P2P (More) Legal in France. BIG WOW.

A french appeal court ruled yesterday in favour of somebody who downloaded about 500 movies, on the ground that those were private copies, and that he didn't redistributed them, and that a tax was payed on blank media. This sets the huge precedent that P2P is legal over there. For the details, apparently no distinction was made on the method used to download the movies (upload issues) and the famous EUCD directive was even used by the defending lawyer.

Do you speak french? So, read more here: http://www.laviedunet.be/VDN/Viedunet/Societe/page_5009_310219.asp

I don't live in France so I'd feel a little silly celebrating this supposed victory over the forces of RIAA oppression, but I am shocked that the GA pro-download crew hasn't come in here to crow loudly and repeteadly abouting sticking it to tha music "man", yet

they call me "Man Gravy".

What? I mean, yeah, it's great, you can pirate stuff. Woo-hoo. Forgive me for thinking this is retarded and it sets a terrible precedent in France. I mean, for all the shitty things the RIAA and MPAA have done, giving people free reign to pirate stuff is going to do a hell of a lot more damage to the system in the long run.

Although, IMO, I agree in that you should only be able to prosecute those who upload the information (illegal distribution), rather than those who download.

I agree. If there was nothing for people to download, they wouldn't be doing it. Go after the people that actually make these things readily available for download.

I read perfect french, this is nothing knew, it does not makes piracy legal, plus major compagnies always hold the biggest handle on the stick in the end.

There have always been pirates.
Pirates who used plunder and rape women.
Now pirates who violate copyright infringment and fund terrorism.
Intellectual Property Rights are dead.
They should accept reality and sell portable players.
Or improve cinemas so that going to the movies reclaims nostlgia.

It's just like here...when they're levying a tax on blank media to cover pirating, it pretty much makes it fair game. You can't have your cake and eat it. Good for him I say.

Why do some of you support thievery? He downloaded 500 movies that he should have paid for the viewing of. That doesn't bother you? You're railing against protections against others committing the same crime against YOU. Jeez..

I think we can all agree that the raping and plundering pirates were far cooler.

I don't believe that you can steal from the thieves. Big corporations should have no rights on intellectual properties (Actually the term "intellectual property" really really annoys me). They're not the creators they're just exploiting other people's work. Also making billions on music, art, science etc etc is disgusting. All these belong to the people and the creators. And don't tell me the usual american bullshit that these companies "support" the artists and crap. No they don't. They're exploiting them. On the contrary all these companies do, is downgrade the quality and promote idiots so that they can sell to the brainless mainstream crowd, while overshadowing the true talents. I could explain many more but I think it gets boring.

Hmm. The videos I d/l are private, I never make a profit from anything I d/l, AND I pay a tax on blank media.

I want those courts over here. :D

It's not like they're not making profits. Like I said it's time for companies to think on how to sell their product better. For movies it would be reselling the 'movie experience' in theatres. For music companies it's getting their artists to actually tour and sell the 'live act'. It's time for companies to accept reality. The average Joe on the street has to.

it's a bit stupid. here in belgium we pay 60EUROCENT / DVD-R (or +) special licence TAX we buy.
so a ultralowbudget dvdr of 45cent costs 1.15euro a piece.
BUT that's doesn't mean downloading mp3's or music are legal.

they rip people and nobody is doing somting about it.

Well have they started raiding? Because to me it sounds like they're turning a blind eye to it.

What the? They should protect it adequately in the first place. I mean once it hits the web without any protection it's as if it'd hit the streets, aka free for the taking. These are the principles of an ideal world, it's nice that some nations are already abiding by the future universal laws. So long as one does not take credit for the work of another, if said work is floating freely around the web, it's free for all to use. :D
