Drudge: FOX NEWS has confirmed that actor Mel Gibson has been arrested in Los Angeles County for DUI... Bail was set at $5,000. He was pulled over on the Pacific Coast Highway and a Breathalyzer test was administered. The arrest report lists the time of arrest as 2:36AM and the time booked as 4:06AM... DEVELOPING...

Mel Gibson arrested for DUI

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Oscar-winning actor and director Mel Gibson was arrested Friday in Malibu, California, and charged with driving under the influence, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office.

Gibson, 50, was pulled over early Friday while driving on the Pacific Coast Highway, said sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore. Officers on patrol reported Gibson was driving at an "excessively fast speed," he said.

He was charged with a misdemeanor and posted $5,000 bond, Whitmore said.

Gibson was not immediately available for comment.

Gibson, who acted in the "Lethal Weapon" movie series, won an Oscar for directing 1995's Oscar-winning best picture "Braveheart."

He reportedly financed the controversial movie "The Passion of the Christ" (2004), which he also directed, with $25 million of his own money. The film made $370 million at the domestic box office and currently ranks No. 10 on the all-time box office list. "Passion of the Christ" was nominated for three Oscars, but won none.

Gibson's latest movie, "Apocalypto," set in the Mayan civilization of several centuries ago, is due in December.

I used to like this guy but then he did some jesus movie. Well i'm sure in the eyes of catholics its better than being a priest who is a pedo. I say let the guy have fun you only live once, and in my book you only live once so why waste your time on something that could exist and isn't proven to exist. I'm sceptical but in the end if there is a god he will let me into heaven just for asking for forgiveness....so says the bible. So really what is the point of caring? something to do? a hobby?
 
After The Passion came out, I wrote a paper for English class about the shady financial dealings behind the film and Mel Gibson's less than holy personal life. I got an A+ but my professor said if the other students read it they might have a heart attack (I live in the midwest).

Anyway, Gibson is known to play up the religious stuff for publicity. In real life, he tells disgusting and graphic dirty jokes, drinks and swears like a sailor, etc etc etc.

Which is why, in spite of his rampant hypocrisy, I love that fukker. He just seems like a cool dude all around. Hell I bet even Bill O'Reilly, if you went a kicked it with him at a bar, would probably be a pretty cool dude, telling vibrator jokes etc. If they'd just abandon their faux moral high ground, I wouldn't have a bone to pick with either of them..

I have never heard of him trying to act all holy. He just says he's catholic. He did a religious movie because he wanted to. He is doing another one, which has nothing to do with Christianity. The man is just a cool dude. We forget he is the same guy from Payback and Leathal Weapon. Even What Women Want! You are talking shit out of your ass. I have met the man a few times, and he is super cool, down to earth, regular guy. He's a guy you'd meet ay a bar, not a hollywood celeb. He has never said to be anything else, you percieve it because he is a genius for doing that movie, not a priest.
