Just watched it, and boy is this movie really uneven. The parts at the beginning and end where it's actually trying to tell a story are a bit slow and uninteresting, but the random unconnected vignettes in the middle where Pee-Wee meets all these crazy characters are fun and have some great gags. Overall, not even close to touching Big Adventure, but worth a watch if you like the character.

Pretty much exactly my thoughts.

How des he still look basically the same as in 1985?

What manner of sorcery be this!?

Gonna watch this after dinner tonight.

CGI. Lots of CGI

That seems like an exaggeration. He's done a ton of interviews lately out of character to promote the film and he looks great for 62.

I saw him a few years ago in LA when he did his first set of shows and he looked great for his age even then in person.

As for the film, it went by super quick. The pacing was great, the characters were very much in line with the characters typically in Pee-wee films and the show and the only fault I would give it is that it was too short. At just under an hour and a half it was a great throwback and a great film.

Hopefully we get our dream team for the adult Pee-wee film and get Paul, Tim Burton and Judd Apatow all together on the next project.

Is the whole "Pee-wee has never left town" thing supposed to be an in-joke about Big Adventure not having existed or something?

I was seriously confused about that too.

All in all, the movie was... a little uneven. At times, it definitely felt "TV movie", which... I guess it was. The movie could have used a little more baking in the editing room, and some slightly more dynamic cinematography to keep the energy up.

But man. basically everything with Joe was amazing.

Also... my wife totally wanted to kill me during his scream.

His films have always been stand-alone with no continuity. Each takes place in its own reality with Pee-wee (and the generic happy characters) being the only constant.

I'm only 10 minutes in and I already love it.

Someone please tell me there's an official picture of The Renegades online??

Not a particular fan of pee-wee but thought I'd give it a go since it's in 4k, and I ended up liking it. It's fun, has character. Joe Manganiello did a good job here.

Better than Big Top Pee Wee but not close to Big Adventure. Overall I liked it and am glad there's another solid source of Pee Wee weirdness.

As someone born in the 90s, I still can't figure Pee-wee Herman out. Is it a kids show or is it making fun of kids shows? Why are adults into this creepy looking guy?

I was born in the 90's and I love Pee Wee. Big Adventure is a classic. I hope the new Netflix special is good. I'll probably watch it soon.

I also felt like the movie was pretty uneven, but when it was funny, it was really funny.
I'm still laughing at the girly shriek continuing throughout the bus trip.

I thought it was great. It wasn't as good as the original, sure, but better than you'd probably expect a sequel to a 31 year old comedy to be. It was a lot better than Dumb & Dumber To and the new Zoolander by a significant margin.

I watched it twice. Much better the second time around.

Loved, loved loved the weird opening. Dream sequences reminded me of Lynch dream sequences.

Over all it isn't as great as Big Adventure but its still a pretty decent pee-wee movie. It hits pretty much all the proper marks.

Not as great as Big Adventure, which seems to be the consensus, but it's still quite good and feels like genuine Pee-wee.

Joe: "Let's say chocolate..."
Pee-wee: "Okay. 1, 2, 3"
Both: "Chocolate"

And nearly confirmed bisexual Pee-wee is rad. And not!Simone!

I felt like the movie was great for newcomers and old fans alike and still maintained its child/adult demographic split very well.

Watched this a few days ago and it turned out a whole hell of a lot better than I thought it would. Not quite up there with Big Adventure, but way better than Big Top. Needed a bigger budget, though.

Hope we get another one.

I watched this last night and thought it was pretty bad. I consider Pee-Wee's Big Adventure to be a classic, but this one retained none of that film's quirkiness, humor, or charm. There were a couple of good gags - the first time he lets out that shrill scream at the snake farm (it wasn't funny the other dozen or so times so he subsequently did it) and the Amish balloon joke that went on forever - but most of the jokes seemed strained and uninspired.

I'm not too disappointed since I'm not a huge Pee-Wee fan, and I didn't really follow the storied production of Big Holiday, but I feel like this could (and should!) have been so much better.

Yeah, lines up with my thoughts

I thought it was pretty solid. Didn't quite match the quality of the first film but that was already such a high bar. Plenty of good gags, the character felt right. I think the biggest difference between this and Big Adventure was the supporting cast felt pretty tangential here (with the exception of Joe) while the characters in PWBA were far more quirky and memorable. This movie didn't really have a character on the same level of Francis, Simone, Large Marge, the rude child star actor played by Wayne from The Wonder Years etc. They were there more to just give attention to Pee-wee's antics.

But the loss of Burton, Elfman and especially Hartman meant living up to the first film was basically impossible, and it's pretty good in its own right. If the first movie was a 10 I'd probably give this an 8.

Man I was really hoping that at the end
when they were in the treehouse, Joe would've been beamed up by aliens just like in Pee-Wee's dream.
Would've been a great way to end a not great (but entertaining) movie.

It was ok, not bad, not great....it lacked heart.
The homo-erotic bromance of Joe and Pee-Wee lol.
Worth a watch for Pee -Wee fans.

I really liked it for a lot of reasons: the Bromance, the road trip, notSimone, Maebe...

I do feel like the soundtrack was missing Danny Elfman's bounciness, though Mark Mothersbaugh did an OK job. It probably would have been better with Tim Burton at the helm, but I get why that wasn't possible.

I'd be happy with one of these every couple of years if they wanted to, as long as it was at least this quality.

For a Netflix TV film, it was pretty dang good. Better than Big Top Pee-Wee, but not reaching the heights of Big Adventure.
