So I bought me a laptop with an AMD 3000+ 64 bit etc etc that is supposed to run at 1.8ghz but even with ac power it only runs at a maximum of 794mhz, according to windows xp. Is it something I should be worried about?

yah what fart said, for exampe download CPU-ID and look at your idle speed.. should be what you saw 794mhz, then grab a window and move it wildly around the screen, the value should rise to correct spec, power on demand

Ffrom my experience, it's better to use the catalyst drivers. With the Dell drivers, I could not run certain games, like Dark Age of Camolet and City of Heroes, but by modify the catalyst drivers, the games runs just fine on Dell 8500 Inspiron with ATI 9000 mobile. Follow the instructions below to modify the drivers.

In windows XP have you tried right clicking your power adapter icon, and picking "always on" ?

it forces my centrino board to run full speed at all times here.
