Penny Arcade on EA and Xbox360 screenshots

That may be so, but that does not make it technically more impressive.

I mean, this almost looks like a real face...

That looks great. I don't care about technically impressive I just care about the final output.

Except that's just a texture and looks unrealistic in motion due to the lighting not properly reflecting off the face.

Next-gen can wait a while if you ask me.

I agree. X360 is looking like this gen's Dreamcast so far, though I'm sure it will sell better. Apologies to Dreamcast crazies, I'm only referring to the power level of a system launched much earlier than its competitors. Soon you can make fun of Revolution for its power level even after launching later than its competitors.

How can you make such a statement if we have yet to see what the others really can do? Just wondering. Heck we have yet to see what the 360 can really do.

Well, the DC looked weak next to 3 consoles. According to what you're saying, the X360 will only look weak next to one. Sounds like the PS2 to me, not the Dreamcast.

*looks at calendar* They sure are taking their sweet ass time showing what 360 'can really do'...

Like I've said in the past, I just hope they give Moss his Playoff '05 afro with complete texturing. :D

It really does look like ass compared to the CG hype trailer. The Xbox 360 however shouldn't be judged on EA's shitty efforts. I'm not sure why people do that...well actually I am. I sense even more tears when Madden 07 on PS3, Xbox 360 & Rev looks equally crappy. Welcome to the next 10 years :lol

I don't see how people can go crazy over those Ghost Recon shots, then act as though this Madden crap is somehow the fault of Xbox 360 hardware.

Thats what happens when you generalize a bunch of seperate opinions to suit your own strawmen. All sorts of crazy contradictions pop up, its zany!

The Ghost Recon stuff looks awesome...but it still isn't even remotely as detailed as the original Madden teaser trailer.

We've been down this road before. When the first renders came out, people wanted to believe and no amount of skepticism would change that. And right now, they still want to believe.

Toy Story forever!

lookit the brightside, at least we didn't go from this:

Screenshots marketing is really getting batshit insane since a couple of years.
I hope the message from Penny Arcade can have some effect. There's a limit in fooling people. Fuck higher-res devkits doctored reply shots.

I hope that's true too. You know, maybe the "bullshot" joke is a good thing, give this practice an actual name so maybe they'll lay off ... probably not though. I can't wait till we see the real Killzone 2... :(

Word is Killzone 2 might be for PS2, PS3 gets Killzone 3.

I always hear this, but I guess I need somebody to show me.

Show me firstgen PS2 games that look better than firstgen DC games.

I'm not saying that the DC is more powerful than the PS2, FYI. But during its very short life, how did it look worse? Comparing third and fourth generation PS2 games to the DC is not a fair comparison.

First gen PS2 games did have their fair share of problems, but you could see the potential. PS2 games generally displayed much more geometry with a whole host of effects that the DC was never able to handle. Before the PS2 was even a year old in Japan, Metal Gear Solid 2 (the demo) was playable in our homes. ZOE, The Bouncer, Tekken Tag, and a host of others all demonstrated some of its strengths. That's when I started to become interested in the hardware, really. A lot of the things it was doing were things I had really been wanting to see and was very impressed.

DC took the old PC approach of great image quality and good textures. Pardon this bizarre comparison, but DC was kinda like Duke Nukem 3D. It took the methods common to 3D games at the time and displayed them at their best. It was rooted in the past.

PS2 was kinda like Quake. Started off a bit rough, but represented a new direction for 3D rendering by introducing a lot of new things. XBOX and GC were kinda like the Quake 2 engine, then, as they took all of those ideas and did more with them while also introducing a few new kinks (colored lighting == pixel shaders). :P

Fuck higher-res devkits doctored reply shots.
This only applies to the current gen, though. Next-gen shots are all going to be high-res because they DO run at those resolutions.
