Perfectly Portrayals

Samuel l Jackson pulp fiction

Nathan Fillion was the glue that held Firefly together. He perfectly played the Captain role. Hit the comedy marks, hit the dramatic/sentimental marks. He had so much charisma in that role.

This isn't even nostalgia talking, I just watched the show for the first time a few months ago. What a waste that it was cancelled, I liked almost the entire cast except Summer Glau's character.

Robert Carlyle as Begbie in Trainspotting - one of the great screen psychopaths. He's a complete physical mismatch for the character in the books, who is a giant bodybuilder type, but Carlyle is so perfect in the role that it's impossible to read the books afterwards without picturing him.

Casting Russell Crowe as Captain Jack Aubrey in Master and Commander was pretty perfect.

Mia Goth is basically amazing in everything but I really like Emma and she plays Harriet Smith so naturally in that :]

Not quite the same but I remember the first time I watched Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet I was blown away. I didn't think it was possible to make those Shakespeare lines sound natural, but they did, and they brought out the meaning through their performances in a way that imade me see Shakespeare in a new light.

Truth.

I always find it strange how people rate Brosnan so low on the best Bond lists.

He nailed absolutely everything. The only issue was that he got one incredible first outing, and then three consecutive piles of shit.

Craig is actually my least favourite of the lot. Moore is terrible, but he's terrible in an entertaining way, and I enjoy the campiness of his Bond. Craig was just dull. He didn't bring anything that a thousand other actors at the time couldn't also do.

If you mean "portrayal" as in "actor who played in a movie/TV series a character from a book/other media", then:

- Richard Harris as Dumbledore in the first two Harry Potter
- Alan Rickman as Severus Snape
- Colin Firth as Mr Darcy in Pride & Prejudice
- Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man,
- Emma Thompson as Trelawyney in Harry Potter

This is the boring answer, but if I had to pick one James Bond, it'd be Sean Connery. I mean look at him

I am surprised no one has mentioned Antony Starr as Homelander yet. He embodies that psychopathic superhero vibe so perfectly that it is actually hard to watch him in anything else without feeling uneasy. Every tiny facial twitch and every stare is just pure terror. It is one of those rare cases where the actor took a comic book character and elevated it to a completely different level.

Tom Selleck as Indiana Jones, oh wait ..
Eric Stoltz in Back to the future.. no that's not right either.

Goddamit.

I don't think anyone will accept a replacement for Mark Hamil as Luke Skywalker or the Joker animated voice.

Hot take, but I think Tom Selleck would have been amazing as Indy.

Starr was great in Banshee as well, a real suprise from an New Zealand guy mostly known for comedy. But Banshee's casting director also did The Wire and it was at a time when auditions over Zoom became a thing and suddenly you could look all over the world for actors and not just North America.
Rewatching some of it after seeing The Boys was cool to see the pent up rage already, ready to come out.

One of my favourite unexpected performances was John Hannah on Spartacus. Again, someone known for mostly comic relief delivers an incredible performance that chews scenery like no one could. And despite Batiatus being a complete evil piece of shit you still root for him.

A recent portrayal that I thought was great, was Cillian Murphy as Oppenheimer.
He nailed it imo, and showed good range.
It wouldn't say it was perfect, but I can't imagine anyone else doing it better.

"Perfectly" is an adverb. It can't modify a noun.
I guess you could say I perfect screwed up.

Anthony Star has been carrying the show since the second season started. He's literally the only character I actually give a shit about. I know he's not the hero and I know how badly they've written his character these past few seasons, but it doesn't matter. Anthony Star's performance as Homelander is the only thing keeping the show afloat and they know it.
