a 90 degree angle.

Plus her legs are still huge. They keep trying to make her look skinny and it doesn't make any sense with the in-game model.

Looks like the DVa nerf isn't a problem. All it's doing is forcing the player to play a little more intelligently. It was much-needed and seems fair so far.

She still wrecks every character that hasn't always countered her.
