PAL Charts - Week 1, 2016

I should have known better, but the sales of Xenoblade X just saddens me.

The game is so amazing, yet most Wii U users don't even care.

It will be hard to blame Nintendo if X2 doesn't happen or has a lower budget.

You must not be aware of its good debut in US :P

It's strange that Yoshi's New Island is so popular now, that it dropped in price, it regularly places above the other Nintendo Selects titles in the German charts, even above A Link Between Worlds (which I think is the better game, but I think YNI is a great game, too).

Germany Week 1 2016. They never posted week 53 so whatever. Last week positions correspond to week 52 as well.

Numbers in italic indicate the LTD as of December 2015 included for PS4, XBO and WIU titles from the BIU sales awards. There are no official awards past >500K and these stop being updated 12 months after a game's release date.

38 (57) [WIU] MARIO PARTY 10 (100-200K)

so....this is almost certainly over 1 million worldwide. Without being bundled to a console right?

In fact, it's likely over Donkey Kong, Pikmin, and others. :(

I know MP has always been a big seller, but tons of franchises have had their legs clipped this generation...so of all the games, this one is less affected.

dunno whether to laugh...or laugh.

If 200k is good debut then both RotT and The Order are success stories and we will be talking about their amazing performance fpr years to come.

Unless you think Xenoblade Chronicles X is a big budget AAA game like Tomb Raider and The Order, I'm not sure what on earth you're trying to prove here. 200k for a niche JRPG in the US is pretty good.

Surprised about the success of Style Savvy 2 in Spain.

I see his point. Xcx doesn't seem like a low budget game. Why would a huge open world be cheap on wii U when it wasn't on ps3/360. Just because most have low expectations of it doesn't mean it has had good sales overall.

Now if you say we don't know xcx budget then well we don't know any games budget and should just compare sales directly then.

Also I remember FF type-0 being labeled a bomb and that had better sales than xcx and no doubt a smaller budget.

According to the studio itself XCX is not AAA and when playing it you know it's not AAA.

I don't know about calling it a success without any kind of numbers. It could have sold a 1000 units to be there

Well, it's the 8th best-selling game in December in Spain... Surely it sold well - surprisingly so because I would have expected Animal Crossing being higher, for example.

Yeah not yet. Which makes me wonder if bundled copies are counted.

No Nintendo Land or Knack leads me to believe they aren't.

Whether a game is a success or a failure depends on what the publisher was expecting. A game can be profitable and still be considered a failure if the publisher was expecting even better sales. So if Type-0 bombed, it would've been because the expectations were much higher, especially since it was bundled with a FFXV demo, whereas Nintendo would've been delusional if they were expecting >200k for Xenoblade X in the US. Remember, the first Xenoblade barely even released in the US, it was a Gamestop and Nintendo store exclusive and from what I remember, shipment numbers were extremely low.

Also, the reason why most open world games cost so much isn't because they have huge open worlds, it's because they have to fill those open worlds with a shitload of content. I haven't even played the game but I've seen enough videos to know this really isn't the case for XCX. It's not a big budget game.

the game is suppose to have plenty of content, the reason its not a huge budget is probably the graphics, the level of detail is very low, compared to something like gtav lastgen.i still think it had a descent budget, just not huge. who knows what nintendo expected, you never know what niche title could be a huge hit, look at splatoon for example.

GTAV won't stop selling until GTAVI releases, which is at least two years from now.

And then Take Two will end up throwing those billions away somehow.

GTA VI Launch will be legendary.

It won't outsell GTA V lifetime, but i Can see a bigger launch.

When a Game has insane legs, This is usually what happen.

Style Savvy 2 slaying EU charts apparently. I wonder whether the game could reach a million worldwide.

Yeah GTAV had a lot of double dippers because it launched on next gen a year later.

It's not just This.
Look at the UK Chart, GTA V sold almost 1 million in 2015, and now is charting second, above Games like FIFA 16 or Star Wars...
It also sold almost 1 million in December NPD 2015.
I mean, PS4 / XB1 version now are Over 1 year old... It surely helped, but those legs are insane even with console / PC released.

I feel like GTA series is stronger than ever.

Definitely, it's probably the best selling non-bundled game ever by now (easily 60+ million).

But GTAVI will probably have a similar debut, GTA games are much more casual than whatever GAF's idea of casual is, so even after that explosive growth it still won't be front-loaded.

GAF still thinks Mario and Ratchet and Clank are casual while GTA isn't.
