I've just plugged a new HD into my PC - an 80GB WD HD set to Slave (with a Seagate Barracuda 80GB HD set to Master).

WinXP will detect the WD HD in my device manager, but it doesn't show up in My Computer.

What have I missed?

Partitioning & formatting.

Go to administrative tools (under ctrl panel, perhaps), computer management, disk management. (This is Win2K; might be different with XP).

Format the drive in Disk Management.

Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management
