As we move into the business end of the season the new releases keep on coming, with 5 entering the Top 40 this week.

We have another new No1 as Square Enix’s ‘Deus Ex: Mankind Divided’ arrives for Gen 8 consoles and PC. The high watermark for this series is currently 2011’s ‘Deus Ex: Human Revolution’ which had a much stronger week 1, but launched in to a market with close to double the current installed base of the equivalent consoles (PS3/360 vs PS4/Xbox One). Codemasters’ ‘F1 2016’ (-57%) drops to No2 after 1 week at the top and Sony’s ‘No Man’s Sky’ (-48%) drops 1 place to No3. EA take the second highest new entry at No5 with ‘Madden NFL 17’ across Gen 7 & Gen 8. 505 Games celebrate a Top 10 debut for ‘Assetto Corsa’ on PS4/Xbox One as do Koei Tecmo with ‘A.O.T Wings of Freedom’ debuting at No10, also PS4/Xbox One. The final new release within the Top 40 is Team 17’s ‘Worms WMD’ at No39. Microsoft’s Xbox One ‘Quantum Break’ is a massive re-entry at No16 thanks to retailer hardware bundle promotions (+623%).

I feel like a series of bad decisions by Square are responsible for the lower number on Mankind Divided. That, and it never felt like there was much hype.

NMS should hit about 155-160k in 10ish weeks if it's current trend of drops continues.

The second week legs are certainly less then good compared to the first weeks more standard ones.

It's so far had drops similar to a title like Watch Dogs but with a considerably less front loaded opening, which shows that WoM likely seems to be affecting the title.

Hello games must be crying into their money right now (what with all the complaints about the game). This would translate (give or take, of course) to around 1.5 million (I think?) physical sales, to which Steam and PSN sales must still be added, which brings it well past 2 million already. For an indie studio like Hello games, that is one huge boatload of money they are generating!

NMS will hit 150K next week. So over 150K after ~4 weeks in the UK, for a £45 indie title, is incredible.

Well, a much lower opening than a title launch on 4 consoles, sure.

Even with low expectations, KOF 14 debut is unspeakable. It says a lot about the state of the hardcore fighting game market and how SFV can be happy with its user base. Next we will see what Tekken 7 can do.

I hope SNK are able to make a profit WW, they really deserve it and I don't want them to go back to Pachinko games T_T

No King of Fighters 14 in top 40?

I can't see KOF XIII in any platform or all formats chart at the end of 2011.

Not surprised to see KOF XIV not feature now the fighting game wave has gone.

KOF XII doesn't feature either back in 2009 when fighting was hype. KOF is niche within a niche.

I've gone through all of the release week charts for KoF back to KoF '95 on the Saturn, and KoF has never charted once in the UK, not even in the platform specific charts.

Has KoF ever been big in the UK? I'd personally never heard of it until XIII popped up on Steam.

Edit: I guess the answer is above. Not shocked really. It charting is probably about on par with previous entries or maybe even a little better.

I think Tekken will do really well still. I think Namco are saying all the right things when it comes to the game and marketing, it'll be more of a Mortal Kombat than a SFV situation.

Fighting genre is tiny now. It's like the racing genre in terms of its decline going from the PSX to the present, only held up by a handful of big names. It'd be really interesting to explore the reasons for this in another thread (although I largely think that the immediate satisfaction of these genres is being provided by other genres that also offer other content like GTA or Batman).

If KoF couldn't even make it into the top 40, then it literally must have sold a few hundred copies. Here's hoping other territories pick up the slack or that series is finished.

I feel sad that KOF 14 isn't performing well. SNK should have never made that game console exclusive. Anyway, NMS is holding on very well.

I'm willing to bet that Tekken 7 PS4 does not outsell SFV. Maybe squeaks past it multi-format.

UK or globally?

Yeah, KOF XIV appearing today in the PS4 top 20 and all formats is actually a good thing.

I guess KOF will do okay in the US, will be very low numbers but relatively well compared to Europe.

As a youth I remember Fatal Fury, Samurai Showdown, Art of Fighting and Metal Slug. At least SS might have some novelty done right but KOF games are ten a penny and no one gives a damn.

I hope I'm not being deluded, but I'm sure that digital will probably bring in the majority of sales.

I doubt the 5 Xbox sales would have been enough to cover the port and minimum print MS requires.

It'll come to PC eventually, but I don't think the Japanese publisher and developer is too concerned about those missed sales.

Also, this is KoF. It's a tiny franchise in terms of sales. Expectations should have been very low for it. Especially in the UK where even popular Japanese IP often tank.

MCV has finally published this week's UK sales article but they didn't tell us Deus Ex Mankind Divided platform split, at least they gave us Overwatch and Uncharted 4 weekly percentage change.

Unfortunately, I can't keep tracking them because we are missing week 33, 2016 percentage changes.

04 (04) OVERWATCH (ACTIVISION BLIZZARD) [+68%]
06 (08) UNCHARTED 4: A THIEF'S END (SONY COMPUTER ENT.) [+90%]

UC4 doing really well.

You think putting it on other platforms would have significantly increased its tally? The sales difference would be negligible, and it would have added to dev costs.

People thought KOF would make the charts? lol!

Ah well, glad to see NMS do so well at least, but I'm sure the WOM boogeyman that is constantly being evoked against it will somehow turn it into an overnight failure at any moment now though, amirite?

Ah, just UK

Not here it won't be. £50... oof.

Yeah, the pricing is pretty stupid.

Those five sales would equal £250 mate. :p

You don't make your game console exclusive if you ain't going to get something out of it. It was a waste of time but hey, no skin off my bones.

I've just learnt that there's a Handball game which not only got a retail release in the UK, but it's also been a regular in the PS3 chart for the last few weeks. Olympics bump.

Edit: It even got a physical release on Vita .... the nichest sport on the nichest platform, bizarre.

Chart-Track really need to refresh their charts. PS4/XB1 only Top 20 (nearly all of which are also in the standard chart) , whilst some older platforms have up to Top 50. They're still even updating the PSP chart, even if only four games sold anything last week.

I would like to know Deus Ex numbers, cause if we assume it's a ~30% drop to Human Revolution at retail, but then there Are anothers 20/30% digital Sales, would not be that bad.

Honestly was expect at leat for me a worse launch imo.

Not sure why people thought kof would set the sales charts on fire. Wouldn't have expected it to even come close to sfv and that did pretty poor in the UK no?

Of course not, but the charts are so quiet over this period that a game like Star Ocean can chart quite respectfully, but KOF can't even break it.

I mean seriously, even the Xbox One version of Attack on Titan, which didn't even exist in the first place, charted #26. In a country where anime games are not even popular. Good luck to SNK :|

Has KoF ever been big in any PAL countries? I was always under the impression it was super niche outside of its Japan/Asia and NA fanbases.

You realise it costs a lot of money to port games to other systems, right?

I'll take that bet.
