PAL Charts - Week 41, 2015

Their name didn't hurt Metal Gear Rising. This may be more of a Transformers thing more than anything else. It doesn't seem to be a strong brand at all in Germany, at least as far as games go. High Moon's games didn't seem to do well either.

I don't think Metal Gear Rising sold particularly well outside of Japan either. The game got price cuts incredibly quickly in the UK, I know that much, and that's always an indicator that a game isn't selling to expectations. It didn't set the NPD on fire either. I remember there being an insider or someone working in the industry who expressed disappointment at the numbers it reached when the charts for that month dropped.

I think it is pretty fair to say by this stage that Platinum Games are commercial poison. They have a string of flops behind them that surely can't be equaled by any other developer. Even when they have the Metal Gear IP to fall back on they can't create a surefire hit.

German sales update

FIFA 16 - 500k (multiplatform)
FIFA 16 - 200k (PS4)
FIFA 16 - 100k (PS3)
Bloodborne - 100k (PS4) incl. digital sales
Project CARS - 100k (PS4)
Splatoon - 100k (Wii U) incl. digital sales
The Witcher 3 - 100k (PC)

There also some titles in your list (DRIVECLUB for instance) that include digital sales. But I#m to lazy to look up every title. Leaving this information out, may lead to wrong conclusions.

Is that retail-only? PC is strong there.

I wonder how much of those Xbox One consoles sold outside of Germany? I know the surrounding "Tier 2" countries were getting the console from Germany.

Supposedly a lot, but we don't have exact numbers [just annecdotal talk about many stores getting all their xbone stocks imported from Germany]. Tier2 launch in scandinavia/benelux was almost a year after console came to Germany [tier1].

Drake collections is the official bundle of the season for PS4 so its first week sales are no cause of concern.

They should have included some of the coop sections of Uncharted, especially Uncharted 2 for players that have already played the single player.

To me the coop bits of UC2 were the best bits of uncharted, so I have been in no hurry to pick it up.

Social coop games seem to have more market appeal imo

It's retail only, but Steam is very overpriced here (more than PSN and Xbox marketplace!), so it may lead to higher PC retail sales. You don't even need a disc drive because all PC copies come with a Steam key (or Origin or Uplay). Also the chart has no platform split, it's all platforms together for each game.

Key resellers are the real biggest threat to PC retail right now.

Far Cry 4 is at Watch_Dogs level in Germany... Wow, that's very good.

Pretty happy about Splatoon :) should be nearly 120k in Germany with digital. Good BloodBorne too.

oops ;)

Splatoon will probably pass 120k quickly anyway though

He specifically pointed to Splatoon and Bloodborne as including digital, the part about some of the others also including digital was for the PS4 list.

Hey, maybe, just maybe, Moonstone was wrong at pointing to Splatoon as a title with digital sales included, and he'll edit that detail in the next few hours. Don't exclude any possibility, man!
