Genre: Open world survival-horror RPG (or something like that)
Platforms: PC, PS5 and Xbox

Synopsis:

Bachelor Daniil Dankovsky is a young doctor from the capital. His search for the secret of immortality brings him to a remote town, gripped by a mysterious plague that will destroy it in 12 days. Now it's up to him to explore the town itself, its past, present, and future — to find answers to his numerous questions and try to stop the relentless epidemic.

(At least… that's what he thinks this story is about. What it's supposed to be about. What it's always been about.)

You are a real doctor. Your tools are knowledge and science. Examine patients and diagnose diseases. Cross-check symptoms and prescribe treatments. Enforce your rules: impose quarantines, confiscate medicine, vaccinate the population, deploy patrols, and impose curfews. See how your choices change the town, even if it means being hated along the way.

You have only 12 days to stop the lethal plague. But in your hands lies the most valuable resource—time. Travel into the future to witness the worst outcomes. Correct mistakes in the past to change them. Bend the fates of people around you to save or condemn you—in search of answers.

(How is it possible? What *is* time?)

Delve into the darkest corners of the Town-on-Gorkhon to fight the disease. Face the Plague head-on. Cleanse the infected streets. Burn what can no longer be saved. What was lost in the fire will be found in the ashes.

Dankovsky is a sharp mind in search of the truth, willing to do anything to find it. Anything you see can tell a story and become a piece of your mental map of the world. Explore the town for new insights, notice details, and connect the dots. Uncover the secrets of the town's inhabitants. Shape their stories, decide their fates, and talk to their shadows.

Pre-release Q&A:
Hi, friends.

We're in the final stretch — Pathologic 3 launches on January 9.
Ahead of release, we've put together a small FAQ: date and time, price and discounts, bundles, backer keys, languages, and a few other questions.

When is the release?
January 9 17:00 CET / 11:00 ET / 08:00 PT.

Will there be pre-orders or preloading?
No — the game will only be available to purchase after release.

Is it the full version right away?
Yes, no Early Access! You'll be able to play through the entire story from start to finish. Or from finish to start. Or from start to start.

Will there be a launch discount?
Yes — there will be a whopping 20% launch discount!

You'll see the price at release — it differs by region, and we don't want to confuse anyone. The base price will be the same as Pathologic 2; regional pricing may vary, but there shouldn't be any big surprises.

Will Pathologic 2 owners be able to get it cheaper?
Yes. At launch, Pathologic 3 will be available in a bundle with Pathologic 2 with an additional 15% discount. That means Pathologic 2 owners can apply the bundle discount to their purchase and get an extra discount on top of the regular launch discount. So many discounts — all for you!

Will there be a Deluxe edition or Supporter Pack?
Yes — we've made a special version of the game for those who want to support us. It includes the soundtrack and a bit of cosmetic in-game content. Please don't treat it like a DLC or something you need. We made it as a way for those who want to thank us — and admire a little extra beauty. It doesn't affect gameplay balance or the story.

We'll share the details tomorrow!

I'm a Kickstarter backer — I'm supposed to get the game for free. How do I get my key?
Everyone who supported the studio on Kickstarter or "Threads" and received a Pathologic 2 key will also receive a free Pathologic 3 key. We'll email the keys to the addresses listed on those platforms. If you no longer have access to that email, or if something else goes wrong and you don't receive your key, please email us at support@ice-pick.com after the game's release.

Backers whose reward included a special room in the Polyhedron will receive, in addition to the standard key, a key for a special backer DLC. After you activate it, an entrance will open… somewhere. Just to be safe: it's only accessible near the end of the game, and you can install the DLC mid-playthrough — it won't break your save.

Will Steam Deck be supported? What status will it have (Verified/Playable/Unknown)?
We can't yet confirm full support and optimization at launch, but as soon as we're confident the game runs properly, you'll see the appropriate label on the store page.

How big is the game?
43 GB.

What languages will be available at launch?
Originally, we planned more localizations, but the game grew quickly, and it became clear it would be very hard to maintain translation quality across the board. So at launch, the game will have full English and Russian localization. Later, we hope to add the rest — work on them has already begun.

Estimated playtime?
30–60 hours, depending on your playstyle.

Steam Cloud support? Controller support? Steam achievements?
Yes! Yes! Yes!

Are demo saves compatible with the release version?
No!

I would love to play this, really but I can't stand timers in videogames. I play to relax not to be stressed. That being said I will keep an eye on impressions because the game certainly looks interesting

Pathologic 2 is still the most genuinely oppressive game I've ever played. And it does that effortlessly without any horror tropes.

