Paypal and eBay Woes

This past summer, Paypal has separated from eBay and is now a separate company.

Ever since that change, it has been a somewhat of a hassle buying from eBay while using Paypal. I have security measures set up on my Paypal account (6 digit key card as well as text messaging) that have to be entered before anything can be ordered with Paypal. I had these set in place after getting hacked twice in the past ten years. Ever since the security measures, never been hacked yet. Fingers crossed!

Anyways, since the split of eBay and Paypal, I can not buy anything from eBay with Paypal with the security measures in place.

When I checkout on eBay with my item, I choose Paypal as the payment, and then a login window pops up for Paypal. I entered my information, and when I press enter, the system just hangs at "Logging In". After about 4-5 minutes, it returns to the login screen. I went ahead and disabled my Paypal security measures, and retired logging in, and it worked. My payment was complete.

(I went ahead and enabled security after the payment.)

Has anyone experienced similar issues? It was annoying at first not knowing why I wasn't logging in, and then realizing it was the security measures. I don't want to disable them during payment, but that is how it's working.

Did you try a different web browser or device? I had a similar issue where the paypal login would hang but I realized I could add my credit card directly to ebay so I did that instead.

Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. Even on my iPhone :(

What I find annoying is the last time I didn't get it to work, I used a different credit card. Payment was sent.

However, when I tried to use the credit card again, it said it is tied to a Paypal account. I have no clue what account because when I log into my account, it's not a payment option. It's like a rogue credit card on Paypal right now.

Did you click on the pop-out window icon on the bottom right? Doing that takes you to The paypal website and you can log in there. After that it takes you back to the ebay checkout page.

I've sold over 1,500 things on ebay, but this is my first big disappointment. ebay is fine 99% of the time, but their fuckups can really snowball out of proportion. The buyer favortism is ridiculous. And splitting with PayPal causes more internal hassle.

Last month a buyer opened a return request, complaining the item was smaller than the photo made it look. I said, "It's a stock photo of the item alone, with nothing to compare its scale to."

6 days later, the buyer escalated the dispute into ebay's hands.

5 days later, ebay idiotically gave the buyer the win and took everything I had in the PayPal account, $5 shy of the purchase value.

Phone call resulted in an immediate reversal and admittance of stupidity- "Yeah that should have been classified as buyer's remorse, sorry."

5 days later, no reimbursement. "It's an automated system, you just need to pay the $5 balance so the system can move forward." I pay the balance.

Today, 6 days later, still no refund. They say it's in PayPal's court, a separate entity, so they can't speed it up on ebay's end. So I have to wait til October 10th.

Ugh that's horrible. They suck for the buyer too though.

I just bought a very expensive camera on ebay, or at least I should have. But they randomly held my money for a random inquiry. No reason given, no estimated time, all emails return automated form responses that don't have anything to do with what I'm asking about. The seller doesn't know what's going on either, Ebay asked them to send our emails back and forth to them, of which there were two where I asked if it were possible to get the item ASAP because I bought it specifically for a shoot this weekend. Not only will that not be happening, I don't even have my money available to me to go buy it elsewhere. Instead of getting something expedited, I've had my money held hostage. I don't get it, if they think something is wrong, give me the chance to just cancel it at least. Not everyone can afford to just have 2k disappear and have nothing to show for it for an indefinite amount of time.

Will definitely be avoiding paypal as much as humanly possible. it's insane to me that in this day and age a company with this horrible amount of service still exists. *sigh*

I just got a case opened against me that claims the buyer did not receive their item....it's been 165 days. I shipped the item 2 day priority and I remember the item being delivered. Wouldn't you question why you haven't received the item like, 2 weeks later? This is some BS. USPS removes all tracking data 3 months after delivery, so I can't rely on them for proof even if I have the tracking number. PayPal just takes the money and "investigates."

Yeah that's bullshit. It's weird what some people can pull. I had a soundbar crap out on me after 31 days, literally 1 day after the included warranty and ebay said suck it. Some people know how to gain the system I guess.

As for my previously mentioned problem with paypal holding my money: the seller emailed me, said she called them and said THEY WERE WAITING FOR ME TO CALL THEM?!?! No indication that they needed ANYTHING from me. So I called and it was resolved in like 2 minutes. They claimed they tried contacting me, and I double checked, no vm, no missed calls, no emails. Idk if they just opened their window and lightly spoke my name a few times and called it quits, or what, but I didn't get anything. I didn't have to verify anything or give any information they were just like, "is this you?" and I went "yup", and it went through.

What a splendid security system, I really feel so safe and convenienced after this whole ordeal. :|
