Wednesday night I had the privilege of seeing Sergio Leone's masterpiece Once Upon a Time in the West on the big screen. Arclight hosted a special presentation of the film and they got a beautiful print from Paramount. As beautiful as it is on dvd, seeing OUATITW in the theater was a legendary experience for a film geek.

Since GAF is full of fellow cinema buffs, I wanted to start a thread to discuss the greatness of Harmonica and all other things relating to the movie. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is another masterpiece, but for me Leone's best film is OUATITW.

Both brilliant movies and among the few I could watch over and over without getting bored, but I'd take Good Bad Ugly over Once Upon a Time. With the latter Leone seemed to be trying a little too hard for those shots and camera angles to make the critics go "ooh!", and just meandered a bit too much. Although, the opening scene in the train station is one of the greatest scenes in movie history. Both amazing, I just like GBU a little more.

I believe this news. A lot of people don't give OUATITW enough credit cause of the lack of Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef, but its a great movie.

Yeah, I loved this movie. When I first saw it, I thought the scene where Jill McBain gets off the train and the music starts was the one of the best viewing experience I had seen. The soundtrack is just beautiful.
