Female lead?

And the film's likely title:

EDIT: From Indiewire,
Earlier this year, rumors began swirling that Paul Thomas Anderson and Daniel Day-Lewis were eyeing their first collaboration since 2007's ”There Will Be Blood," and now the project is official as Focus Features has won a tense bidding war for worldwide distribution rights. Deadline reports the company was in battle with Fox Searchlight for rights to the drama, which Anderson is looking to make on a $35 million budget. The picture, which is set in the 1950s London fashion scene, will go into production early next year. Focus is targeting a late 2017 release date.

The untitled project will bring Daniel Day-Lewis back to the big screen for the first time since ”Lincoln" in 2012. He won the Best Actor Oscar for the role, his third after ”My Left Foot" and ”Blood." Further plot details are being kept under wraps for now, as is the acquisition price, though Deadline says it dwarfs the $17.5 million Searchlight paid for Nate Parker's ”The Birth Of A Nation" and even the $20 million they paid for Tom Ford's ”Nocturnal Animals."

EDIT 2: HERE'S JONNY!

EDIT 3: Set for a Christmas 2017 release.

Subject matter sounds so boring but pretty hyped for the PTA/DDL reunion

Actually it could be great if he goes for a boogie nights vibe for it

Woo! Honestly I think There Will Be Blood may be my favorite film ever. Need to do a rewatch soon. Inherent Vice was pretty damn good.

PTA's first movie had John C Reilly? Gotta check that out. Only PTA movie I haven't seen.

first time ive DDL looking like plain ol DDL in a movie. TWBB is the best movie I have ever seen and The Master one of the best so im on board obvi

Too many directors named Anderson, I always never think of the correct guy the first time.

Guess Daniel Day Lewis feels like having another Oscar.

Seriously though, glad to see him back.

Keep in mind, this was targeting a late 2017 release when it was sold, so if we're lucky we can catch it this December and if we aren't, it'll be a Holiday 2018 film for sure.

There's an interesting rumor going around that PTA is going to be acting as his own cinematographer, as Robert Elswit is currently busy on other projects. That doesn't happen very often, though Anderson would certainly be one of those directors that could probably pull it off.

I don't see why it wouldn't hit late 2017 unless there's like a CG dragon or something. not sure how this works

Paul Thomas Anderson has a notoriously labored post-production. Call it a perfectionst thing, but his films sit in the editing room being composed for a long, long time. The Master finished shooting in mid-2011, wasnt until late 2012 when it was ready. He started shooting Inherent Vice in May 2013, stopped principal photography in August 2013, and kept tinkering with it/shooting more footage until its release in late 2014.

So honestly I dont expect to see this movie this year.

It's gotta be better than Inherent Vice right?
It's gotta be.

I understand he's an auteur among auteurs but I never rewatch The Master or Vice as opposed to burning out two or three copies of Boogie Nights and There Will Be Blood.

And of course, even those two were better than most in the years they released.

PT is like a top 3 director for me. But Inherent Vice was the only movie I ever walked out of. I'll give him another chance otherwise he can join Michael Mann in detention.

Sounds like it's just the setting.

I mean his other films have pretty much been... Set in post War America, America before the Oil Boom, Modern Day America, and America in the 70s porn scene.

Only one of those sounds exciting.
