Valve’s First Person Puzzle Platform game, ‘Portal 2’, returns this week; materializing at the top of the charts.

It has outdone Valve’s ‘The Orange Box’ (it contained the original ‘Portal’ game) which only got to No3 and marks EA’s 5th different title at No1 so far this year. It’s a blast from the past at No2 with Warner Bros. Interactive’s ‘Mortal Kombat’ hitting this generation’s consoles (the original game came out on consoles way back in 1993). Thanks to price promotions Activision Blizzard’s ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops’ (+245%) resurges up the chart from No9 to No3 which means that last week’s No1 505 Games’ ‘Zumba Fitness’ (+10%) is now resting at No4. Also forced down the chart is ‘Lego Star Wars III: The Clones Wars’ (+16%) from LucasArts now at No5, followed by Codemasters’ new entry ‘Operation Flashpoint: Red River’ at No6. EA hold both No7 and No8 with ‘FIFA 11’ (+39%) and ‘Crysis 2’ (-2%). Next we have Nintendo’s ‘Wii Fit Plus’ (+97%) back in the Top 10 at No9 and THQ’s ‘Homefront’ (-1%) at No10. The only other new entry in the Top 40 this week is Sony’s ‘SOCOM: Special Forces’ in at No 28.

So does the sales of SOCOM account for the period in which PSN has been down as well? I could see that as being a big hurdle, otherwise .... OUCH.

How did Confrontation do in the UK? Remember it did pretty well on NPD when it released, how did it do overseas?

It makes my heart smile to see Portal 2 on top.

360 Portal 2 beat out the PS3 version, despite Steam integration and a free PC copy? I'm not PS3 fanboy, but even I thought it would be considered the "superior" version. (As a note, I bought it on 360 to play with my friends).

Great to see Portal 2 and number 1. I hope it has long legs and stays at the top :)

SOCOM only does well in US. It bombs everywhere else.

It was on the UK charts for 2 weeks and didn't come back after that.

I doubt the average gamer cares about the PC version or even knows the PS3 version is better looking either.

360 is just more popular here.

What I'm most surprised by is that people actually thought that the PS3 version of Portal 2 would sell the most.

That, and the fact that The Orange Box sold a load more on 360, and Valve's games were then console exclusive there for a while. There's a recognition there.

Mortal Kombat sold more on the PS3, which I didn't think would happen even with Kratos

Fighting games seem to have done fairly well on PS3 overall, in many cases we have seen PS3 outsell the 360 version for various games.

And fps always sell more on the 360 so I don't know why some here are scratching their heads over Portal 2 sales. Yeah I understand the PS3 version is superior but the crowds looks like they don't know or care and the PS3 version has several reasons why it sold less, one I mentioned at first of my post, two the Valve games fanbase was already established on the 360 with the the superior Orange box and exclusive L4D 1 and 2, third reason is the larger 360 fanbase as a whole in the UK.

Homefront at #1? These days people will buy any modern military FPS regardless of quality.

The multiplayer is very good. (well for Xbox 360 and PC owners it is...)

So it's no surprise it's at the top.

Chart-Track said:
This is the last week of April and unusually, contains 2 national holidays - Easter Monday (25th April) and also the Royal Wedding holiday of Prince William & Kate Middleton (29th April).

Gamers celebrated by keeping the previous week’s new No1 & No2 exactly where they were, with Valve/EA’s ‘Portal 2’ (-51%) on top for a second consecutive week since launch and Warner Bros. Interactive’s ‘Mortal Kombat’ (-42%) remaining at No2. 505 Games climb one place to No3 with ‘Zumba Fitness’ ( -21%) as the PS3 version debuts this week, five weeks after the launch of the hugely popular Wii version – the PS3 version has not lit up the market in the same way with 10% of sales across the 3 formats. Codemasters’ new entry from last week ‘Operation Flashpoint: Red River’ (-21%) moves in the right direction, up 2 places to No4. Sega chose this week to launch two new titles – ‘Virtua Tennis 4’ on PS3/360/Wii is new at No23 but ‘Thor: God of Thunder’ fails to make an impact on the Top 40.

That's now 4 straight weeks in a row. That must be some kind of record for a new hardware launch.

Sadly, probably not the record NoE were hoping for.

Wait for Steel Driver: Renegade.

Yep, even Move did better than 3DS in terms of top 40 software legs.

Still no 3DS to be seen?

I know it's early days but Nintendo must be sweating a little bit. I'm hoping for a drop to £150 before Nano Assault is released.
I'd be sweating if I was Sony too. Perhaps this is the first genuine warning sign of people moving to iPod Touch/iPhone/iPad etc for their portable pleasures.
