partition magic or a new HDD?

I'm getting annoyed with my backups. My PC came preconfigured with only one 200GB partition on the HDD, so my drive images are getting too big to be practically backed up to a few DVDs or my network HDD.

So I want to move my music, videos, applications, games etc to another partition/HDD.

I have about 150GB free on my current HDD, so I was thinking of splitting it into two partitions, then uninstalling and reinstalling my apps/games, so that my boot partition is much smaller, less changeable and easier to backup.

Anyone got any experience with partition magic or similar? Or should I just go out and get another HDD?

If you're actually buying Partition Magic, compare that to the cost of just buying another drive.

bloody hell!

(both prices from Dabs.com)
Partition magic - £45
80GB SATA150 HDD - £40

Thats nuts. I just assumed a HDD would be more expensive and I was just wondering if partition magic was reliable.

So now I'll buy a new HDD, and just leave a shitload of the 200GB empty. Oh well

The plus is that I can also use the new HDD as another place to drop a backup. So now I can have my backups on DVD, NAS, and the other HDD. No backups to my ipod yet :)

Yeah, that's kinda what I figured you'd find. Drives are just ludicrously cheap now so it almost makes no sense to partition them :)