I would call it a generation defining game, but even that would do it disservice as it defies any typical conventions.

Hopefully this one reaches its peaks, while ironing some of the lesser qualities of its predecessor.

I've lost count of how many times I've almost bought Pathological 2 on a steam sale. It looks very intriguing, but there's just something about it that makes me hesitate.

Will keep an eye on the reception for this one to see if it ends up being something I'd enjoy.

I heard a lot about the sequel and so I got that. It's got some charm to it. I definitely got more into that than a Plague Tale, but that's me. Haven't finished it but it was cool. Reminded me of Dishonored engine without all the fine tuning. I had no idea this was coming out.

You know, I never thought about it but it really always has reminded me of dishonored.

I've read a lot about P2 and I love finding a cool niche game but the timer, or whatever, has always turned me off hard. I also can't seem to get a handle on what moment to moment gameplay is? I have watched the trailers here.

Will probably be 2026 GOTY. When does it release on ps5 ?

Strangely, it appears to be available now:

While previously it was still set to TBA, leading to a lot of people (me included) to speculate that the console release will be delayed. Strangely enough, there are basically almost no reviews, even though the game is technically out already. The marketing of this game has been... quite something.

Anyway, will update the OT accordingly.

The moment to moment gameplay of p2 is mostly scavenging and trading, while moving in between story segments. It's kind of like an extremely oppressive walking sim.

Much of the gameplay is actually strategic. Maximizing barter economy, planning travel routes and resource allocation in regards to who you can save or provide preventative treatment to.

Steam version is $23.79 if you own Pathologic 2.
I'm not seeing a discount for owning P2. There's an introductory offer and a "complete your collection" bundle with Darkwood which I do own so it's a bit cheaper again.

Edit - Ok it does show on the store page but there's a tiny "See all 11 bundles." link down the bottom.

i never played this franchise, is this game good? i like puzzle and mystery games.

i know there is a timer or some sort, what happens when the timer ends? you restart the whole game again from scratch or something?

What is the replay value on this?

I'm talking about P2 instead of 3, the way they are handling 3 seems to somewhat negate/change the way the timer works.

It does mystery extremely well. Better than most things I have read/played, though it takes an almost anthropological route of mystery.

The replay value is very high, because of the timer. It is EXTREMELY difficult to do everything within the allotted time. You have various choices you have to make involving other people's well being and your own well being, and limited resources with which you can make those choices. Time is the most scarce resource of them all. If you die, you come back to life with a permanent penalty to one of your stats.

The timer doesn't end the game. When a day ends, the next day begins and anything you hadn't taken care of in the previous day is in the past. For example, you hear someone is being attacked. If you don't manage to make it to them and help them by the end of the day because you were too busy either trying to find food and water or trying to help out with the plague that is ravaging the town, they die. Because you didn't go and help them. Theoretically, you can beat the game by sleeping through the entire game until all the days have passed, though you miss almost the entirety of the story.

There is only one truly wrong choice you can make, and while the game doesn't directly say it is the wrong choice, it hints pretty hard.

Almost any playthrough that you go through, a portion of the cast will die. You wont be able to see everyone's storylines through to the end. That's where the replay value comes in. Pathologic 2 is oppressive

End of P2 talk.

Pathologic 3 seems to be taking a weird time manipulation gameplay mechanic into play, so instead of just running out of time, you deal with a butterfly effect shit show. I've only played the demo, so I am just going off of demo mechanics and trailer info.

Pathologic 2 can be seen as a very hardcore immersive sim which combines stellar and deep writing with very crual resource management and strategic play. It's exceptional

I've played about 2 hours of it. I really like how they have handled the systems, making them fresh.

Still feels oppressive, but in a different way. Im actually VERY afraid of a game over.

They managed to keep it very mysterious, even for someone who played through and knows most of the story beats of P2 (Never played the original)

I did, however, run into one of those day 1 slavjank bugs which led to me ctrl+alt+del closing the game and reopening it. Second time around I didnt have that problem. I, erm, wasnt able to draw my gun despite pushing the right button for it etc.

Combat is interesting... The game is set up in such a way that you aren't going to be able to run around killing people and harvesting their blood all night long when you dont have anything better to do.

It starts almost inviting. With these little buggers messing around your stuff.

Then it just turns everything on its head with the time loop stuff.

a game like this will never win GOTY its too complicated for most people
The moment when I saw critics bashing P2 for its "you can't do everything and will inevitably fail with some of your tasks" design approach, I knew I can no longer trust game journos.

Still a prime candidate for the"the best game of the 2010s barely anyone played" award.
